C.H. Sommers' "Dangerous Speech"

If you are aware of what liberals are freaking out about recently, C.H. Sommers gave a speech which caused liberals to act as if she is an advocate of violence against women or something. "Safe Spaces" were established to help the poor souls deal with this wicked woman giving a speech. Some choice comments:

“Her talk is happening, so let’s pull together in the face of this violence and make our own space to support each other,” the students wrote in the piece, which was titled “In Response to Sommers’ Talk: A Love Letter to Ourselves” and had been signed by more than 150 students and campus groups as of noon on Friday. “It is valid and necessary to both create alternative spaces for healing and to directly challenge the violence that is happening,” it continued.

http://www.nationalreview.com/article/41...-katherine

Anyway, I had never heard anything this woman said before. I didn't know what to expect.

She is a feminist, her whole perspective is "I am a feminist, I am one of you, I want what's best for women, but isn't it just possible that women like being teachers more than software engineers?"

I thought she might say some actually provocative stuff but the worst of it was the shocking citing of studies that point to biological sex differences which are simply common knowledge to anyone who isn't completely brainwashed.

She notes that 85% of people support "equality between men and women" but less than 20% of people call themselves "feminists" and is saying that women as a whole would be better served if the feminist movement accepted conservative women in and did not try to silence dissent but accepted all women working together for the benefit of women.

Crazy that THIS is controversial. I was thinking she was going to say she wasn't a feminist.

Then this bro with a southern accent starts giving her this feminist screed man, this world is nuts...

RE: C.H. Sommers' "Dangerous Speech"
She is great and I recommend her book Who Stole Feminism?: How Women Have Betrayed Women about the rise of the gender feminists. She contrasts these marxist nut jobs with the earlier equity feminists, who just demanded equality of opportunity and not of outcome.

She is being attacked because she rejects all the bogus statistics, like the wage gap myth and the rape culture hysterics.

And like other feminists just claim to be, she seems genuinely concerned with the plight of boys and men. Her book The War Against Boys: How Misguided Policies Are Harming Our Young Men is another big reason feminists see her as a traitor.

She is definitely fair-minded and a female thinker I respect.

Pretty funny self-parody by Oberlin students serious about feeling unsafe:

A Love Letter To Ourselves Wrote:[The Oberlin College Republicans and Libertarians] failed to mention that she is a rape denialist. A rape denialist is someone who denies the prevalence of rape and denies known causes of it. Christina Hoff Sommers believes that rape occurs less often than statistics (those which actually leave out a plethora of unreported rapes) suggest. She also believes that false rape accusations are a rampant issue and that intoxication and coercion cannot rightly be considered barriers to consent. OCRL additionally failed to mention that she participates in violent movements such as GamerGate[...]

Quote:On April 13, Sommers tweeted: “The wage gap is a myth. So is ‘rape culture’ & claims of gender bias in science. But women’s grievance industry goes on.”

RE: C.H. Sommers' "Dangerous Speech"
Can we retitle this thread?

I think it would get more traction if we called it what it is: "Hysterical college feminists again demand 'safe space' due to...opposing viewpoint."

This continuous demand for safe spaces is troubling...and it should bother all of the young members of this board more than it bugs us veterans.

Soon you all will be working side-by-side with these "brilliant, strong" female Ivy League grads who cannot emotionally handle a mere difference of opinion. As annoying as Baby Boomers and Gen X-ers can be, our women weren't like this. And if they were deep down, they weren't indulged in it by the people who ran colleges.

Colleges are sending women out into the world when they can't handle someone saying something they don't like. This should end well.

As a gratuitous "FUCK YOU" to all such feminists, I'm posting a photo of the lovely Ms. Sommers. Born in 1950, she's now old enough to be the grandmother of these girls, yet still has a killer pair of legs and more sex appeal that most of the Millennial nut jobs who seek a "safe space" away from her mere words.

Yes, Millennial feminists, you just read that right. A male expressed sexual desire for a woman. I know that's a feminist sin. I already hear your shrieks from campus echoing throughout suburban Maryland. If Christine is reading, she'll probably get a kick out of this, since she has a really good sense of humor. Although on some level, it's more sad than funny.

They're also perverting the language, as George Orwell predicted, by writing things like: "She participates in violent movements such as GamerGate[...]"

Since there has been no actual violence regarding GamerGate, this is a total misuse of the word, and an attempt to expand its definition, much as they're doing with rape.

Claiming speech is "violent" is an attempt to get it banned and stigmatize the person who says something they disagree with. It's like calling things "hate" or "bigotry" when they're just statements. It's a form of language propaganda. It's a covert call for censorship.

This also lessens the impact of real violence. These people are muddled thinkers, but what's worse is that there is malice deep inside in their addled brains.

don't laugh. it's not funny.

this is a tactic sjws invariably use to "argue" their points and is equal parts invidious and insidious, namely: circular sophistry that takes on mystic infallibility of a paradigm (albeit a false one). or to use less babblespeak: "i'm an sjw, everything i say is politically correct, therefore everything i say must be true, and therefore everything that happens proves my original point."

take anita sarkeesian: "the less likely you think you will be influenced by there misogynist messages in games, the more likely you are to be influenced by them."

the anthropogenic climate change crowd: "it's warm in the winter, therefore man-made climate change; it's cold in the winter, therefore man-made climate change; there are way more hurricanes and that was caused by man-made climate change; there are way fewer hurricanes and that was caused by man-made climate chance" (indeed any weather pattern or trend at all in the last 20 years = man-made climate change - a true disservice to the people conducting actual data regarding the matter).

the feminists: "by denying that workplace oppression of women or the gender pay gap exists you reinforce and indeed contribute to these problems"

in other words, the sjws are right, everything they say is right, you are an idiot for disagreeing with them, so shut up they explained.

You can definitely see how Oberlin is responsible for Lena Dunham. Looks like there's a couple more of her in that video right there.

It is always striking to me how these SJWs are the exact embodiment of what they claim others are.

The "social conditioning" shtick is incredible because obviously their strange ideas are nothing but "socially conditioned" into them. The process by which they are socially conditioned is totally transparent, education and the media combines to do so for their whole lives and they buy it.

RE: C.H. Sommers' "Dangerous Speech"
What the hell is going on in our society when a bunch of college students are offended by a 65-year-old woman. Historically, this has always been the other way around.

Back in the '60s, legions of young kids were offending the hell out of the older generation. Now we've switched roles and have kids acting like uptight old grandmas. We have a society of 90-year-old 20-year-olds.

On top of that, what does it say that if you look at the above photo, the thin, leggy Christina Hoff Sommers is sexier than most of the out-of-shape, oddly-dressed college girls whose photos we post on here?

Pick one:

1). By helicopter-parenting and coddling our kids, we turned them in premature little old church ladies who cannot handle basic conflict.

2). Because college students are now predominantly women, the culture has become more like elementary school, where "mom values" (don't offend, be orderly and neat, etc.) take center stage instead of "dad values" (play hard, compete hard, take no prisoners, etc.).

3). Like a dysfunctional family that gets worse with each generation, college has gradually devolved into something that's essentially an unhealthy environment. But no one wants to speak up for fear of getting punished.

4). All of the above.

5). The Internet.
The internet allows everyone to voice how their Victorian sensibilities have been victimized, and the pile up of "injuries" avalanches upon the "violent offender". If they said these things in a room of people from their residential community, they would be ostracized as the weird tattle tale. The internet rewards them, and punishes their "attacker". Where in real world, they get rightfully ignored.

Your post and the one below it are groping at something Sargon of Akkad has coined as Sargon's Law: Anything an SJW claims about another person is in fact true about that particular SJW.

Projection is foundational to the psychological profile of the SJW.

Why this is, I can't say for certain. Perhaps because like the Puritans they mirror, they are constantly thinking the thoughtcrime that they accuse others of taking part in. This is why they are so hyper aware of it in others. You have to be of a perverted mind to see perversion in everything.

indeed they are. some choice ones for those who don't want to go hunting for them:

1. "Holy Fuck. You can ALWAYS tell who they are. THEY ALL DRESS AND TALK THE EXACT FUCKING SAME"

2. "Ad: 'Muslim and single?' Related video: Hillary Clinton's Chipotle Order. It's like they know what's going on."

3. "Right now I'm a liberal who's vehemently agreeing with the opinion of a conservative blog. WHAT A WORLD WE LIVE IN" [in response to several critical posts about the "views" (i.e. sjw recycled talking points) espoused in the video]

4. "To be clear, those are biological females, right?"

5. "Memo to HR department. Under no circumstances consider female graduates from Oberlin for a job interview." [i would have thought lena dunham's existence would have made this statement axiomatic]

6. "Special snowflake senses, tingling." [is that one from an rvf'er?]

7. "'And we will be gatekeeping so if we feel you are a toxic, dangerous and/or violent person, we're not going to allow you inside the event' lmao how can feminists think people should take them seriously when they're scared of their own fucking shadows?"

8. "you know you're a brave strong movement when you need a fucking shelter to stop people from hearing someone express their opinion. How are you fucking idiots going to survive when you leave your hug boxes and echo chambers and are thrust into the world where everything doesn't go your own way?"

9. So you won't be allowing yourselves into your own even then because you two look like some toxic motherfuckers if you ask me.

Hahaha. I was looking at the Oberlin paper and saw this and thought it was funny Smile

http://oberlinreview.org/7109/news/7109/

Basically these students are so weak and traumatized by watching news stories about the recent spate of black men being killed by cops that they are protesting and demanding that the university suspend giving failing grades to anyone during finals with the lowest grade possible being a C.

These idiots really can't handle the world as it is. They talk about breaking down from simply watching CNN.

Women these days think they can shop for a man like they shop for a purse or a pair of shoes. Sorry ladies. It doesn't work that way.

Women are like sandwiches. All men love sandwiches. That's a given. But sandwiches are only good when they're fresh. Nobody wants a day old sandwich. The bread is all soggy and the meat is spoiled.

Georgetown demands edits to Christina Hoff Sommers video
Trigger Warnings apparently not enough, after some students complain they are on the video.

http://legalinsurrection.com/2015/04/geo...ers-video/

Quote:[I]t stretches credulity that Georgetown and its students would not understand that the lecture was a public event. The video camera was in plain view, and audience members themselves appear to be taking video and photos. It could not shock any student that he or she was on camera.
In addition, the mission of the protestors at the event was clearly to gain attention. Perhaps we are receiving this request because the students were too successful at gaining attention, and are now embarrassed at the reaction to signs like “Trigger Warning – antifeminist.”

I can certainly understand why Georgetown would want us to edit the video. Clearly, it is a public relations nightmare for the University.

The feminist students’ childish behavior toward Dr. Sommers is receiving deserved criticism beyond the Georgetown bubble.
[…]
Georgetown doesn’t seem to understand is that once a video is uploaded to YouTube, it can’t be edited retroactively. We would have no choice but to take down the video and upload an inaccurate and incomplete edited version of the event.

Thanks for this. If the Clare Boothe people cave and pull the video to make edits, I'll just put it back up in its original form. If it gets pulled, I'll put it on DailyMotion.

The SJW crowd really is trying to make its cue from the Soviet Union in that it's trying to get people to rewrite history. But they can be outsmarted with technology.

The way you can download video is a program called Download Helper, which allows you to grab video from YouTube, usually in MP4 or AVI form. If that doesn't work, get VideoCacheView, which lets you to access most videos in your cache, and copy them to the desktop. There's also a site called KeepVid for this.

This whole thing, by the way, is verging on insanity. Sommers is pretty harmless as speakers go and even if you don't agree you have to give her credit for being a successful author. And yet the students are behaving as if the school invited Charles Manson to talk.

RE: C.H. Sommers' "Dangerous Speech"
Actually kastor all is an even better streaming downloader. It can download almost every site and tranfer to many different formats. Its not tied to a browser but a seperate program. It does have a limit on two videos at a time.
