Yes the character isn't gay just a thief whom broke into Raiden's temple to steal a family heirloom left behind by his cousin Kung Lao. Raiden says it's okay he was a former thief, and that he can repent and change. This explains why he frees a thief from being executed by Kotal Kahn and almost starting a war with Outworld as he himself was redeemed from that.

Edit: The heart desire bit is because Kung Jin blames himself for not stopping his cousin from going to his doom in Outworld and dying at the hands of Shao Kahn. The statue is his cousin's memento and he wants to atleast take that back with himself in order to preserve Kung Lao's memory. I highly doubt it has anything to do with being gay due to the fact that he frees a guy about to be killed for stealing bread in Outworld just moments before the flashback(while talking about how he was given a second chance) and he's sneaking into his cousin's grave while earlier cursing Raiden for allowing his cousin to die. It would be rather convoluted to randomly say something about him being gay in that context period.

Edit2: I'm more pissed that Netherrealms needed to pander to a crowd to get an already good game extra hype. I guess the world is heading in a dark direction the second one of the darker and gorier fighters has to be preapproved by the likes of Kotaku and the hyper feminist crowd. Still going to enjoy the game, but it is what it is. All this in one line of dialogue not even important to the scene itself.

I honestly don't care what kind of progressive ideas to introduce into modern games, but contriving shit and and deliberately injecting these kind of things into games for the sake of doing it is just awful and tasteless.

Mortal Kombat is violent fighting game about good vs evil - an ancient battle of the Nether realm and the Earth realm in an eternal power struggle. Someone's sexual orientation is pointless to this. In fact I can't recall anytime in the Mortal Kombat saga where sexuality was even a factor save for the "kiss of death" fatality. This is just overt pandering to LBGT interests to jump on the party line. Et tu MK?

I love how SJWs were calling Mortal Kombat the most sexist, violent, patriarchal, "problematic" game ever and are now suddenly embracing it lol.

But for real though - as a lifetime fighting game player - a gay character is nothing new, like some folks pointed out above. When each game has a roster that's larger and larger - of course there's gonna be a LOT of diversity.
Tekken Tag Tournament 2 had 59 characters
Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3 - 48 characters
Ultra Street Fighter 4 - 44 characters
King of Fighters 13 - 38 characters
Dead Or Alive 5: Last Round - 34 characters

With those kinds of roster sizes, of course there will be variety, because variety is built into the enjoyment of the game.


It's just SJWs making a mountain out of a mole hill like they usually do.
What disappoints me is that people on this forum making the same mountain out of a molehill.
It's 10 seconds of dialog from a vast expansive story told over many hours, there's no "shoehorning", or "gay propaganda", its 10 seconds, it's done subtly (unlike the infamous Girl Thor fights the Patriarchy comic recently, but that's another story), hell - they even had to get the developer to clarify it for them because it wasn't obvious, stop acting like Kung Jin is wearing a Brazilian Carnival outfit made out of dicks

But hey - if it brings attention to a very high quality product like Mortal Kombat X - then good. The developers did a great job. I purchased it for the PS4 and I've been having a great time. I have some friends in the tournament scene, so I'm very curious as to how the game will shape up.

Also - to change topic slightly, I'm really enjoying Reptile with the unblockable gas the most right now, followed by Sonya with a drone and Quan Chi with the portal grabs, but hey its still early

Nah my favorite characters that got killed off were Baraka and Mileena. Baraka's death was even more sad as it was in a flashback(yes you fight him and perform a fatality on him). That and the whole Mileena's Civil War bit would have made such a good plot in and if itself without a Shinook. Quan Chi was cool too so I can't say killing him off wasn't sad as well but more on the former two.

I thought the story was the weakest part of the game. Especially when compared to the reboot and even the way the comics were setting it up (there is one scene where teenage girls kill a man in a straight up fight that will make your eyes roll).

The gameplay is the best in the series (though it's only real competition is MK9).

Brutalities (in name only, thank god) are very satisfying (love they brought back the Ice Grenade/Snowball) and probably my favorite part of the game (along with variations). Don't have a main, but like Sub-Zero, Scorpion, Raiden (so much better than the last game), Kenshi and Ermac. Liu Kang and Kenshi's son: Takeda I can see being overpowered. I wanted to play as Quan Chi, but he feels limited and slow. You can only do his Sorcerer moves if the enemy is tranced (since they are too slow)

Eh nothing like a couple of girls in spandex kicking the shit out of evil sorcerers. I don't see an issue.
