Don Charney was the guy who created a fashion empire at the age of 20 only to be ousted by alleged sexual harassment claims. He has a pretty interesting back-story. Now he is being replaced by Paula Schneider (feminist).

"Women have always been in charge at American Apparel," the ad reads. "In fact, women make up 55% of our global workforce (sorry, guys) and an even higher percentage of our leadership and executive roles. This structure is incredibly (and unfortunately) rare in the corporate world."

The women are identified by their name, title and start date at the fashion house.

The ad only ran in Vice, which itself is going through changes: In February, Ellis Jones was appointed editor in chief, telling New York magazine that she wanted to bring in a new audience that would "realize it's not a lad's mag, and that we don't just do d-k and fart jokes."

I'm not against female CEOs in principle, though I would avoid working for one. However, females CEOs are probably less likely to do a good job for struggling companies. Look at Yahoo. The only reason Marissa Meyer hasn't run it into the ground is because Starboard Value stepped in to give her some advice and a thinly veiled threat. Do these things to fix the company or we'll fight for control of the board and fire you.

Did this guy not have 51% or more of his own company? How does that work? What is the point of starting a company if you can be fired from it? Does that not make one an employee, rather than an owner?

The risk-taker mentality is also a double-edged sword and depends on the industry you are in I think. If it's high-tech it's great but in a slow-growing mature business you don't need a gung-ho CEO or COO who's pushing the envelope on all fronts.

That doesn't mean that women would be any better than men in senior positions though and I still maintain the emotional aspects of them is a big negative. Have seen it in companies large and small and nobody needs that drama and it can be really tough to deal with, almost stultifying. I've worked under or with a few women who've been pretty irrational and it's not fun or productive at all.

RE the "emotional aspect" of women, think we really need to start discussing how women are at a natural disadvantage simply bc they are emotionally unstable for almost a week per month on their period. That woman CEO mentioned it the other day and got attacked bigtime (link here http://abcnews.go.com/Business/dallas-ce...d=30338112, warning some of the comments are just awful illogical feminist drivel!) but didn't back down which was nice to see. I know it's the third rail of American politics re women but its' the elephant in the room. Additionally, with up to 1/3 of women over 35 on some sort of anti-depressent it also makes for a more risky, less productive corporate environment too I'd say.

American Apparel is a huge public company (10,000+ employees). Dov Charney presumably owns a lot of stock in the company but the CEO and other executives are appointed by the board of directors, not the founder of the company. As CEO he was an employee and an owner.

When you take a company public you sacrifice a lot of control over its direction. Steve Jobs is another example of a founder fired from the company he created. I doubt he's down to his last $100k considering he probably still owns a large percentage of the company but it must suck to be ousted from something you created and see it get taken over by people that shit all over your original vision.

By the way, American Apparel is a great example of a company appeasing (or even outright supporting) SJWs and still getting taken down because of political correctness. American Apparel donated a lot to pro gay marriage and pro immigration charities over the past decade and even made them major aspects of its culture. But because Charney is red pill the company constantly gets targeted by SJWs for "sexism", "cultural appropriation" and the usual stupid accusations. Goes to show supporting them doesn't mean you won't become a target.
