This isn't surprising, the Quebecers are always rioting about something, its in their French blood to be protesting something or another that us square heads will never quite understand. Also, Concordia is a hot bed of this shit but I usually see them on the news for Israel Apartheid stuff. Quebec is the most "progressive" of the Canadian provinces and especially Montreal but if you drive an hour outside of the city you'll meet a bunch of Quebecois red necks who don't speak English and all of that feminism and progressiveness pretty much disappears. Montreal has always been a swamp of socialist Lé BoBos. Many of these were likely France exports since many have fled the Republic to Quebec for work. 1. Canada has new austerity measures? this is news to me
2. Montreal has been a home to far left grenouilles at least back into the 80s. This is not new or unexpected to see protests here

I have some really good memories of the days I spent back in Quebec when I was younger, I remember one night this chick at a club in Sherbrooke slammed me up against the wall and said let's go fuck at your place, then she drove wasted to my apartment and was grabbing my cock the whole time. As for French Canadians being pussies, that's a crock of shit, yes they may wear visors on the ice and don't throw the biggest body checks but who had the bloodiest gang war in Canadian history? The Biker Wars between the Hells Angels and the Rock Machine in the 90s left over 100 people dead and then there was the October Crisis in the 70s when Quebecois nationalists (terrorists?) were kidnapping politicians and throwing their dead bodies on the streets.

This was pretty big in the news this week, a Quebecois road rager who pulled out a fucking chain saw on a family in a mini-van, the guy is obviously a moron but his rant was pretty good and peppered with some interesting Quebecois swear words, which are all against the Catholic church: tabarnak (tabarnacle), calisse (chalice), ostie (host). Not much to add to this thread. Some you guys's descriptions of Québécois(es) have me rolling. Well played.
As for Montreal, let's not get carried away here. Spring is always protest season. Feminists, Hippies, anti-cops, students, Habs fans; nothing new as far as I'm concerned. Stay away from the Quartier Latin area, wait a couple of weeks for the sun to show up and you'll have a great time. Plus, Spring is a great time to go out and game here, terraces are filled with hot chicks in skirts.

As for the student protests, they should not be taken seriously. They're made of 10% angry environmentalists/feminists/whatever and 90% of people who just come for the show, the opportunity to get wasted, jump on cars and scream as loud as they can. It's just an event, they don't care about the cause.
