Tried searching the forums and didn't see a thread on this particular topic.

Basically looking for good free resources on Mixology (supplies needed, basic techniques, etc...) but also wanted input on the best drinks to make for the ladies as well as any "hacks" for the modern player

I'm already thinking buying high end stuff and filling with lower end liquor.... grey goose filled with Smirnoff etc... but what kind of drinks really pop for women. Anything super unique or culture specific for certain types of girls? For instance I read about a lychee martini in another thread.

I actually like mixology a lot, so I feel like I can add some insight here. What I would recommend is definitely don't go out of your way to bust major dollars on top shelf just for bitches. IF you want to refill bottles go ahead and do that but DON'T make a big show of it. Just have it accepted that that's what you roll with.

As for the drinks, it's more about showing that you're talented at mixing drinks in interesting combos rather than the sheer number of random formulas you can store in your head. Just remember a few key classics that she's likely to ask for in case. My go to is actually creating new drinks that always have a seasonal element to them. This makes them more appropriate to the situation and is a DHV.

Do invest in good glassware. I take it a step further and also invest in whiskey rocks. These are incredibly low cost. 4 highball/Collins glasses is maybe $15 on Amazon. Start with those because they are versatile and have enough space to hold mixed drinks and a few rocks. Rocks are reusable and an interesting conversation piece.

Invest in a good shaker, and I'm going to assume you already have a shotglass around somewhere to standardize your measurements. Other than that, perhaps have lemons or limes around to use as wedge garnishes. That or learn how to make sugar and salt rings, by wetting the edge with lime and dunking the rim onto salt or sugar.

Girls like sweeter and fruitier drinks, which is excellent, because they mask the addition of more alcohol better. Hope this helps.

I'll go through phases where I'll have my drink I enjoy for 6 months or a year before I get sick of it or discover something new to move on to. Was Martinis for a while, then gin and tonics and currently its caipirinha's.

Caipirinha's are somewhat unique, granted it's a popular drink but not everyone has tried cachaca. Also, you can make them really strong and they really don't taste that strong with all the lime and simple syrup or sugar.

Definately get some nice barware maybe a rolling bar or table for your liquor. I think mixed drinks are so much more sexy and set the mood better than just popping a beer. I also like having a few decanters around in my bar as well. I picked up some really nice heavy crystal ones at storage auctoins and keep some liquor in them which addds a nice touch to my little home bar.

Everyone has a few bottles of liquor but drop a few bucks on lemons, limes, bitterss some good mixers, etc and some stuff not everyone has in their bar to kind of set yourself apart.

Mixology has become a niche of sorts for me and something that I drop as bait on first dates while we're at the bar chatting. I casually ask what their favorite mixed drink is and then lead in about my interest in mixology and then say something like "I can tell a lot about a person's personality by what they drink". Can I actually? Not really but it opens the door for an interesting conversation.

In my three years of mixology I've assembled quite the collection of alcohol and mixers but for a newbie here are the essentials.

Nice glassware: Nothing over the top fancy but you want some solid high ball glasses, martini glasses, short square style whiskey glasses and of course shot glasses.

Tools: Simple but elegant looking shaker, long cocktail spoon, measuring glass, measuring spoons.

Ingredients: I like to use quality mixers and alcohol but it can be done on a budget. Costco is your best friend! The bottles will be larger but the price per ounce can't be beat. Their Kirkland brand French vodka has been rumored to be made by Grey Goose but regardless it's very good and only about $20 for a large bottle. Pro tip: I bought a bottle of Grey Goose from Costco and once it was empty I refill it with the Kirkland vodka

Alcohol
Vodka: (see above)
Rum: Bacardi white (clear)
Bailey's
Kahlua
Whiskey: Jack Daniels or Johnny Walker Red. Again, if you can find a Kirkland brand generic buy it. It will be as good or better than the brand names.
Some kind of decent brandy. Doesn't need to be top shelf and will likely be used as just a mixer
Fireball: Need I say more?
Gin: I've only met one woman who insisted on gin so this one is not critical

Dirty Vodka Martini. This drink has gotten me more pussy than any other one. I was never a Martini guy and only learned how to make this at the request of a woman I was seeing years ago. Best advice she ever gave me!

3 oz vodka
1 oz dry vermouth
1 oz water
1 tbs olive juice

Combine ingredients with ice into shaker and shake for a good 45 seconds to a minute. Pour into martini glass and add olives as requested by girl.

Screaming Orgasm (aka the panty dropper). This drink checks the boxes in every category. If you're on a date and really have the flirty sexual vibe going, it's perfect to look at the woman and ask "ever have a screaming orgasm?" When she acts surprised you smirk and say "the drink that is..." Women LOVE. THIS. DRINK.

1 oz kahlua

Combine ingredients in shaker with ice and shake for 20-30 seconds. Pour into whiskey glass over ice. If the woman has never had that before her reaction on the first sip will be "mmmm, good...whoah strong". It's very sweet and creamy and I liken it to nuclear chocolate milk

Other good drinks to make are Cosmos and Sidecars. As for finding recipes there's lots of free or very cheap apps for our phones. I personally have a small ring binder notepad that I keep my recipes on. I like to experiment with the different recipes and see what works best and then make notes.

I can't emphasize enough how great of a skill it is to be able to make some basic drinks and be able to make them better than the average bar! I've had several women who fell in love with the dirty vodka martini recipe I shared above and would even text me photos of a martini they got in a bar saying how much better mine are. Now go get mixing!!

I do the same thing - first date talking at the bar, I drop into the conversation that I'm into mixology, mixing drinks, whatever. It can make a good segue back to my place ("I've been dying to try this drink I just read about the other day") or reason to invite her over before the next date ("come by and we'll have a drink before going out"). I really like OregonSoCal's line about telling a lot about someone by their favorite drink - going to have to file that one away.

Obviously you have to have the basic alcohol - vodka, rum, gin, whiskey, and tequila for starters - and some mixers like cointreau. It's expensive enough to assemble a decent bar that I wouldn't try this on a lark unless you can swing it. Look around for basic cocktail recipes and see what you're into and build your bar around that. I don't go for a lot of girly liqueurs, or you start giving the impression it is less of a hobby and more of a pickup tool. Over time though you can start building out to more esoteric mixers.

Fresh fruit (lime and lemon) is ideal but you can have the refrigerated juice as a backup. A juicer, a muddler, jigger or measuring tool of some sort, and of course a cocktail shaker and you should be good to go. Oh, and I make simple syrup and store it in a squeeze bottle. Girls usually ask what it is so you have an opportunity to tease them.

Thanks for all the responses so its been very helpful.

I'm thinking about having a few demographic hooks too. An Asian dude I work with suggested that sake and plum wine together are delicious. Figured I may use this on the Asian girls.... especially FOBs and 2nd gens as both hook and comfort building. Also something like Sweet Tea Liquor + Lemonade for southern girls etc...

Anyone got any demographic specific ideas like this. I think they are more personal and may produce a slightly higher success rate.

It's either buying chicks drinks and appetizers and throwing hundreds of dollars at night clubs in Vegas OR filling Grey Goose bottles with Smirnoff to save like 10-15 bucks per bottle, if that.

Come on guys. A bottle is enough for a few dates unless you and your date are both alcoholics. The difference in cost per date is negligible.

Any other good chocolate style drinks. My roommates got a Godiva liqueur thats pretty swanky. Want to experiment, I'm guessing plain vodka will go best, but strawberry vodka seems like it has potential, and perhaps rum?

FOBs and second gen have responded very well in my experience to anything that connects you and them with their culture (and that is usually food). I've had several girls freak out when they found out I liked Kimchi for instance.

2. Have a few sodas, juices, mixers on hand. Wine and beer too.

3. Ask a girl what she likes and then facilitate that.

4. Stop saying mixology. Just make a fucking drink.

It's an amusing story.

Detecting quality vodka is another area of vagueness and opposite opinions. Good vodka is meant to be tasteless(to a point). Many people will argue that you can not tell the difference in a blind taste, and I believe that it is difficult to detect a cheap one from a high-end one sometimes, especially if it is mixed.

Personally I avoid the type of female who would turn her nose up to Smirnoff. They're usually more shallow than I can tolerate. Each to their own.

This sounds counterintuitive, but I've been finding that playing the "deceptive rakish cad" and then admitting to my ploys tends to really endear girls to me. So it may be that right after they finish their drink I reveal my subterfuge laughingly, even poking fun at them for no being able to tell. "Thought you were a classy girl... tongues not as discerning as you thought eh... etc..."

Concrete Example - I started doing this with an online profile where I'm posing with a dog that very obviously looks to be mine. Normally girls would ask about it and I'd lie or deflect.... but at some point I just started saying

Her: OMG your dog is so cute
Me: You're rolling deep when you bounce with Mr. Snuggles
Her: lol is that his name, cute
Me: Want to hear a secret
Her: Sure...
Me: That may or may not be my dog, and I may or may not be using it for devious purposes.

My intuition told me that this would turn out badly, but without fail girls find it funny, or even compliment me on my trickery.

- a place where you are powerful (your home bar/club/3rd space)

But if when you chat this Mexicana up, and find out she's into Paris, ask if she's ever had a French 75.

Hah, I actually made this exact mistake back in the day...friendzoned immediately.

Everything you said makes total sense, I'm not sure why I've been having luck with it recently..

It may have to do with a subtle shift in frame. The difference between Me: Oh you're Korean let's go buy some kimchi and have a picnic

and

Louisiana sells liquor everywhere. And it's cheap as fuck at Costco.

It's also illegal to sell liquor with a membership. So even if you don't have a costco membership you can get liquor. Next time you drive through just stop in and buy some.
