RE: Post your guilty pleasures in this thread - no judging
After passing finals I always reward myself with All-you-can-eat Sushi. I actually plan on doing it just once as it is quite expensive but usually end up doing it 3x in the 2 weeks after finals. The thing is I'm a big guy with a healthy appetite and I love sushi. So I usually just drink a whey shake with lots of oats that day to get a good workout, then wait for 2,5 hours after the workout to really let the hunger games begin and then I eat that place empty lol. The owner knows me by now and always looks at me like I'm not welcome which is understandable since what I eat is for sure worth more than what I pay. I actually genuinely feel guilty about that but it's just too damn good and if I'm going to spend that much money on just one meal, I want to make the best of it.

A little anecdote (true story):
Last time I did it, I got there very late so it was half an hour before they closed so I had to eat fast anyways. Next to me was a skinny dude sitting with an Asian Smokeshow like she was at least an 8.5 (more like a 9, as Asians are my favorites) in my book, and I mean good for him but I just hate it when skinny guys score so damn high so I thought game on, bitch I'm gonna eat more plates in 10 minutes than you the whole evening. Which is exactly what I did and then some. When they left, I could finally see their whole table. Turns out the plates he had stapled before him were actually his AND his girlfriends Big Grin Blush
The waitress who served me initially then left a few minutes before I got up, so a different waitress brought me the bill. On it was twice the price it actually costs so I asked her about it. She said "well, twice the all-you-can-eat plus your tea". I said well but I was alone so it's just once all-you-can-eat. She looked at my plates, then looked back at me, puzzled, and said "Oh I'm sorry, I thought you were with someone, I must have mistaken you for someone at another table."

I like to peel off the dead skin after a sunburn and try to get the largest whole piece possible. Another benefit of having a pet chameleon by the way, lots of practice.

I'm not a fan of this thread and others like it. They generate a large number of very low value posts and it seems like a good deal of the uninspired and unmemorable prattle that characterized the mercifully locked "unpopular opinions" thread has migrated into threads like this.

There is a difference between threads that develop organically into guys shooting the shit on any given subject, and dedicated refuges of inanity like this thread.

Then don't read it. Prattle threads let the prattle steam off and keep it out of good threads.

No. They proliferate and make the whole forum feel excessively slack and uninspired.

We already have the forum lounge for random musings. That is a great thread because it has an organic ebb and flow over time, it reads well and contains many good posts. That is very different from creating these stagnant swamps of inane chatter.

Can I get you a glass of warm milk?

The question is, what kind of forum do we want to have? Do we want a bunch of bullshit threads which require no effort whatsoever, or do we want to challenge guys to find inspired subjects and stretch themselves?

Guys will do what they want, but I'd hate to see a great forum dwindle into something no better than a miscellany of banal tweets.

Lizard makes a great point. At first I thought this thread was the unpopular opinions thread rehashed. There is not a big difference between the two really. A thread where others can easily get into trouble. Does it add value? Depends upon what is shared. Some things posted can help you learn more about your bros on a personal level and some stuff is just too much information or just plain old nasty.

Guys will do what they want, but I'd hate to see a great forum dwindle into something no better than a miscellany of banal tweets.

And how are you going to make guys come here and generate inspired content? There is no 'reverse warning' and 'reverse thread closure'. You can silence discussion effortlessly by clicking the 'close thread' button but you cannot click the 'open new interesting thread' button and have people magically appear and start writing. People are attracted to lively discussion, and discussion creates discussion. The lounge, the funny thread, the 10s thread, the unpopular opinions thread, are not 'inspiring' but they do get filled. The longer people hang around here, even if they spend a lot of time in these so called 'banal' threads, the more likely they eventually end up posting something of value. 10 users posting pure insightfulness, whenever it so comes to them, cannot beat 10,000 users who only post insightful content in 5% of their posts. This is why we have 'threads' and 'thread title rules', so we can choose to partake or not in any given topic (including datasheets and reports).

It is interesting to note the competition in the 'travel to get girls' themed discussion space is negligible. A small amount of the discussion was going to NNF, and most of that was from ex-RVF banned members. Whoever is coming up with insight in this theme, is posting it on his personal site or here. People are not avoiding posting it because there is 'too much banality'. In actuality, all that noise means to people with something to say is 'a big audience for me'.

Frankly I was so surprised by the closure of the unpopular opinions thread. The thread itself was not a source of rule breaking, it simply said 'state your unpopular opinions', and members did so, including many top members and the founder. The thread had no life of its own, but its presence stimulated the presentment of ideas. I read many interesting opinions in that thread, almost all of them 'red pill'. At one particular point in the thread a newbie posted "I've been reading all of this and its awesome". The sheer lack of political correctness is refreshing to any young western man who is sick of it and stumbles across this site. It was an attraction point. It was not just guys spouting bile (although there was a fair share of that). That this forum, which was basically founded on unpopular ideas/opinions, and actively revels in opinions that the mainstream would consider far worse than just 'unpopular', closed its thread of that name, is dismaying.

RE: Post your guilty pleasures in this thread - no judging
You're lumping together great and classic threads like the 10 thread, the Lounge and the Funny threads (thanks Excelsior, Tuth, etc) with threads like this?

C'mon. The idea that these threads show off the politically incorrect and "redpill" aspects of the RVF is false; if anything, most non-PC and "redpill" comments are as banal as their ideological opposites on Jezebel.

The point was that the great threads evolve organically, like the Lounge; while threads like this just have guys preening and saying stupid shit like: if I wrote about my real guilty pleasures, the mods would ban me. These threads are basically junk and shitposting.

You guys are really arguing about this? Instead of complaining, why not post what you feel is quality content? Otherwise you're arguing in a thread you claim not to like about threads you don't like, which is beyond pointless.

RE: Post your guilty pleasures in this thread - no judging
The only guilty pleasure I can think of that I would find embarrassing would be a few types of TV shows. I don't watch them anymore, not even sure if they are on, but I used to watch Teen Mom and Keeping up with the Kardashians. I didn't do it religiously, I swear Smile, but when I was sitting around drunk and bored....I found it interesting in a perverse type of way.

These days I watch The Good Wife and actually enjoy it. I think they do a great job presenting current events from a philosophical point of view showing the different arguments. I know it has a huge liberal slant and is basically a propaganda mouthpiece for the democratic party but that is one of the things that interests me about it. I watched the new show from yesterday and they covered a hypothetical version of what happened in Indiana with Christian bakeries and so on. I would advocate that you guys, no matter whether liberal or conservative, check out that episode. It bring up many questions for me, namely how they are able to film this shit so quickly?

On one hand it doesn't look like they have that much overhead compared to many shows. But then again, how do they write, film, and edit on a topic within a week or two of it blowing up in the media. Part of me wonders if some of these issues aren't resolved long before they become a media sensation. Then again, that sounds somewhat conspiratorial with "elites" conditioning everyone and so on.

Either way, I do think it is interesting and a generally well-done show.

Women these days think they can shop for a man like they shop for a purse or a pair of shoes. Sorry ladies. It doesn't work that way.

Women are like sandwiches. All men love sandwiches. That's a given. But sandwiches are only good when they're fresh. Nobody wants a day old sandwich. The bread is all soggy and the meat is spoiled.

-Poker. I take solo casino trips 1-2x per month and play online in NJ. It combines strategy, competition, nerdy statistics/math, etc. Huge waste of time but I'm in love with it.

-Choreography. I'll watch the latest Bieber or Chris Brown video and practice the moves for an hour at a time in my bed room. Then never use them.

-Playing pick up basketball against high school kids. Even though I'm only 5'9, I'm a grown ass man who lifts weights. It's shameful how much I enjoy pretending to be LeBron with kids who probably couldn't get in to an R-rated movie without their moms.

-AYCE buffets. When it comes to food, quantity > quality.

^^^I agree with Phoenix. Threads like this are effectively 'online free speech' to an extent, they do not break any rules and are often quite amusing.

If people don't want to read such 'banal' posts, then they don't have to read the thread.

Unless threads like this are distracting members from making higher-quality posts (this may be what you're suggesting Lizard), then I don't see a reason not to have them. I like a place to let off steam.
