Those of us in NYC are probably aware of the gas explosion in the East Village that killed 2 and injured 25. There is a belief among the authorities that this could possibly be a crime and they are currently investigating. People have come to pay their respects, but don't ever underestimate the opportunity and need to attention whore.

A small collection of selfies that some careless social media participants have taken near the site of Thursday’s tragic East Village gas explosion are stoking widespread disgust at the posters’ poor taste.

The blast set four buildings ablaze on Second Ave. near E. Seventh St. and left two people missing and 25 injured. It also apparently inspired at least three vanity shots.

Events photography company EventPhotosNYC posted a Twitter pic on Friday night of seven young women grinning in front of emergency vehicles on the site, with one of them holding up a phone on a selfie stick, local blog EV Grieve reported. “Friday night #eastvillage,” the caption says.

This is how different they think, and as a result, they are delighted with things which would horrify us. If you grow accustomed to thinking that you can predict other people’s thoughts and behaviors based upon your own, you are setting yourself up to be eaten alive by a character like this. They don’t think like us, and as a result you will be unable to understand them, and will never adapt.

Case in point – this guy. His wife tried to inject fecal matter into his IV, but he still can’t grasp that she wants to hurt him, because it would be so illogical. He is loyal to her, and she is dependent upon him, so why would she want to hurt him?

I wonder, what did she do to put him in the hospital in the first place?

When I see a guy who can’t grasp the nature of the evil he is dealing with, I truly feel for him. He is just too good to adapt to true evil. Sadly, he will have to hit rock bottom, before it gets better, and I am sure his narcissist will work 24/7 to make that happen.

Perhaps in her absence he will see how much nicer life is without her around, and he will come to his senses. Until then, he has a tough life ahead of him.

Narcissists are evil. They are not selfish. They do not think of themselves. So strong is their urge to hurt they will do it selflessly, and sacrifice greatly themselves, just to see others hurt. They are the face of evil, and people need to understand that they must deal with them as such.

I'm not saying that the selfie-chicks are secretly murdering people, but I am saying that they are narcissistic and miserable - and only the sight of more misery can make them feel not-miserable. (Because why self-examine, and then change?)

Its just an extension of the bystander effect where people just stand around at the scene of the accident.

It has nothing to do with the mobile phone generation.

Instead of standing around dumbstruck, we simply document.
And yell World Star.

I respectfully disagree. You're right that the bystander effect is nothing new and occurs in countries outside of the Anglosphere, too. But what's new, here, I think, is the way the woman in question is visibly and demonstrably emotionally indifferent to the harrowing events that have just occurred, whilst taking a superficial delight in documenting her own presence at the scene. It's just another indicator of how women are becoming increasingly sociopathic in Anglosphere societies; their pronounced lack of empathy is what this example highlights more than anything else.

This is no indicator of anything new.
As I said..men do the same thing across the board. Yelling world star and what not.

Men lack and suppress empathy on greater levels.
This is highlighted but the mail majority of sociopaths, psychopaths, serial killers ect.

The article notes that at least one man also took a picture.
More than likely the difference is that we don't notice the pictures men take because men will not have a large circle of orbiters watching.

The reason a woman would take so many picture is because of the amount of men that give her attention.
