Parents send their kids to school to be educated not to fuck the instructors/appointed guardians.

These are sounds points, and it has nothing to do with "power differentials" or "statutory rape" - she's monumentally failed at being a teacher. However, usually when someone fails to do their job properly, they're fired. Charges like gross criminal negligence, that can lead to time in prison, usually require someone to have died. We're several orders of magnitude out here: a fifteen year old got laid.

During the height of the Royal Navy, in the 17th through 19th centuries, British naval officers began their careers as "midshipmen," usually around the age of 12. If both parties consented, it's not "rape", period. To call it rape is yet another way of abusing that word.

Even in the current insane legal system the crime is called statutory rape (when one of the parties is below the age of consent). Statutory rape is not the same as rape and carries very different (and lesser) penalties.

The fact remains that both boys and girls of the age of 15 are fully sexual creatures, many of whom are fucking each other and loving every moment of it. In older cultures, this was considered a marriageable age -- especially so for females since they were valued for beauty and sexual maturity, not wealth or status -- and girls of 15 were routinely given out in marriage to much older men, to the perfect satisfaction of all parties involved. Indeed, there is at least one state in the US (Louisiana) where 15 is still the official age of consent -- although in this case this would not apply since the teacher is considered in loco parentis (essentially a figure of authority or provisional guardian) and so 18 would be the applicable age of consent in any state.

As Ocelot pointed out in his superb post upthread, the whole discourse about "power asymmetries" is vicious and utterly toxic, and its sole purpose is to poison the relationship between the sexes and create victimless crimes so as to constrain and thwart male sexuality -- specifically, sexual relationships between older men and younger women, which both sides often crave and enjoy but which are a thorn in the side of HAGS who hate hate hate the idea of older guys fucking luscious young pussy and loving it, and will do anything to prevent it. Teachers having sex with students should have their license drawn. Whether male teachers should go to prison, I'm not sure. I would probably lean towards such a sentence. But I'm very sure that female teachers should not serve prison for it.

Something to note. I always tell people that no matter what the state AOC, treat it as 18, and of course no one on RVF advocates for sex with underage girls. This is one of these theoretical discussions that never ends well, and is probably best reserved for other forums...

You make a good point: 6 years, male or female, is excessive, almost Draconian. The student consented by having a boner and was equally complicit in the sex. In my opinion, the best punishment for this type of offense would be:

1) Immediate termination with no change of unemployment benefits
2) Banned from teaching for life
3) Some kind of fine, like $2,000. If you can't pay the fine you do a month in jail.

Unless there's evidence of actual rape (teacher drugged the student or pinned him/her down, etc) then's there shouldn't be such an extended sentence.
