The pink ribbon was used for breast cancer in the nineties. I could be wrong but I only remember seeing the yellow version after the invasion of Afghanistan.

The yellow ribbon thing goes back to 1979 when they released the hostages from Iran (after Reagan got elected and Ayatollah Khomeini thought he was going to get nuked if he kept them). Someone thought that stupid song "Tie a Yellow Ribbon" would be a great way to greet them, then it was yellow ribbons tied to trees everywhere - forgetting yellow is a symbol of cowardice. I never got it - the song was about some beta loser pining away for his (probably cheating) girl.

Then post-2001 somebody thought it would be great to make ribbon magnets and sell them to everybody. Bam - two bucks for a sticker = instant patriotism; whew, no need for a draft.

I quit playing piano after my parents started forcing me to do it as a punishment
It saps all the joy out of it
But, pt seems to be the way it works in the military and I don't know how those guys feel about working out after that.

If your recreational physical training is "fun", you are doing it wrong. You know how many pushups and situps I had to do in Martial Arts training for fucking up?

I enjoy nothing more than barbell training. It's one of the great joys of my life. If someone made me do it Asa punishment though, I could see myself quickly learning to dislike what was once my best pastime

I don't know if other British members would agree but The Independent is the newspaper of choice of the British mangina. Such a readers', hip, middle class, sophist New Left existence would cause them to look down at the British working class and the US 'red neck' social strata especially before asking their girlfriends for a good strap-on session.

RE: Mangina Father publicly shaming son
This guy is trying to attract women at the cost of his son's dignity.

Notice the "both of my dad's houses" or whatever.

Why is that necessary?

The dad is trying to advertise that he's got resources.

Shaming him in public?

Totally unnecessary.

He wants pats on the back from bitches to say "what a great father who stands up to bullies"!

This dad is an asshole.

He should discipline his son, tell him whats right and wrong, and move on. Advertising this shit like he deserves a medal is disgraceful.

Also, no way can this chump do 50 pushups.

We were meant for far more than to suffer in our self created prisons only to die alone. It doesn't have to be that way. It never did.

Punishment shouldn't be exercise or work. That is only going to lead to the kid associating these (positive) activities with negative connotations, which in the formative years is not a good thing.

With two gay dads and a name like 'Kayden' makes one wonder whether the kid was really a bully or just defending himself.

Edit: Just went back to the OP and saw the apostrophe, "Dad's" not "Dads". Think I'll get that second cup of coffee now.

RE: Mangina Father publicly shaming son
Once this kid is away from the control of his father is he going to be more or less likely to exercise? I'm guessing in future he'll be more likely to avoid it as much as he can. I wasn't punished with exercise but when I was a kid my dad would punish me by making me do gardening, these days I avoid gardening at all costs, I don't even want to live in a house that has a garden, I hate gardening that much.

Ideally the father would be doing pushups and going for runs with his son showing his son that hard physical exercise is a positive thing to be doing.

For those that are supporting using exercise as punishment do you still do those exercises in your free time?

(It is worse that he's attention whoring this on social media but everyone seemed to be in agreement, nothing more I could have added)

RE: Mangina Father publicly shaming son
Quote:Reports said that Mr Robenhorst’s son had approved of the punishment and thanked his father.

Kayden, told the Daily Mail, that he had said something “stupid” to a boy at school. He said his father had later found about what had happened.

“When he found up, he woke me up at 3.30a, in the morning, and he sat me down on the couch. And when I didn’t come up with a good enough excuse to save my butt, I told the truth,” he said.

“He made me do 50 knuckle push-ups, run a mile, then come back and do incline push-ups. And I'm still not done.”

He added: “I think it's a really good punishment - I learned my lesson and he's a good dad for doing it.”

This story is too strange for words, some goofy attention-whoring neo nazi shaming his son publicly on the internet, but the son seems to be a good sport about his dad exercising discipline.

The father has at least 2 DUI and whatever a PAC is. The boy is now saying how great his father is as well for the punishment. The apple doesn't fall far from the tree.

Amid the images of his son posing with the apology sign and doing press-ups, is a photograph of Mr Robenhorst wearing a red T-shirt with a Swastika.

Asked by one commenter why he is wearing such a T-shirt, Mr Robenhorst responded: “Because it's a symbol of my beliefs!”

He is drinking light beer. Just saying.

I find it embarrassing when men attention-whore.

I can slightly excuse women for attention-whoring because it is in their nature.

But not men, they should never do it.

RE: Mangina Father publicly shaming son
A slightly different take:

There's a difference between 'discipline' and teaching your children something valuable without creating resentment in them.

'Discipline', as it's commonly practiced, is using your position of superior strength, authority and your son's helpless dependence upon you for the basics of survival, and forcing him by these means to endure some kind of so-called punishment.

Presumably, this links the unacceptable act they committed with an unpleasant result.

But we all have an intuitive sense that this kind of discipline is largely ineffective.

The fact that there's a 3rd party administering this punishment primarily associates the father with the punishment, rather than the 'bad thing' with the punishment.

This kind of discipline is self-indulgent, lazy and fruitless.

It gives the appearance of teaching the son to never do that bad thing again, but in fact it just teaches the son to avoid punishment, *not* the the things that invoke the punishment.

In fact, it makes him crave to do those things even more.

It creates a forbidden fruit factor that makes doing 'bad' things scintillating; a challenge!

Oh, do kids ever love a challenge.

And boys are human, they love freedom.

If you wield power of them like a dictator, they *will* apply all their creativity to finding ways to undermine you, resist you and reassert their independence.

You take advantage of their helplessness and punish them blindly? They'll find a way to give you the proverbial middle finger, guaranteed.

This kind of discipline is the equivalent of trying to use brute force in a fight against a bigger, stronger opponent.

What you need is jiu jitsu.

It doesn't require any thought or ingenuity to make your son do pushups, and doesn't teach him not to bully.

And further, why is bullying bad? Why is that taken for granted?

We're trying to force feed our son canned notions of good and bad but he'll never buy it unless he sees first hand, on his own, what his actions bring about.

If you can help him arrive at his own conclusions, he'll actually learn and have no cause to resent you.

If you really care about teaching your kids and helping them avoid ruining their lives through stupid acts, you have to find clever ways to engineer their learning; to convey not say, to him why bullying is bad, in a way that he comes to the understanding by himself, unforced and uncoerced.

Otherwise you simply teach your son to be a cleverer 'bad' guy, and to view you as a tyrant who needs to be appeased and lied to, rather than a hero to look up to, learn from and TRUST.

This is why parables and stories have remained with us down through the ages.

They lead you to an understanding without shoving it down your throat.

They teach you without beating over the head with the teaching.

Most of us, if we're lucky enough, can remember one or two people in our lives who had a magical way of imparting knowledge to us in a way that we felt we discovered it.

This is the way of the superior parent.

This is the way of true, effective discipline.

RE: Mangina Father publicly shaming son
Let me get this straight. This guy is a white suprememist Nazi (extermination of Jews/blacks) and is punishing his son for being a bully? Am I the only one seeing the irony?

The dad is a pussy. I grew up having to watch these clowns. They try and intimidate through strength in numbers, but when you see them on the streets alone, they are scared. I used to punk these dudes out all the time, but they would never jump because they knew I'd have shot them in the fucking face, even when four of them were in the bar.

They live in trailer parks, wear flight jackets/ Doc Martins, and watch Fight Club every night. The son is probably acting out cause his dad is such a simp, but doesn't have a male role model to help him channel that energy.

RE: Mangina Father publicly shaming son
It looks like female attention whoring is rubbing off on the male population. Just look at that fucking picture. The dad made himself the focus of the picture. Why does that dad even need to be in the picture? You can hardly even see the kid. The dude probably threw that beater on to show off his tattoos because he thinks he's a badass. Total fail.

Another problem I see is that there is no way this kid is going to respect his father. I don't see this guy as someone who has the ability to sit down and impart wisdom to his son. Moreover, he appears to care more about making a statement on social media than he does about actually fixing his kid's behavior. Again, total fail. Poor kid doesn't have a chance.

I think the "two houses" refers to the duplex he lives in. If you go to Google maps and 2111 Dove, Green Bay, WI 54304, you can see him sitting on the front steps drinking beer with another man.
