The real genius of that show was that they resisted the temptation to write Elaine in as some kind of straight-lace schoolmarm character to counter the narcissistic behavior of Jerry, George, and Kramer. She's written to be just as inconsiderate and self-absorbed as the others, which is what makes her character actually funny. Other sitcoms typically follow the Marge/Lisa Simpson pattern of making the character nothing but a do-gooder meant to hector the dumb males after they've screwed something up. It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia even plays on this stereotype by having Dee frequently profess that sort of attitude at the beginning of an episode only to be shown later on totally failing to live up to her own claimed moral high horse.
