RE: Moscow Update
Cicero, do you remember the amount of hours you have spend learning Russian as you noticed that things became more fluent? Right now I'm about ~130h under my belt and it still feels tough means I have to rummage about the correct tense etc.

@Roosh, how about your Russian are you still learning it or did you dropped it?

RE: Moscow Update
130h is nothing bro. I knocked off 70 units of Pimsleur, and took a college course on russian all before setting foot in Russia. I bet I've now listened to all 90 Pimsleur lessons 3 times, plus 6-8 hours a week of Russian for past 6 months, mostly on one-on-one tutoring sessions where English is strictly banned -- the gold standard when learning languages.

And after all this my Russian is still admittedly pretty shitty. I butcher noun declensions like no other. But my Russian is also already fairly functional, and I can tell I've improved a lot, which is rewarding. Girls love listening to my bizarre Russian for some reason -- probably, they've never heard anything like it and think it's cute.

If you do one-on-one lessons regularly and talk a lot during these, your Russian will improve.

Other learning tips are to do a bit of Russian every day, to listen to Russian when you work out/drive/do laundry, and to do Russian before you go to bed (so that you dream in Russian; this is unproven and speculative, but makes sense to me)... Learning a language isn't like lifting weights -- don't touch it for 3 days and you'll regress. After a one-on-one session, I find I'm "hyper fluent" for about 48 hours, after that it wears off.

There's a Japanese saying that the first foreign language you learn is like climbing a mountain, after that it's like climbing a hill. I was already conversational in four languages before Russian, which helps...

Learning languages takes a serious time commitment. But, for me at least, I really enjoy it and find it extremely rewarding. There's nothing like learning a language and laying girls in that language.

I also live in Moscow but spend less than $2k a month, about $1500 I'd say. That said I don't have my own flat (live with 3 roommates).

Agree with Cicero that Moscow went from "crazy expensive" for nicer things to more like "more expensive than E. Europe, but cheaper than W. Europe" which is basically what it should be.

A beer is now $3-5 at most bars, as opposed to $7-$10 as of last June.

I do find politics is an issue, but mostly with guys. It's definitely killed a lot of my guy friendships.

But in spite of all the changes for the worse recently I still frequently have experiences that are worth it and keep me here.

That said I have taken some vacations to Ukraine and I would definitely recommend it above Moscow for anyone that has a location-independent job (or is just going for a short stay). Costs right now in Ukraine are stupid cheap, the women are hotter IMHO, and much more Westerner friendly and open.

Still great potential in Moscow because unlike Kyiv there are biz opportunities here, but the women take time and effort based on my experience.

Thought I'd also post that the average Moscow salary is now right around $1000/month ($12,000/year). A low-level job (barrista at Starbucks or waitress) earns about half that ($6,000/year). So there's definitely a returning sense of poverty here. There's still tons of rich people, don't get me wrong, but the middle class is eroding away. If you have a decent job and decent looks, it's stupid easy to find good wife material these days.

Well, not really. There's a reason I said "wife material" specifically. Having been coming to this part of the world for well over a decade, I can say that the whole "happy-go-lucky" care-free sexual revolution that was going on from 1995-2005 or so is basically over and done with. Especially in the past year I feel Russian society is becoming more conservative, with all that entails, such as more of a focus on family and marriage.

There's still plenty of opportunities in Moscow for short-term game (ONS is extremely rare). If you're looking for a wife, though, great time to be in Russia.

@BigDave, I would disagree a bit; the women might be Westerner friendly but many are also quite cautious! When I was in Kiev last year (and lesser extent Simferopol) I was shit-tested frequently and even though i'm a mellow, non-aggressive guy on several occasions the "sex tourist" flags seemed to go up with the UA girls. Moscow does not seem to have that problem. I am pretty sure a westerner will not be lumped in the same pot as some of the sleazy Turkish and Italian "tourists"...I believe visiting for business reasons excuse will be very legit in Moscow whereas in Kiev even after telling the princesses I was there for a UN conference some still had doubts (maybe because of staying for only 1 week).

RE: Moscow Update
I may be returning back to Moscow later this year. Can anyone recommend me some good places to live. Although it wasn't long ago, since I was last living in Moscow, I need some help in jogging my memory ?

I am thinking of spending around 20k to 45krub a month, with bills included. I am not too fussed in regards to living out of the Brown ring. For me its more to do with decency of the neighbourhood, if there is a good park nearby or large shopping mall in the vicinity that is a plus for me.

Moscow is a great city, if you go there as a boy you will return back home as a man. Despite being an "international city" foreigners in terms of Europeans and Americans aren't too common. There is a lot of business opportunities as shock horror, London & New York aren't the only places were people are making money in the world. Also the location of Moscow, means that you can travel to a lot of cool places in EE, M.E and Asia with more ease.

The high end Russian girls I’ve had have been among the best lays of my life. These dyvushki know how to please men. Its striking to me how much better it is laying really hot girls. And it isn’t because these girls are naturally hotter, though it’s part. It’s because really hot women are more focused on pleasing men. They suck your cock better, they pretend to like it when you cum on their face more, they wear hotter underwear and leg stockings, and even act hotter.

The Russian girls I hang out with think travelling is the coolest thing in the world. When I go on trips, I get lots of adoring texts from my prospects/harem. One way to break a girl who is hot but dead set on not having sex early in a relationship is to take a weekend trip somewhere cheap. She'll put out.

My biggest sticking point here is actually finding really hot girls. (6s & 7s are easy to arrange dates with; 8s and 9s not so much) As I've mentioned, I actually don't think it's obviously true that there are more hot women in Moscow than, say, New York City.

And, for me, since I’m actually wife-hunting, to finding baby-mama material. Can’t say I’ve come that close…

Hotter girls get a lot more attention from men than plain or modestly attractive females. They also, accordingly, enjoy more sexual experience. (At least, according to American sex surveys. This finding has been consistent.)

This is true of the most attractive females in general. They get hit on more often and are most often in the position of being the "Gate keeper" of sex.

Does anyone have any survey data of females in other nations showing anything different?

(Obviously, "Sex survey" data is notoriously unreliable, for obvious reasons. And more so for countries where sexuality is hidden and shamed, unlike, says Northern European countries.)

I don't have any good recommendations at that price. I've barely set foot out of the center. When I was looking for apartments, I did look at a few places out of the center, I think the cheapest was for 50,000 rubles, but I didn't like the area (it was a new metro), and I eventually opted for the center, where the apartments themselves were nicer and in a much nicer area, but for only a bit more money. I wouldn't want to see what a 20,000 ruble flat looks like in Moscow, but you could get an acceptable place for 45,000 rubles for sure. I do view my flat as being an asset with pussy. It's close to many good dating options nearby, so that I can invite a girl to one of the bars/restaurants across the street from my flat, saving time on the meetup and making an extraction easier (my flat is right there). And then when girls enter my flat they probably realize that I pay more as much for rent as she makes a month, and she probably realizes this even when I tell her where I live. This is nice because this allows you to brag without bragging.

Some other money-saving tips for dating... I often take girls out to eat cheaply. But here's what I do: I eat before I go out. Russian girls don't eat much, so the expensive part of taking girls out to eat is usually feeding myself, as a main dish may cost $10-15, but are often so small that I need 3-4 of them to fill up. Instead, I'll eat first, and then order a drink and maybe an appetizer at the restaurant. Thus, you've taken them out for dinner and drinks at a fancy restaurant, and only dropped $30-40... Occasionally, however, you might get a girl who decides to take you to the bank and orders lobster, a fancy salad, and hookah. Then you could be looking at a $100/6,000 ruble bill, even though you didn't eat anything and just had one $5 drink. In this case, don't be afraid to at least try to finger her in the elevator afterward, never take her for dinner again, and seek revenge later with punishment sex.

Also, another thing I've noticed with Russian women. They seem to have a phobia of being f*cked on sheets where other women have been f*cked -- much more so than American girls. They'll also freak out if you try to hop into bed with "dirty" outdoor clothes. They will certainly search your sheets for signs of hair of other females as though they were investigating the Nemtsov murder. Cleaning this shit up with a lint roller is important, but some girls are so skeptical that even if they don't see visible signs of other females they'll act weird about sex on your bed, even if you assure them you just washed your sheets. This isn't the biggest deal, but my advice here would be to get black sheets, and always have a change of sheets handy or lint roll it before girls come over. Other option is to just f*ck them on your couch or kitchen table, which somehow they always believe were perfectly clean, even though you can't wash your couch...

Well, I don't think this is off-topic. I guess he uses a fake name when he goes out, and maybe he is feeling the Anti-American sentiment from a different perspective.

By the way, is the anti-American feeling these days very high in Moscow? I’m sure most girls are not into politics, but some do, at least this is my experience when I was there last week.
I’m just asking because I was getting a lot of negative reactions when I get into deep conversations with them over VK or even mamba (which is known, let’s say, for ladies with average iq),
it always get down into to that stuff after some mails, my gosh
In the US girls hate politics they never go that road, sometimes I miss home.
And even though I am half Scandinavian (but anyway viewed/interpreted as
American because of my strong accent).
How is the anti-American mood at the moment?

@AkiKinnunen, I'm also interested in the questions that you pose. I'm in the process of preparing to visit Moscow in early May. I can tell you that I definitely won't be getting too drunk at local bars and bragging about being from USA (like i've done in Kiev & Minsk in years past). I love to socialize and practice my Russian with strangers but I think being outgoing and overconfident can only lead to problems now. Unfortunately I usually roll solo (don't have any friends in that region) so not to have someone to watch my back makes me a bit paranoid.
Too many locals have probably been brainwashed by the anti-west propaganda machine. So unless I know someone well I will mostly mention that I'm from "neutral country" like Canada. Perhaps _Cicero can talk about this aspect a bit more and if it's safe in bars/clubs to mention that one is from USA around the local guys?

It does seem to me like sentiment has gotten worse in the past few months, and also after big events like the Nemtsov murder (even though this shouldn't reflect poorly on America; but the Russian media has spun it like someone, maybe foreigners, tried to frame Putin). For me, so far, being American here has been a total non-issue. For the first time, however, the other day I told a girl I am American and she cooed "Oooohhh..." as if to say "the enemy!". I think the bigger worry with telling guys you are American in bars is that then they'll want to spout off about Obama, or about how biased the western media is. As I've written here elsewhere, my MO is to tell guys I'm Canadian (until you know how they'll take it) and girls I'm from "California" (even though not true). It elicits a different emotional response than "American". Only caveat to this is that I haven't been going out to do pickup that much recently, so my interactions with Russian guys are minimal, but I doubt the situation has changed so much from January. Even so, you only need one crazy drunk nationalist to make your night hell, so best to be careful in Russia...

RE: Moscow Update
I think people on here have to relax with this supposed Anti American hype in Moscow. It will be too long to explain what it is like in Russia, or how different the culture is to write on here. As long as you don't start agitating people for no reason or getting involved with the wrong crowd, you should be more safer in Moscow than you would be in any American city.

I've lived in a few different countries and some pretty bad neighbourhoods before. Moscow has higher crime than places you will find in Eastern Europe, which despite being very poor are relatively very safe. However Moscow is a very big, busy city; you have Chechens, Dagestanis, people from all over the federation living there. I genuinely don't think people will care if you are American. At best you will get some negative comments and some positive responses too but its not going to kill you.

I think in the Anglosphere there is a big emphasis on politeness but not on sincerity. Confrontation is shied away from where as in Russia, people don't have a problem saying things bluntly and telling you what they think. Its not coming from a deep seated hatred nor really a test, its just how they do things. The plus side of this is that for networking and contacts, you can rely on people over there a lot more than you could ever do in the West.

As for those wanting to go to Moscow for tourist reasons or to get girls. Personally I wouldn't get your hopes up about having one night stands or partying. The city is still expensive for clubbing and the hook up culture is just not a real thing here. People could disagree with me on this but from my own personal experience and what I have seen with countless other expats. Is that they will have multiple girlfriends if anything but they won't be having sex with random girls. By all means try, and one of the best perks off Moscow is the vast number of beautiful women you have around the place. But I was taken back by how traditional the country was, even a big city like Moscow.

@Cicero

Yes cheers I appreciate the advice, I will keep on searching, surprisingly enough there are some good studios further out; around 20 minutes from the centre. For around 35kpyb a month.

RE: Moscow Update
Here's a further update, some random thoughts. My current take is a bit more pessimistic than previous, although perhaps its a temporary mood.

The days of cheap Moscow are over. With the Ruble at 49, and 16% inflation, in real terms Moscow is now only marginally cheaper than it was last summer.

Russian women haven't really grown on me. News flash here: russian women are gold-diggers. Today, in the span of 5 minutes, I had one girl in my circle ask me to buy her a $160 bag, and another wants a new dress. Both insisted on me taking them out to eat if I want them to come over for sex. Another "borrowed" money from me and only responds to my texts if I invite her for dinner, after which she'll happily put out. In Russia, the lines between dating and prostitution become especially blurry.

Sex in Moscow for me is work and costs money, and it's not always worth the hassle and coin...

Here's a recent experience I had: I took a girl for a date in a park, bringing a bottle of cheap wine with me from the grocery store. 30 minutes in, we made out. 2 hours in, I dragged her into a bathroom in a nearby bar, pulled down her panties, and was hit with last minute resistence. After a 5 hour first date (she wouldn't crack), I took her to a fancy restaurant for lunch, and then on the third date, made her dinner. She still wouldn't put out. Finally on date 5, after logging more than 12 hours of face time, did I finally get my Ukrainian flag. However, on date 6 in a park, she declined sex, so date 7 I cancelled when something better came up. Date 8 she came directly over for sex, but she kicked up a huge fuss about me not buying the exact kind of wine she wanted (the kind I bought, I opened, and she only took a sip), insisted I ordered her a taxi to be brought to my house (what is she, a 2 year old?) and now this girl insists on me buying her a $160 bag. While some girls are easier, this was actually roughly my median experience -- other girls may hold out for months before they crack. I've still only laid 3 girls on the first date in almost 10 months here, and I think i'm at around 12-13 lays total.

To be sure, I've had some successes. I have a girl who taxis over for just sex and then leaves, and this girl even organized my first proper threesome. (All I can say is a double-blow job is at least four times as good as when one woman tries to do the work of two...) But she too can be demanding for a 6 -- she wants a trip in exchange for setting up a threesome. (Granted, there's this 22 year old Norwegian girl coming to Moscow in July who looks like a super model -- if my girl hooks that up, I'd take her for a week in f*cking Provence.)

On the whole though, I've soured on the Moscow dating scene. I probably haven't been out enough, when I have gone out I've spent time inefficiently (poorly chosen venues, etc.), and perhaps I need to try more than just Tinder and OKC (I let my RussianCupid account lapse). Also, I need to day game more, and I've also chased too many girls for too long even though the signs were there from the first date that they would withhold sex for too long. But at the moment I'm just bored to death by the prospect of meeting another gold-digging 6 or 7 from Tinder, as I can't seem to schedule many dates with 8s or 9s off the internet here... While meeting girls at bars or clubs is a bit easier here for me than in the US (here, I never have nights where I strike out completely), the normal result is that I make out with a 6 or a 7. I very much need to learn where I can meet hot women face to face. Day game? The second problem is the 8s and 9s in Moscow are even far more gold-diggerish than the 6s and 7s. Sure, they may let you smash, but you're gonna pay for it. And, in retrospect, I don't actually feel like this is a good place to be wife-hunting...

The other comment I was going to make is that while we all may love how feminine Russian girls are, this can quickly get annoying. When Russian girls will only come over if you order them a cab, since you're the man, its annoying. Since only men in Russian can have real careers, the result is that women realize that their only path to wealth is between their legs, and act accordingly. While, obviously, all Russian girls aren't gold-diggers, there's certainly a tendency... Perhaps I just need to adjust strategies, but Moscow is certainly not a pussy paradise for me.

I was laughing as I read this. Anybody who has ever dated Slavic women as I lumped the Ukrainians and Russians generally into the same boat, can relate to your experiences.
Sometimes I ask myself why do I bother with these women... just then 1 women will come along to rock my world. Not mention I'm dating younger and hotter I could ever back at home.
As I was planning another trip to Kiev my wing cancelled as he done with the drama that comes along with these women. I totally understand.

RE: Moscow Update
My friend is currently visiting Moscow. I was going to go too, but decided not to mainly because of high prices, gold diggers and just the fact that it's another big city, not really a holiday destination. Moscovites themselves try to get out as much as possible, especially when the weather is not nice (most of the year).

I'm sure it's possible to find nice, non-golddigging girls there. Another friend of mine has a harem in Moscow even though he is not rich at all. I just think it's difficult if you are there only for a week or two.

RE: Moscow Update
@Brodiaga, I agree with you. I just came back from a 1 week trip to Moscow. I got more numbers, dances, makeouts, and just great conversation there in 1 week than I do in 2 months here in USA and that is after spending really only half the week going out. The rest ended up being a crazy going out experience with a girl whom I met online. I'll move my question the newbie forum since it is not completely about travel and maybe you guys can comment on the slowish dating culture that I experienced.

RE: Moscow Update
Recent 2 weeks ago update from a gent I have known for years who has been working as a US Expat in Moscow doing tech translations for both western and Russian firms - balance of western currency and ruble based incomes...

"I'm not Brad Bitt yet I have no problem meeting RW whom want to hook up; no not for dates, for marriage. Russian women don't play games, period. These girls play for keeps (I'm talking about RW over 23 yrs old). That's why we love them, and that's why we're in this game. Sure, the average punter can up his league a notch or two, but bottom line, when you find one thats willing to give you her heart, you can bet you're getting 100% of it. That's why you MAKE the effort.

People keep saying that things have changed here in the last 10-15 years; that it's much harder now to find what you're looking for. That's BS. There are just as many women looking for a partner as there ever was, maybe more. There is also a higher percentage of RW, IMO, whom would consider a foreigner, I've met too many of them not to think this. Good quality women.

What has changed is their trust in men. Many of these women have been "misused" (for lack of a better word), by the men here. No, they don't hate men, they love men. But, in order to get to the next level with them you're going to have to show them that you can indeed, be trusted. NO small feat, for sure. You're going to have to prove that you possess the qualities necessary for her to hand over her heart.

There's a recession in Russia and people aren't buying real estate. Losing jobs is also representative of such times. Even in Moscow where RE prices have slipped, jobs have been lost, and people are looking for quick sales. Mortgages for the average Russian are incredibly hard to get now (at 14% or higher if you can get one), and people tend to tighten their belts during a recession or don't have an extra $100k+ lying around to buy a flat".

He also mentioned his Moscow bank called him in to tell he had to close his account as they would not be complying with US IRS FATCA any time soon - he was with them for nearly 9 years and his bank was not on the sanctions list - so just curious for those working in Russia how are you handling banking or being paid - everything here is via direct deposit so just wondering how any other US expats handle this issue?

Recessions aren't good for pussy...really. They saw what was good and returning to the norm, ain't what women want.
I imagine it is similar in Russia, as in Brazil.
