Immune boosters?
I've known for a long time that my immune system is sort of shitty. I would have died at age 5 without antibiotics.

If someone with the sniffles just LOOKS at me from 50 feet away, there's a good chance I'll spend a week with terrible congestion, a scratchy throat and/or zombie-level malaise.

The thing that really pisses me off about it is that I exercise regularly, wash my hands fairly frequently, eat a balanced healthy diet, get plenty of sleep and have even cut out refined sugar from my diet.

Yet I type this message feeling that I'm coming down with another cold, barely a month after I got over the last one.

I've tried lots of herbs, vitamins, and other crap but nothing seems to work. The only time that I never get sick is when the weather is extremely warm for a long time, like in the summer.

So my question is, how do I deal with this shit?

Lots of Vitamin C. Megadoses.

Zelcorpion wrote something about Orthomolecular Medicine, somewhere I believe.

Yeah - but it should best be pure or coming from a good company like Swanson, Nowfoods etc.

I have a datasheet coming on that topic.

You probably need to take a look at your diet and add sensible high-dosage orthomolecular supplements. You will experience an improvement.

It's also possible that you have some food allergies you are not aware of. There are tests out there. Most food allergies do not manifest themselves by some rash etc. - your body just has trouble dealing with those foods and it lowers your entire immune system for a while.

98% of supplements out there are either hardly effective or even slightly toxic. You have to realize that most big vitamin producers are owned by pharmaceutical companies - I found that out the hard way as I researched the ownership structure and also tested out some of their products.

Zinc, Magnesium and Vitamin C.

Since I've started taking these twice everyday since last autumn, I noticed my incidences of congestion-type colds have dropped to zero.

RE: Immune boosters?
Take vitamin D and a multivitamin all year round.

At the first sign of a cold start taking echinacea and double your vitamin D intake (just until you get better).

So my question is, how do I deal with this shit?

The reason nothing seems to works is because they don't work. Immune system boosters are a snake oil scam. I did quite a bit of reading on this awhile back and learned a lot about how the immune system works. Once you understand the science behind your immune system, you realize that anything claiming to "boost" your immune system is a lie. The only way your immune system can be improved is if you are already malnourished and you subsequently receive proper nutrition. If you already eat a balanced diet and get adequate rest, that's all you can do. I know people like you who get sick all the time, and then I know people who get a cold once every few years at most. It's their genetics.

What you have to realize is that your immune system is a delicately balanced function. If your immune system is too active, you have an auto-immune disease where your white blood cells start attacking your own body. If you aren't nutrient deficient, anything that could boost your immune system would lead to an auto-immune condition.

Airborne, vitamin C, echineacea, etc, no studies have shown that they do anything. Since these things are sold as supplements, they don't have the scrutiny that medicines do where they have to be proven under lab conditions to do what they claim. In fact, Airborne was sued a few years ago for false claims and had to change their advertising.

Best thing to do is just avoid touching your face if you haven't washed your hands. Once you leave the house and have to touch elevator buttons, gas pump handles, door knobs and all that shit, you get hundreds of people's germs on your hands. Start treating your hands like they are covered in feces. Don't pick anything up with your hands and eat it without washing thoroughly and don't rub your eyes and nose if they itch, use the back of your wrist. Obviously avoid people who are sick and being in close confines with them. That's about the best you can do.

RE: Immune boosters?
I used to get sick a lot, like every 3-4 weeks.

-The one thing that I can say has helped me is coconut oil. I started taking about 2-3 tablespoons every night before going to bed and since then I haven't been sick as often. Maybe 1 or 2 times in one year.

-If I get a cold or flu I start taking black elderberry. There's studies proving the effectiveness of black elderberry (sambucol) against viruses.

Vitamin C Crystals work too.

RE: Immune boosters?
Probiotics. Get a really good probiotic like PB-8

People don't realize this but your immune system is in your intestines. That's one reason why so many people are in bad health these days, they eat shitty foods making the bacterial system in their stomach and intestines a wasteland. The results are disease, cancer, colds, ulcers, etc.

First thing any person getting sick often should do, look at their diet, eat more fruits and vegetables and take probiotics morning and night.

RE: Immune boosters?
ZMA has kept me golden (haven't gotten sick once this Winter, and it's been pretty fucking bad this year in terms of extreme Weather) but unfortunately too much makes you copper deficient and leads to copper deficiency anemia.

Make sure you aren't taking more than 40mg of zinc per day from all sources unless you buffer your copper up which is pretty difficult to do. Luckily I found an Alive Men's multi that has 200% DV of copper to offset.

Vitamin D be careful. It's complicated but you need to keep ADK in a good ratio.

Vitamin D take 10,000 iu daily if you weigh 200lbs or more, with 100mcg Vitamin K-2 MK-7 (I recommend Vitamin Code RAW brand) and 10,000 iu of Vitamin A Retinyl Palminate if you are a poor Beta Carotene converter. Taking all of this in tandem will create synergy and prevent toxicity of the liver. Add a milk thistle capsule in daily to help your liver efficiently store up your reserves and direct each Vitamin to the proper place in the body (and not your arteries. K also helps with this.)

My mom used to make some kind of fermented garlic alcohol. Put in a shit ton of fresh garlic in a half bottle of strong vodka or rice alcohol, add salt, ginger and the spiciest fresh chilies you can find. She made me drank one spoon every fucking meal.

That shit tastes worse than the apocalypse itself. But I gotta tell you, I used to get sick if the wind blows my way, but after drinking that shit for 2 years, I've been strolling around even during flu season like a badass. I caught a cold twice since my last 4 years I think.

RE: Immune boosters?
I drink tomato juice almost daily in the winter. About a litre/ 33 Oz. a day. I make my own to control the sodium (1 can of tomato paste, potassium salt substitute, AVC, 18oz of Ice water; blend together) as the ready made stuff is full of salt. I have not been sick yet this winter since I got back on it.

The vitamin C and anti oxidants keep you healthy and well. The lycopean helps bolsten your artaries and blood cells to get nutrients around your body quicker and keep your immune system in top shape. You almost feel like you have a shield over you when spiked up with tomato juice after 2-4 weeks.

RE: Immune boosters?
I actually have the immune system of Steve Jobs when it comes to catching the cold. This year alone from September I had a cold like 4-5 times. Considering how I live it's kind of ridiculous: workout 4 times a week, in good shape, know how to count calories so I wasn't even in a deficit, eat a balanced diet with veggies, fruits, enough fats, meat, fiber etc, not that much fast food, take supplements like multivitamin, D3, omega3, ZMA. Go to saunas every once in a while, do self-massage, like to eat garlic and citrus fruits, dress warm in the winter, wash hands.

And yet I still get sick hella easy. And since my tonsils got removed, each little cold that could probably stop in the throat immidiately travels down to the lungs and becomes a full blown bronchitis. I guess I have to resign myself to this, shame really. Especially annoying since there's a 50% chance some cold sores will break out just when I'm starting to recuperate from my cold. Try gaming chicks with those bad boys under your nose/on your lips.

You learn to know your body. For me my neck is my weak point. If my neck gets cold, I get sick, so I make sure I wear a scarf always. Plus you learn when your body is just starting starting to feel off. I will attempt to nuke colds with mega doses of vitamin C. I will go all out with 7-10 gram mega doses if I can.

I also don't fuck with germs,.I don't share shit with people. Sharing drinks and shit is nasty, never understood how people do that, not how I was raised. People eat off another persons fork like its nothing then get sick. I will barley only consider it if its a girl I've been fucking and making out with but even then its rare simply out of principal.

RE: Immune boosters?
I don't post often but I saw this thread and logged in to share what helped for me. Growing up I was always sick. I finally got a referral from my doctor to see an immunologist. Most immunologists specialize in allergies but you want to find one that specializes in the immune system. She ordered blood test and it turned out I had low levels of specific immunoglobulins that are supposed to fight common bacteria. This was treated with a simple vaccine that boosted my immune system's response to these bacteria. Since then I have done much better in terms of getting sick. If you have any specific questions feel free to PM me. If your problem is with the immune system, nothing over the counter is going to solve your problems.

Check out Beta Glucans. Great stuff that I use daily. I never get sick, and the stuff is pretty cheap at 10 bucks for 90 capsules.

This is the kind I use. Beta Glucan
