I think it depends on the new traveler.

If you've got a mind for some adventure, Cambodia would be great. On the other hand, I was on the fence about bringing my mom and brothers here before Thailand because I figured Thailand would be a better entry to Southeast Asia. Wasn't a big deal - we ended up planning a strictly Cambodia trip after all.

Infrastructure is much better in Thailand, and in most places Thailand is more sanitary. Having said that, I would say there's probably more a danger of something violent happening based on a misunderstanding in Thailand, and in Phuket especially foreigners are the target of violence and other preying behavior. Of course, that can happen here too - it's more the cultural misunderstandings turning into violence that I think is a bit more likely in Thailand.

None of this is to fearmonger or persuade you from visiting either place; it's just the facts as I see them. Either would be a worthwhile experience and none of the possible pitfalls bad enough to warrant a miss.

Like anywhere in Southeast Asia, it's also possible to come through and never eat local food or do much interacting with locals outside of tourist attractions and backpacker bars, so the amount of the "adventurous" side you encounter is really up to you.

The thing I love about these videos:

It shows a bunch of top Cambodian clubs, but they're located off a small road, and on a dirt plot!

Something about that is amazing, and makes me tempted to jump the border over

I love living in Thailand but it's a well beaten path and lacks the adventure that could potentially be had in Cambodia

Glad you're digging it, Man; a few things.

1) These aren't the top clubs. haha Just your friendly neighborhood clubs.

2) Don't be so sure that can't be had in Thailand (or Laos or anywhere in SEA). Hop on a bike and head to a small city or town. Mob around on the moto at night, around 10pm onward, and keep your ear out for music.

Very nice. What setup are you using to record videos? Is it an iphone, camera, gopro, etc?

I wanted to start taking better travel videos, little tours like this, if just for my own personal use and enjoyment later on in life and was wondering what your setup is like.

He was being sarcastic since everything done so far has been done with a laid back vibe. BB promised on one vid he would be doing a nightlife at some point. There are some great nuggets within his work so far for sure.

Yeah, just taking these on a smartphone - a few different ones, some better than others. You can edit them on Youtube, but I'm going to spend more time on the newer ones editing them in moviemaker or something.

If I want to continue doing it I should probably look into getting a nice mic and real camera. At the same time, I was watching a vid by Tim Ferriss and one thing he mentioned is that spending more time on videos to make them more pro never made much of a difference for him and sometimes his quick little 5-minute vids he did in his home off-the-cuff were the ones that took off.

I think as long as the sound quality is maximized that's enough, but it depends on your purposes too.

Since you want to make them for personal use, it's really up to you and what you want to view later in your life.

I was being serous, but yeah, there hasn't been any in-depth club coverage yet. That will be tricky too because most nice clubs don't allow filming inside. Leighton was referring to a couple clubs I pointed out in my video about the emerging middle class. I only mentioned them in passing.

I will do nightlife stuff when I get this flowing again though.

My beard is coming along quite nicely aside from the greys, actually.



The SEA girls don't like hairy faces much, and mine keeps bugging me to shave it.

"As soon as you hit the gym for 2 weeks straight," I told her. She told her friends I said that and they all laughed.

Nah. Just haven't been set up very well for editing. Laptop broke down and haven't gotten a new one yet. Picked up a cheap desktop to hold me over, but it has been really slow, so will probably pop in there sometime next week to get a decent laptop again and then it'll be easier to do more vids.

I've still been filming here and there so have some footage to organize.

Looking good! My laptop is acting up too, I get it, have a new keypad ordered from China so I have to do surgery on it when parts get here.

I had to shave mine off due to the grey, little on the head, a bunch in the beard. hope all remains well for you there.

^ Why not just color the greys?

People harp on men dyeing, but it's a less extreme cosmetic move than shaving, if you think about it.

I typically have them color up my hair when I go get a cut. Haven't decided with the beard yet but should probably pick one or the other and match it.

I don't worry too much about greys or looking older but I figure I've got a young enough face that I might as well enjoy it while I can. And I don't try to keep it some big secret or something like some guys do.

When I get a bit older I'll embrace the greys more. I started getting them in my early 20s though.
