Isn't this a ghetto area of Nairobi? I stayed in an area called Lavington when I last went. The place was so up-scale the neighbour had an eagle and a few more exotic birds.
If Nairobi wasn't the capital, I would suggest avoiding it entirely and just going Mombasa, which has a beach.
