Nope, was very tempted to be a PJ in the Airforce but went to college instead.

Lately I've been heavily considering going into one of the U.S. branchs as an officer.

Considering Surface Warfare Officer in the navy but everyone seems to complain how much it sucks.

Really stumped on what else I should do in life right now.

I have brothers, cousins and uncles who have served in the Marines, Army, Air force, reserves you name it.

I was going to join myself but my brothers talked me out of it.

What did they say to talk you out of it?

I now kind of wish I went in at 18. I could still join the air force. They're now taking enlistees up to 39.

You could still be a PJ in the Air Force as a Combat Rescue Officer. I just met a PJ O-3 the other day at my gym.

No; I did apply for the US Navy despite the constant barrage of gay stereotypes from an Army brat I personally knew back in high school.

The fact I was (and still am) clinically obese and not to mention my drained-by-puncture knees are not doing me favors either way.

RE: Have you ever served in the military?
My 3 years enlistment was in the US Army during Kennedy's time, after that I went back to college on the GI Bill. A very good deal.

Learned Russian at the Army Language School in Monterey, CA, then served at Ft. Meade, MD and worked as a Russian translator for NSA. That was my first decent job, and it was fascinating.

NSA had Spanish translators monitoring Cuba. In fall 1962, they started intercepting lots of radio chatter in Spanish with funny accents. We figured out the accents were Russian. Surprise, it was their missile crews talking! Until then we had no clue of any missiles in Cuba.

In those days we Americans had loads of nuclear missiles in Turkey pointed at Russia. The Russians only wanted to get even. Fortunately, Kennedy made a deal with Krushchev to remove our missiles from Turkey if they would first remove the Soviet missiles from Cuba. Now 50 years later, various fools want us to send weapons to the Ukraine.

I would do it again in a heart beat... best mates I can count on even now.
Yeah I've been divorced like most blokes.

Question is did you Pogue (POG) your time or Arms unit there is a difference..just saying.Redpill blue pill mean fuck all in an Infantry section (squad) nor what sport you play ....nothing....I've seen the biggest loud mouth bloke be soft as shit and a little 58kg dude .be hard as fuck carrying more than his body weight...My whole perception on judging men by their looks changed...I just don't do it..not since I was 19..the army taught me that...It's about heart and your mates matter more than you.And never ever go Jack on your mates.
And the greatest thing another soldier can say to you over a beer is 'I'd go to war with you cunt'

That is amazing. I was in first grade then! I remember it well, all our parents were worried.

Me - 10 years active, 15 reserve, enlisted and officer. I did a few different things.

Affirm. USMC ('03-'07, 2x to sandbox) 0331 served in a west coast Infantry Battalion in the high desert of CA. As much as it sucked there -boy was it a rough duty station, I actually really miss it. Twentynine Palms was truly the Wild West -some of the locals would ride horses to the bars, just drive off the side of the road and shoot your guns, bar fights, dirt bikes, off roading, it was just a place for rough men.

Some of the funniest shit I've seen in my life happened here, the down side was the shitty combat tours in Iraq.

Five and a half years, USAF Air Traffic Control. I wanted to cross train into Combat Control, but my paperwork was taking forever and it just so happened to fall in the time frame Obama's administration was making all sorts of budget cuts and I fell through the cracks, getting separation paperwork. Would've stayed in given the chance.

Military service has been abolished here, but I wouldn't have been able to serve due to some health problems anyway. I don't think I missed much. The kind of neatness and sense of purpose/order that military service instills in some people was already present in me.

USMC, still in. Iraq 09 (lots of fun), Afghanistan 10-11 (best times, worst times).

I reupped solely because I was in the middle of a lengthy divorce and had an opportunity to be stationed where I am. I don't regret it because it got me to where I am, but I can't wait to get out. The peacetime Marine Corps is just no bueno. If I could go back and do things differently I'd probably have joined as soon as I finished high school instead of working at casinos and on a cruise ship.

It depends. A lot of military guys see themselves as beta on the inside (with the constant taking of orders and "yes ma'am, yes sir") but alpha on the outside (the respect people have in the civilian world for those who serve).

Did you know military service doesn't always involve a machine gun and a flamethrower in your hands?
