I actually dated a Ukrainian Girl who was living in Florida with her sister working in a resort. We dated for around a year and while she was fluent in English the conversations were absent at dinner. She was stoic and did not appreciate my humor too much. She laughed at odd things and had a way of making a farting sound with her mouth to express something that didn't matter.

To be honest I miss her quite a bit. A first the long silences were disturbing and I would fill in the gaps with nonsense and she made sure she let me know that it was nonsense. She wouldn't play mind games at all and put me in my place when I tried to start shit. Looking back I think that was the healthiest relationship I have ever had.

She's in Lviv now and I look forward to seeing her when I visit Ukraine. I probably trusted her more than any other girl I have ever dated.

I can defiantly relate to what you say about there personality being quiet and not exactly on the creative side but I think there has to be some real gems looking for a good guy over there.

The Baltics and Poland are on my list as well. Ill shoot you an email when I get there. Im with you I enjoy conversation and being playful so English is defiantly important. Thanks for your opinion I value it!

Ok let’s sum up a few points:

You are 40yo, looking mid 30s, you want to move longterm to EE, you have money to spend and you like to show it, you want a safe environment, you don’t mind to learn a new language

In my opinion the best city for you as a base would be Kiev. You could learn russian ( after 3 months of living and studying hard you will be able to hold a basic conversation) Russian gives you access to the whole former Soviet Union. What‘s the point of learning Polish, Czech or Hungarian, as they have most english speakers anyway.

Of course in the beginning you are pretty much limited to English speakers in Ukraine. In Kiev it would not be much of an issue though. Staying longterm in Kiev, having time will yield into much better results than many short term visitors here report. Ukraine/Russia does not have a ONS culture. As I recently read all Colombia threads it’s similar to Medellin – you need to date. Actually I planned to leave for a year to Colombia in May, however I have changed my mind and will spent the summer in Ukraine/Russia first.

In can assure you that Kiev is a 100% safe city – in 3 months I never had a single incident. A nice benefit: the crashed UAH makes living in Kiev crazy cheap right now and even Russia much more affordable than before.

Polish/Czech girls are definately much nicer – however I think in Poland the age difference thing is not in your favour. In Ukraine dating 20yo girls wouldn’t be a problem. Also food sucks – I agree. But EE in general is not known for having the best cuisine.

Good stuff TV thanks for the heads up on Kiev. Question why Kiev over Odessa being that there seems to be more Russian spoken in Odessa from what I read as far as learning the language? What percentage of 20-35 year old Ukrainian Women would you say speak conversational English? Have you visited Lviv? I have read that its very pretty with a cafe culture and could be the next Prague. Any truth to that you can see?

Frankly Ukraine is sounding very similar to Medellin however I would have a hard time imagining a country with less English skills then Colombia especially Medellin.

Yes without a doubt I will be learning Russian, my time in medellin would be not be the same experience if I hadn't learned Spanish. The girls in Medellin while very cute and feminine personalities can be limited in there experience so expect Ground Hog Day when dating, same questions, same girl every day. I like to keep myself amused by trying to guess what will come out of there mouth next. I do pretty well at this actually. I would say English level in Kiev is around 30% conversational 40% basic 20% none. It's not so easy to determine. My therory is that a visitor who is able to open girls in Russian and then switches to English is able to identifly many more English speakers than sbd who opens in English solely. Asking girls if they speak English many just say no because they think their English is not good enough, they simply don't want to make the effort to speak it or they think you are a sex tourist and don't want to talk to you.

Lviv I have heard is a quite nice city, however it's in west ukraine where people speak ukrainian. I did not visit Odessa yet ( I think Roosh must be expert for Odessa now), but I plan to go this summer. However all people I met told me that Odessan girls are the most spolied in the entire country, due to the heavy sex and love tourism there.

Medellin possibly has the nicest weather in the world so no comparison in that sense but yup pretty much on target with the others.

Something to add on the ONS cuture or lack there of in Medellin. In 2012 when I fist touched ground I was staying in an aparthotel nothing fancy and managed to bang somewhere in the neighbor hood of 16 to 20 women mostly ONS. I had a system that I have not duplicated since, basically taking them to the same small bar, escalating quickly and inviting them up to my place before I sent them home in taxi to Learn Bachata. Its defiantly doable with good Spanish skills and good energy. Now I havent had a ONS in a month and it usually takes three dates or longer to get them back to the apartment even though I understand the culture and am more generous with where I take the girls to dinner and paying for taxis and what not then I was in 2012. If your interest is rental income, Budapest property has excellent ROI via airbnb. You would need local help and competent management to make it happen, but for a europan capital, that city makes most sense from an investment/rental income perspecitve.

I like to buy property overseas for a few reasons.

1. Its a good hedge against a falling dollar. I was priced out of Rio real estate because when property was reasonable and the brazil Real was 4 to 1 things were affordable. Not its 2.5 to 1 and prices are sky high. I dont want to get priced out of Europe by a falling dollar even though the Dollar has been rallying as of late. I dont claim to be a expert by any means and it sure looks like its a big race to the bottom with everyone devaluing there currency but it still makes me feel good owning property overseas.

2. Its a fun investment. Buying property overseas is interesting. I spend alot of time online looking at property and its an adventure.

3. Renting short term sucks. I use Airbnb all the time and truthfully I dislike it. Its always some problem. Noisy street or the place is dirty. I like having my own sheets and matresses wherever I am going to live.

4. Buying property ensures I will spend time there and get my ass out of the machine we call the good old USA. Dont get me wrong the opportunities I was given by having a US passport have been amazing but I like many on this forum recognize that the lifestlye in the states is not great in many ways.

I was in Budapest, I thought the city was beautiful, girls were strange, gyms I didnt care for. Could have just been me, I had been traveling for awhile at that point and was tired perhaps. Dated a few Women there but nothing that caught my eye like Prague, Bucharest or Barcelona.

As far as the rentals in Budapest, Im not so sure, I think that was one of the cheapest cities to rent on airbnb that I was at. I would question ROI in Budapest. Worth another look though

If you decide to be in Bulgaria, you'd have to split your time between the beach in May-September, and Sofia the rest of the time. Which means buying two apartments if you really insist on having your own place.
And the one in Varna will be hard to rent out just for the winter months.

K-man what city if any do you think still has vacation rental potential in the winter time in EE? I was thinking Prague would probably be the easiest and best ROI. Do you see any other cities mentioned in this post as Vacation rental income potential even in the Winter?

Haven't been on the site in awhile but thought I would do a quick update. After a massive search for the perfect 6 months vacation home in Europe the winner is the French Riviera. About 10 minutes outside Nice France. Love it there. Bought a small apartment. Checked a total of around 15 european cities before landing in Nice and it is by far the most interesting area in Europe for me. I would say in reflection Vienna would be my second choice, possibly Porto, Portugal and Granda Spain third and forth place

If you get a chance in the near future I still think many of us would be happy to read a data sheet of yours on building a small property rental income empire both in the U.S., abroad, property management insights and so on.

I know there is the Medellin property data sheet, I am thinking of one more general on how you set up your work life, business, properties etc to get to the point you are at now.

You definitely live a very enviable lifestyle that seems to generate income in a very passive manner vs. running an online business and putting in the long hours to be location independent & lucrative.

In fact your posts in general have had me consider whatever money I make I'd like to get a remote job that is lucrative and go try my hand at rental properties wherever the best market is at the time for ROI to build up that second stream of income.

Actually my rental properties overseas are not making much of a profit so far. I have been lazy and inconsistent and haven't put much time into finding the best way to improve return on investment.

The business that I have in Florida is a small service business that I started about 14 years ago.

My advice to anyone is go to work for another company that provide some sort of service in an area with high income earners.

Learn how to sell that service and train in the sales end of the business. If you want you can learn the service end of it as well and the installation and of it as well but don't let that side track you from learning how to sell the product.

Once you feel comfortable that you can sell the product quit your job make sure that your professional license is set, work out of your garage, print yourself a bunch of contracts, find one guy who wants to do the installation and go sell the day that you quit your other job.

Keep your overhead low do not go into debt. As you grow the company always remember to put yourself first and pay yourself first. Do not grow the company in hopes of selling it 10 years from now because that may never happen. Put the money in your pocket as you make it. Treat your customers like gold and they will refer you to other people. It's extremely difficult to find competent service companies in California and Florida in my opinion. Work your ass off. Work Saturdays and Sundays. Enjoy the competition and enjoy destroying the competition.

When you grow large enough higher sales staff and retire to Colombia, Thailand or Europe.
