Has anyone ever quit a high-paying job to travel with no set plans to return? What were your experiences like? Any major highlights/regrets?

Yes I do it every year for the past four, its great, I just show back up and am like "yo fuckers, I"m here to work" and they put me back to work every time, except this time it may be a bit more difficult since oil has tanked so much but I"m sure I'll find something and if its really that bad then I"m fucking off somewhere cheap to wait it out for a few more months, I may not work in 2015!

I am mulling this over myself. I am trying to downsize everything, possibly sell my house and start a trade business. Getting closer everyday and few people around me are willing to bless it. My wife doesn't care she got my back 115%.

This year will be the framework year and getting set up. Next year I hope to quit these jobs and contract work. There is no future for what I do. The cloud has killed much of it and it will only get worse. I hope I can give IT the finger next year. I'm tired of the circus.

I took unpaid leave for 10 months and got back to work after at the end of 2011. Could not give up a very cheap house I have and a good paying job. Back now to educate myself more but I will go abroad indefinitely for sure in 1-2 years.

Regardless, the time spent in those 10 months were the best months of my life, it's awesome and you should travel as much as you can.

Thanks guys. To put it in context I'm 27 and since graduating college haven't taken more than 2 weeks off at a time. I have entered the Office Space Peter Gibbons zone where work has become a farce, though the job pays six figures and now have well into the six figures of savings with no debt. My life outside of work is great but the daily grind has taken a toll. The only real thing holding me back is a gf who I see a future with and our families would frown upon me taking a one-way ticket to travel the world...

I actually went when I was 29.
The only thing that might hold you back is the gf then. You have the perfect age (can learn a lot), plenty of cash and you've never taken a while off. It's a big world waiting to be explored..

I think the only regret you'll have is not going on your trip. If your gf doesn't support you now in doing what you want to be happy, she's not going to support you later.

Don't let this girl and her family hold you back from doing what you want to do. Imagine turning 40 and having a mid-life crisis, being married to her with 2 kids and having never traveled the world. You're going to regret it at some point.

Why don't you start out with a 6-8 week trip and then see how you feel? If you want to keep going after that then do it; if not, then go home and get another job. If this girl won't wait 6 weeks for you, she's not a keeper anyway. I think after 6 weeks, if you're doing it right, you'll want to keep going.

Don't worry about finding another job; you're 27 and making 6 figures, so you are most likely skilled enough to get a similar job elsewhere.

I quit my dead-end mind-numbing cubicle job over a year ago and moved to Amsterdam. I'm now 28 and back in university for a second degree and it was the best decision I have ever taken. And just Thaitanium said, I'll be back abroad (hopefully for good) as soon as I graduate, I don't plan on working for the man ever again.

If you worried about a gf or her parents, you have issues that have nothing to do with travel. Is the redpill stuck in your throat? Better get some water to drink before it is too late.

Also, you better go alone on this trip. Leave her ass here. I left plenty pussy and gfs in the US on the table before I left the first time and I have zero regrets about it. Chances are very high, whatever you think is so great about that girl is probably worthless compared to whatever else you are capable of getting outside the country.

Agreed on both posts. Travelling is the best anyway. Opening up to meet other people from other cultures. Learn about them and about yourself. If the girl is truly a keeper she will be waiting for a few weeks. If not or if she does not want you to go, then that says it all too.

Thanks for the advice and encouragement guys. Getting closer to making the leap by the day. My top places for travel are southeast Asia, eastern Europe, Scandinavia, and Africa. Would love to meet up with RVF members all around the world and build this great community even further. PM me if interested.

In the meantime, it's fashion week and NBA all star weekend in NYC with 0 degree wind chills. Time to unwind.
