The female obsession with materialism has always fascinated me.

As man I like nice things, as do I'm sure many of us here. But with so many women it's an absolute obsession, going beyond any biological instinct towards resource allocation.

There was an article on HuffPo the other day (won't link, not worth reading anyway) about a woman who resented that she made more than her husband (looked like she could've been cute when she was younger, she's a middle aged hog now).

But beyond that, I've heard ex-gf's friends (and female associates) talk about their husbands, and their biggest complaint is always about money, and the resentment in their voice is astounding.

With so many women, it's not even how much money the guy makes, more "what will you buy for me?" Again, this has nothing to do with providing resources, just pure materialism. I've seen friends go into debt for engagement rings, spend ridiculous amounts on presents, Valentine's Day and such. It would be one thing if it were reciprocated in some way, but it's not. All to keep a mediocre chick content (note I said 'content' not 'happy').

It's just another characteristic of women that is accepted in our culture, even celebrated (i.e. in shows like Sex In The City).

It's also another total contradiction that women are taught from a very young age by our culture.

Every woman is beautiful, including the giant fat hog and the bitter old spinster. But judging women on looks is sexist and misogynistic.

Women are independent and don't need a man for money. But give them all your money and credit.
