Did you marry the single mom before or after finding this forum?

How did you set up the prenupt and the pre-marriage legalities? What were the factors and conditions that made it hard for her or the judge to overturn? I'm just surprised you got out of it intact, especially since she had a kid. Did they try to trap you into child support?

Start listening to Tom Leykis, read Krauser's story which is somewhat similar and very inspiring, and most of all get to know you and appreciate yourself to the point where you wont give it away so easily again.

Definitely go travel. But also learn how to create your ultimate lifestyle, in your daily life, to get the most enjoyment in life. Learn how to approach women everywhere, have lots of girlfriends, take care of yourself, create an awesome home, get more friends, and be the best independent version of yourself. Its not as easy as it sounds if you have never done it, or havent lived that way in years. It may take you a few years to get there. You will never have that giving away your hard earned time and money to someone elses baggage. Learn now how to take care of yourself, and put yourself first in all that you do.

*gulp* Yes I married her after finding this forum. This forum was in its infancy, I think in those days, and didn't really use it much at all.

The thing is, although I was aware of the game and played it some, got laid some, I craved connection with another human being. I felt like I wasn't really happy doing serial dating or even dating multiple girls at the same time. I wanted more. I felt isolated and wanted a connection. That's the way we humans are wired, I guess.

But yeah, I put my hand in the fireplace and got burned. Being alone and craving a connection isn't all that bad if I can actually go out, travel, and meet people and get laid with some nice looking chicks here and there. I would very much rather have that than ruin my life over some bitch way past her physical peak.

For some guys, being on both sides of the coin was necessary for them to learn. I'm one of them.

EDIT: As for the prenup and legalities and child support, a lot depends on what state you're in. Texas is a community property state, so when you marry, everything you own and owe become community property and when you divorce, you split 50/50. My prenup outlines what is separate property before, during, and after marriage, like retirement accounts for example. Those won't be touched. Same with debts in one's own name (e.g. student loans), those also stay separate. Regarding child support, Texas law says no child support for stepchildren unless I adopted them as my own - which I didn't. Since the stepkid already is under a joint custody agreement / shared parenting plan, there will be no child support from any parties involved, least not me.

Dont be too hard on yourself. You gave it your best shot. One of the dangers of marriage is the thrill of sex fades to a soft glow. Some people literally cant handle that fact. Probably most people are miserable in marriage but some value what they have achieved together more than the urge to throw it all away for pussy or cock.
Now if someone is going crazy for some strange, there are ways to scratch that itch without shitting the bed. Women particularly dont seem to be able to do that. They get all attached and blow everything to bits with emotions.

I've been told by psychologists that one of the things that messes up the children of single mothers is having their mother's boyfriends and/or husbands come in and out of their lives.

For the kids, the problem is not so much not having a dad around -- although that's not ideal -- but the feeling that adults can suddenly disappear and that there is no stability in life and no one they can depend on.

A few years on, this makes for distrustful angry teens and eventually adults. Hence a lot of the dysfunction and erosion of community we've seen in America since the 1970s. It all starts with the (lack of) family.

When your ex cheated on you and basically pushed you out of her life, she probably messed up her son's life more than she did yours. And you can bet that will get worse considering the men she'll have passing through her kids life in the future.

You know I can't think of any media or movies that really cover it from this angle. It's always mom is a super-hero for taking on the heroic struggle of raising her kids, she's just as much a victim as the children, and dad is gone because he was an irresponsible lout who's the source of all this pain.

We never get to see the human side of the story of what it's like for kids to grow up in a household where mom's single because she pulled a Jenny Erikson and frivorced a perfectly good husband and father.

We never get to hear about what it's like for boys to see a parade of men come in and out of their lives as newly-divorced mom revels in her newfound singlehood. Or what it's like for boys to hear about "how bad men are" from their mother each time her relationships falter, before she moves on to the next guy in line.

I grew up in a single-mother house hold for most of my childhood, and after a while I learned you shouldn't bother getting too attached to whoever the current boyfriend was. Odds were pretty good he wouldn't be around for long anyway.

You know, I really feel for the kid. He's 10 now, and is starting to figure out the score for himself. This is gonna affect him for a long time, and I feel terrible for him.

You're not starting over. Starting over would be if you got divorce raped, lost most assets,and on top of that were looking at huge alimony payments, something that happens to thousands of men your age every year.

Excellent thread, so many insights from posters like The Father, this is why I haven't given up on RVF and continue to read and post on here.

I don't know why some guys are trying to knock the OP, sure he made some mistakes in the game, but he's only human and human's make mistakes. Just because he was/is a member of this forum doesn't mean he should be immune from feelings such as lust and love, and the innate human desire to connect with a member of the opposite sex.

I think there may have been some glaring red flags like the "single mom thing", but for those of us who have fallen for a female, a lot of times logic and reason get thrown to the wayside. The idea here is to live and learn and try not to make the same mistakes again, I'm sure the OP learned a lot from this experience, sometimes for a guy to truly take the red pill he has to have life shove it down his throat.

I'm only 30% through the Rational Male book (kindle version), and oh man you guys, it's as if this guy had been watching my life unfold the entire time! And then re-telling that story to me!

I've come full circle, going from a typical AFC to a PUA community using patterns and routines, got some results only based on outer game (to say nothing of inner game however), and then got sick of being a social robot, drifted to "just being myself", got married and wanted to believe that the blue pill-ers are correct (or went into game denial)... and then BAM! Here I am now.

I can't remember who recommended this book to me, but I owe him a beer.
