Not only they had to re-book big part of the show almost on the fly, but also had to change their mid-term direction.

That's different. He did that openly. Austin wasn't nice to your face, and then stab you in the back. Austin is a genuine motherfucker and other wrestlers respect that.

Austin refused to lose to Brock because Brock was a newbie at the time. Austin was protecting his value.

Austin also he claimed he didn't want to put over Lesnar unceremoniously on Raw- as it was 'bad business' without any sort of build (i.e. feuding leading up to a ppv to draw buys).

Almost forgot this fact..but some of my relatives around here once owned an ethnic supermarket with herbs, ointments, and natural treatments.

Whenever Ric Flair came into town on a wrestling tour, he would stop by that supermarket & take pictures with my extended family. A class act off the stage as well.

I still can't get over that video with Jay Lethal and Flair having the Woo off. Flair looks incredulous when Lethal is imitating him. It's hilarious.

I also find it hysterical that Flair has the trademark of taking off his cloths and dropping atomic elbows on his sports coats.

"I'm cutting you off"!

"Oh you can't cut me off"!

"You're cut off! Woo"!

It was like the "woo" was the end of the conversation.

We were meant for far more than to suffer in our self created prisons only to die alone. It doesn't have to be that way. It never did.

RE: Ric Flair, is Awesome/Appreciation Thread
I read Flair's book several years ago. It was a fun read.

http://amzn.com/0743491815

He was definitely a player even from his teenage years. He fucked older women when he was in high school.

I was especially intrigued by his rivalry with Ricky Steamboat. Steamboat was always my favorite, but I was never aware of how many classic battles they'd had.

He told he was initially trained by Verne Gagne. Part of the training was two wrestlers would pair up. One would put the other in a fireman's carry and carry him several flights of stairs. Then he would carry him back down. Then they would switch places.

Jim Cornette once pointed that he didn't see Flair with that many women, but he always had "high quality" women.

"Sit down and take it 'cause it's the best. Wooooooo."

RE: Ric Flair, is Awesome/Appreciation Thread
I always loved it when Flair's buddy Arn Anderson would say at the end of an interview:

"As always, Tony Schiavone, it was YOUR pleasure."

When Vince McMahon lured Flair away from the NWA, McMahon just told him to go out there and be Ric Flair. He knew Flair's schtick worked well for him and didn't mess with it at all.

If you believe your own bullshit, lots of other people will, too.

RE: Ric Flair, is Awesome/Appreciation Thread
I have to say that in many ways Diamond Dallas Page is the most impressive wrestling persona during my years. He started his career in WCW as manager (I think he was in night club business before) and nobody was thinking he could make it big. But he became a huge star during hottest WCW years ever. Plus, he was banging Kimberly Page during her prime.

And after his wrestling career was over not only he didn't go wrong path like so many others, but he did what always wanted to do - he became a motivational speaker and created a "DDP Yoga", saving Jake "The Snake" Roberts and Scott Hall lifes in process.

Very inspirational career by master of "The Diamond Cutter".

It's worth mentioning that in some way Ric Flair hated DDP - Flair was old school and for him to create a good match it was enough to prepare the most important moments and he could improvise during rest of them. DDP planned his matches from the start to the end, all spots. Two different styles, but it worked well for both of them, as DDP was a very solid worker in late 90's, for example his matches against Hogan were watchable (not an easy task to achieve with Hulkster).

Kimberly Page was the first person I ever masturbating to. She came on tv wearing a sheer dress, and her nipples were visible. Too bad it was before youtube.

I tried jacking off before but didn't realize you could bust a nut, so I didn't get what the big deal was. When I figured it out though, I was friggin' mind blown! Laugh

Thanks Kimberly.

Haha. How did the "you suck" chant even become popular? Kurt Angle was a good wrestler, so I'm sure it wasn't because of his wrestling ability.

It's because he played such an awesome bad guy.

It started when he was in a story line with Stone Cold Steve Austin and Angle was the heel(bad guy). When he was cutting a promo, the crowd chanted "you suck" and then Angle would say "what?" which was Stone Cold catch phase at the time, and then the crowd would get hyped up and say "you suck" even louder. And then they just start doing every time he come out to his entrance music.

Laugh I think it had more to do with the fact that he was a heel for most of his career and embraced that position very well. Although you would think that him being introduced as an American hero, and an Olympic gold medalist he would be appropriate as a face wrestler, but his character was arrogant and constantly reminded people of his "Olympic glory" and dissed fans all the time. Fans ate it up.

Here he is getting pissed at the "You Suck" chants.

Classic. The Teddy Long era of Smackdown had some of the best plot lines and superstars. The current Smackdown is terrible.

Apparently this is the first time fans chanted it during his music, but like the description in the video says, I always though Edge started it, not Stone Cold.

I remember being in middle school in the late 90s and all the guys were running around doing Triple H's "Suck it!!" move Laugh We thought we were so cool back then. I kinda miss those good ol' days of wrestling. A lot of cool shit was going on in that era.

Good times...

What I liked about Kurt Angle was that he was a very good heel and he was equally a good face as well. There's guys who can't do both equally good and Kurt did.

My other favorites are Chris Benoit, Eddy Guerrero, Kurt Angle and Scott Hall.

R.I.P. Chris Benoit. He was one of my favorites as well alongside Steve Austin and Kane. (Back when he had the mask and was actually scary)

But this is interesting and I'm not sure I agree. Among guys who made it big in 80's and 90's I would say he was the most likeable guy, the most willing to look opponent good in matches and ready to lose to them in fashion which was good to business. Guys like Hogan, Warrior, Shawn Michaels were really uncooperative, even if Michaels was amazing wrestler too.

Compare it to Hogan and his backstage politics before WCW Starcade 1997, which ultimately was beginning of the end for them.

I don't have time to look them up right now but Mitch Foley, Shane Douglas, and Scott Steiner have all criticize his backstage politics.

I would say the fingerpoke of doom, david arquette winning the wcw championship, and misusing some really good talent was the undoing of wcw(remember mike awesome the fat chick thrilla and riding around in the 70s bus?). making kevin nash the booker and having him put all of his friends over was not exactly good for business either. They gave out too many fat contracts that they really couldnt afford and could not stay in business.

Diamond dallas page was critical of ric flair's politics as well. Scott steiner started to get really popular in the early 1990s, he had a match for the wcw title at one of the clash of the champions and ric flair tried to really sandbag the match to make sure it didn't go well. i don't remember what problems foley had with flair. I will say this: all of the wrestling champions wanted to stay on top to get a bigger payday more than anything. if you are in the main event of a wrestlemania or starcade, you will get paid more, so they didn't want to give that up, as someone else mentioned, hogan, nash, michaels, warrior, were all difficult to work with and didn't like doing jobs.

I like Angle a lot too. The best wrestlers can do both. Ric Flair, The Rock, CM Punk. All these guys are great on the mic so they can get the crowd to react how they want.
