To me the thing that doesn't gel with that is his reticence to return her passport. There can't be any reason he'd still want her in the US - the only rationale I can think of for that position is because he doesn't want her to run with a daughter that's biologically his. If it's his daughter, the reticence to return the ex's passport is explainable; if it's not his daughter, why would he give a shit? If he wants to maintain The Masquerade, better form to move on quick-smart to another twentysomething than try and play the divorced single father.

I don't get all this talk about being gay and beards with respect to actors. It would make sense with someone like Clooney or Renner if they were politicians maybe, but they are actors.

If any of these guys came out of the closet tomorrow I doubt their careers would be noticeably harmed. Especially not in the long run. Hell, in some ways I am surprised they haven't faked being gay to get some bumps to their publicity after a movie flops.

Being gay is the new black these days. At first I thought that maybe, especially with Clooney, it might hurt their image with women but look at some of the other actors who are openly gay and still get huge responses from women fans. The dude who played Spock in the last few Star Trek remakes is gay, and he was on Heroes too, and he has a huge female following. They write gay fanfiction about him.

Now, it might make a bit more sense with Clooney or Cruise seeing how they often play action heroes for a mostly male audience but still. Hell, even if they did lose money due to that reason they would probably make it up very quickly by simply becoming a figure head for some gay oriented leftist cause...which they all seem to do in Hollywood anyways.

That's a recent development and most major actors have been established since it would have been a career ruining move. Maybe Travolta and Cruise aren't actually gay, but a lot of people are absolutely convinced they are.

Can you imagine this with normal contracts though? Businesses contracting to trade specific work under specific terms for a specific price, and judges just randomly throwing out the contracts and modifying them from the bench? The commercial world would be in chaos.

It's fucking ridiculous that a man and woman can agree on terms for a marriage, and then when they have a conflict, the agreement doesn't apply. That's the whole purpose of an "agreement". I hope they enforce this one to the letter.

Perhaps the courts should offer declaratory judgements, so men can present their prenup, ask "you douchebags are going to enforce this right?", and get a clear and binding "yes we will" response.

It comes down to frequency. In the commercial world where I'm from courts will rarely overturn provisions of contracts that they don't see as fair despite the terms of the agreement being explicit.

This seems to happen most in cases of employment contracts, where the image is always the big employer overbearing the small employee. A similar stereotype drives the thinking here I would guess. Some legal niceties and buzzwords such as "unconscionable" and "equity" come into it, but ultimately it comes down to the court taking one person's side over the other because of perceived imbalance in the contractual relationship.


In that sense it's hair-tearingly frustrating when it comes to pre-nups, then: the court intervenes on the woman's part because it's operating on an old image of the woman as tiny, powerless, and unable to look after herself because of the kid hanging off her tit.

I'll follow up with this story. It appears that Renner and his ex are slinging mud as the divorce proceedings heat up.

Recently Renner had his "roommate" come to his defense. His "roommate" said that Renner's wife is an unfit mother and even contemplated abortion multiple times. His "roommate" also insists that Pacheco only married Renner for his green card.

But he'll never play the action hero or romantic love interest opposite a woman in a serious main role. It won't sell. Straight women would not buy him as a love interest because they put themselves in the role of the woman, and they know hes gay!

I just don't understand the logic in thinking that coming out would increase someones ability to get work. If it were true, actors would be tripping over themselves coming out just to get more work! It's the opposite, it limits them. Why do you think actors shoot down gay rumors all the time?
