They say you "only get one shot" with a woman, and that's the rule and tough shit. Personally I don't believe in rules, not ones like that anyway.

When I was in college I had a little bombshell after me. I was too much of a pussy at the time to act on it, and now I find myself chatting to her online again after about 4 years.

I'm quite different now and of course, working on improvement. What are you guys' opinions on this kind of thing? A few years later, more confidence, and so on. Do I have to do some kind of "proving myself" game to break down whatever conceptions she might have, or is it the kind of thing I can rely on my own self to prove through my actions/communication? Dismantling the image, so to speak.

I had a similar experience in high school.

Who contacts whom more often? Who initiated communication? Has she tried to set up a date?

Basically, what's her interest level? Use that and calibrate.

Sounds like every girl I didn't bang in high school but banged afterwards. I've got a stringer of those.

I think the one shot rule applies when you really blow it with a girl. Outside of that there is some leeway. If it was years ago and you were just too much of a pussy to act on it I don't think that really counts as really blowing it. I wouldn't say she was an "almost" girl, unless there is more to it than you are telling. As long as you didn't tarnish her image of you in her mind beyond that of a guy who just never pursued her you can get away with it. The one shot rule would apply if you had pursued her and made an ass of yourself.

Forget proving yourself. You are just overanalyzing the interaction.

Assuming you actually have balls and game now, just proceed like you would with any other girl.

Keep it simple.

Short Game - ask her out now
Mid Game - beat around the bush, show more of yourself, ask her out
Long game - don't do anything until you're 100% certain that she'll say yes.

I think the Short Game is the answer. You've got to be willing to take the L and move on. If she says yes, cool. If she balks, you walk - end the conversation with her permanently.
