AirAsia flight from Indonesia to Singapore missing
Quote:An AirAsia flight travelling from the Indonesian city of Surabaya to Singapore has lost contact with air traffic control, the company has said.

Indonesian media say 162 people were on board.

The aircraft, flight number QZ8501, lost contact with air traffic control just after 07:00am local time, AirAsia tweeted.

The company said that search and rescue operations were under way for the missing plane.

An official with the transport ministry, Hadi Mustofa, told local media the plane lost contact over the Java sea, which lies between Surabaya and Singapore.

Could be for any reason, but if I were to take a guess it would be something having to do with this:

I'm about to leave for a flight on a Singapore based airline. I don't need this right now.

Dammit. Air Asia has some of the hottest stewardesses.

We were meant for far more than to suffer in our self created prisons only to die alone. It doesn't have to be that way. It never did.

I'm always a bit uneasy about using discount airlines.

Missing children reports often have happy endings. I don't think the same for missing airplane reports.

Yea this plane is not "missing" like a pet might be missing.

This is "missing" like the Titanic is "missing".

Ironically, Air Asia is a discount airline that...is rather expensive these days...then this shit happens

AirAsia is owned by Malaysia Airlines, isn't it?

They're on a roll this year.

No, but they are a Malaysian airline based out of Kuala Lumpur.

As an airline employee I can assure you discount airlines are equally safe as expensive ones. They are held to the same safety standard in the country in which they operate. If they operate internationally, those flights must meet even higher international standards.

Only difference between a discount airline and any other one is the level of service provided.

Ouch, poor people. Is the sea around Indonesia and Singapore becoming the new Bermuda Triangle?

Unfortunate as hell. I have flown AirAsia a lot and they are great for what you pay. So unfortunate this had to happen. Very surreal.

Yeah, totally agree.
Have flown with them dozens of times all over Asia.
Always been satisfied.

RE: AirAsia flight from Indonesia to Singapore missing
I fly twice a week, every week, and it never ceases to amaze me how infrequently airline disasters actually occur. Just think about the sheer kinetic energy, number of moving parts, and quantity of highly flammable propellant involved in every flight.

You'd expect hugely complicated machines full of jet fuel moving at 600mph to end up in fireballs far more often, so the modern aircraft industry is truly one of the triumphs of Western civilization. And yet Fuckerberg's cesspit website has a market cap greater than that of Boeing and Airbus combined, in other words greater than the entirety of the world's large commercial aircraft industry. Un-fucking conscionable.

Before I get on a rant: I'd take the girl second from right, no doubt about it.

RE: AirAsia flight from Indonesia to Singapore missing
I am currently in SEA myself and have been reading most of the day about this tragic accident.

this is the best lead I have found so far

If you look at how the pilots and plane behaved before it fell out the sky! It seems to fit the chain of events, check the sat maps and flight warnings for the area.
