It's official! Johnny Depp has announced his engagement to Amber Heard after a couple of years of semi-secretly-maybe-probably dating her and almost-definitely-probably breaking up his longterm relationship for her.

Actor Johnny Depp is engaged to marry actress Amber Heard, who he calls "a Southern belle and sweet as can be and very good for me" in an interview with NBC's "Today" show to air on Friday.

The 50-year-old "Pirates of the Caribbean" actor confirmed the news days after he was spotted wearing a woman's engagement ring on his left index hand, which set off speculation that he was to wed Heard.

Heard, a 27-year-old Texas native, co-starred with Depp in 2011's "The Rum Diary." The following year, Depp split from his long-time partner, the French actress Vanessa Paridis, with whom he has two children.

The best way to criticize an idea is to provide facts that refute, West doesn't even bother trying.

Even today the average new marriage is consists of a 2-year age-gap. Among the rich and famous this gap skyrockets. If women had the same shelf-life that men have you'd be seeing a lot more Kutcher-Moore relationships, but they don't so you don't.

Congrats to Depp though, she's smoking hot. The only thing about Rum Diary that didn't suck.

Not sure why he keeps getting married though, one divorce already plus the common-law marriage split with Paradis. His fortune will be taking a hit in the immediate future.

Met up with a friend I hadn't seen in over a decade. I used to have an enormous crush on her, but she always dated college guys, even when she was 16ish.

We discussed a lot of things. She's been taking care of herself and is definitely in the top of the looks department for 30, but my senses have become fine tuned for the subtle effects of age on a woman's face, especially since I remembered her as a 14-18 year old girl in homeroom. She was one of the first skinny fine ass bitches to start wearing those low-rise jeans in highschool. My boner was nonstop at the aspiration of seeing some lip slip. She doesn't look like that any more, and it's sad. She used to show me polaroids of her and her friend flashing the camera (at 16?). I wanted her ass soo bad. She is still the same size as she was in highschool, though. Definitely fine.

Anyway, we got to talking, and she's shacking up in a similar way. Dating a guy in his early 50s. I teased it out of her by mentioning how young the girls I am seeing are. It was very interesting relating to her on that level, as we're the same age, have been separated for so long, but found similar dating strategies. She wouldn't have me in highschool and I don't blame her, and I wouldn't have her now and she probably wouldn't blame me. I think thst subconsciously, I knew what was going on and I wanted to be the older guy all along, instead of the chump chasing bitches his own age.

Hats off to Johnny Depp. This is my future.

What if he got into showbiz just to facilitate gaming? In that case he has succeeded very well.

Depp may not have hit the wall physically, but I'm wondering if he's not mentally out to lunch and getting played. He's hitching himself to a woman who identified as a lesbian before she met him.

Amber Heard was in a relationship with a female photographer, Tasya van Ree, who she apparently dumped as soon as Depp appeared. Back in 2010, she "came out as a lesbian" in a high-profile, spectacular way: she did it at GLADD's 25th anniversary gala. (That quoted phrase is used in this CBS News article.)

Below is a photo of Heard and her ex-girlfriend, and here is an interview with her talking about how important it was she "come out." This is on the AfterEllen lesbian Web site:

"AfterEllen.com: What does it mean to you to be a part of this event tonight?

Amber Heard: I’m honored to be a part of GLAAD. I’ve long been a fan and long wanted to be a part of an organization as powerful, as influential and as important as GLAAD. I am acutely aware of the role that the media plays in influencing public opinion and influencing society, and with that awareness comes the burden of responsibility."

So what does this mean? Did she go "back in?" She didn't say she was bisexual, she said she was a lesbian. Could it be that she sensed a big payday in Depp?

Whatever the case, if she's bi: Bisexual women and gay men are the partners most likely to cheat according to several sources, notably this Examiner article in 2009:

Bi women were twice as likely to be drunk during sex than their straight or lesbian counterparts

...aaaaand now we've got this Amber Heard at 28, who he met while he was still with Paradis. Heard and Depp met on the set of The Rum Diary, which began shooting in 2009, i.e. when she was 23 or so. So Heard has her carpetlicking adventure after she and Depp parted ways on the film set.

It looks like Depp mostly forgot his game while he was with Paradis -- but more encouragingly putting an engagement ring on a woman's finger in the past hasn't been a guarantee of locking him down.

Me, I have a strong suspicion he wanted to marry Paradis but she knocked him back, and he used fatherhood as his "marriage". Amber Heard crosses his path as Paradis enters her late thirties, as he enters his late forties, and he decides to make a break for the fence while a twentysomething is still showing interest.

Johnny Depp has been one of the most noteworthy American actors over the past 15 years or so. I literally saw sorority cum dumpsters with posters of him on their walls around 2004-2005 when I was in college. That means he could probably have any bitch in the mid 20s to early 30s range that he wants. I hope this "show marriage" is just a PR exercise and he's getting plenty of strange on the side... for his sake. With that kind of money and status he can fuck any girl he wants from now until his death.
