If so many people illegally owned guns, then why is gun crime negligible here? There are plenty of petty criminals who'd love to get a gun if they could get their hands on one, but they can't. This is why it's so incredulous to Aussies that we could have a siege here, even terrorists attempting to join ISIS have had to resort to using knives (and in one case, a sword) because they couldn't get a gun. Trust me there is no way there are millions of guns just lying around in Australia. Anyone whose ever lived here will tell you that.
