DeBlasio's a moron. Everything he does is pandered to SJWism and complete ineffectuality. No one likes him - not Wall St, not the cops, not minorities (see: Eric Garner). NO ONE. That's not entirely true, welfare recipients like him. Even the left-leaning NYT rightfully criticizes him and shakes their head at him. And the NYP detests him.

He's putting NYC on a downward trajectory that is going to be hard to reverse. Thank god he'll never be elected a second term, but unfortunately we still have to wait another 3 years to see how much more damage he can inflict.

FYI, DeBlasio appointed Nigro as FDNY chief and Nigro is basically just a dick-sucker. If Gracie tells him to jump Nigro asks how high.

I love that they're now endangering the public's lives just to boost women's egos. The vast majority of women can't carry a man of normal weight under optimal circumstances, how they gonna be hauling 260lb Billy BigMac out of a blaze? I can already see FireGate happening, where a departmental leak reveals that female fire fighters have left a bunch of people in houses that could have been saved by a man to burn because they couldn't physically move them.

Hmmm...what's going on here?
Nigro joined the FDNY in 1969, and has been on countless calls, and no doubt knows this is a bad idea.
But he also knows this will attract a lot of publicity.
My take: this is a public relations stunt to build support for and blunt criticism of the FDNY by segments of the public (SJWs/women/liberals) that are not normally supportive. From the FDNY point of view this is important because they face a bit of a crisis with the investigation into the pension disability scam, which is a widespread problem that has only been partially revealed. Nigro likely thinks he can get the publicity benefit of hiring a few women, while working behind the scenes to limit the actual number of women hired so that it doesn't fundamentally alter the FDNY.
He's playing a dangerous and risky game, but I can see why he would play the Game of Thrones the way he is (note, I am not saying I agree or support this nonsense, just that I see why). After all, the most important thing is to protect all his fraudulent buddies collecting 100,000 a year disability pensions because of bad backs and depression.

This is true actually. I heard about a study that showed that police departments with more women had a higher correlation of gun violence towards civilians than those with less women.

So long as they add a test where the applicant has to successfully parallel park a firetruck I imagine that would cut out all the females without any possible claim of sexism.

I feel bad for any female firefighter that gets through recruit school this way, because she is gonna get rode into the ground as a probie. The fire service is pretty good at weeding out weak links early on, and if she can't handle the physical part of recruit school, good chance that no matter what station she goes to they're going to make her life hell to drive her out.

And not through any kind of hazing or borderline illegal shit, no, they're just going to make her train and drill. Drill and train. 6, 8, 10, 12 hour days doing nothing but drilling and training. Pulling hoses, throwing ladders, carrying tools, walking stairs in full gear and on air, all the physical shit she should have been able to do in the academy but was allowed to skate on. If she doesn't quit, she'll be in the physical condition she should have been when she started.

Which ones?

I was just at a big international powerlifting competition where some women set world records in the three lifts and total. They are genuinely strong. Among the strongest in the world, I'd say.

Yet when it came to spotting and loading for the safety of competing lifters, who do you see on the platform spotting? 100% men. Even the weakest and smallest of local male lifters are preferred to female world record holders with freak strength genetics. Not to mention that the latter never volunteers for any dirty work like spotting that has no significant recognition anyway. If you don't believe me, just have a look at the Youtube videos of any powerlifting competition and see if you can ever find a female among the spotters.

Similarly with firefighting, I doubt any strong woman would get into that career, and even if they do, I doubt when it really comes down to it, you'd want them carry you and your loved ones.

Perhaps Nigro knows what he's doing and has a long term plan. He eliminates the physical standards, then these women come in and can't hack shit. Then he says "well we tried but they were not fit for the job, standards are back in effect".

I have several close friends who are or were firefighters. Mostly wild land firefighters. They've told me countless times how useless the females on the crew are for anything other than giving handjobs to dudes behind a bush on the fire line.
