RE: Overheard Game
Last night while I was waiting on a bench for the tram after some rough bang session, next to a girl 6/6.5 maybe at most) , some black guy comes, does not look at me at all, and asks the girl if she knows where SuperAwesomeName club is.after she looked at her phone, told him she did not see where it could be, the guy went like "shit... I am lost". As I watching it less than 1m from them, he turned back and left.
At least when you try those kinds of openers, talk to 1 or 2 people next to the girl, to not telegraph at 100% your intentions lol.

I was out with Rockhard a couple weeks ago and we stopped in at this pub/pizza joint downtown end of the night to grab a slice and unwind. Bar was mostly empty, but there is this 6.5/7 at the end of the bar alone chatting with the bartender. Didn't catch their whole conversation but it sounded like she had plans of some kind or a date and it fell through so she was out alone.
Anyway, Rockhard sitting to my left and this girl sitting about 2 seats left of him. This decent looking dude strolls in, scopes out the scene real quick, and sits right next to her (just as I was about to take my drink and sit over there, damn!) He opens her but I couldn't quite hear what he said. Seemed like generic small talk and they shared a polite smile/chuckle, then he sits there for a while staring at the menu likely searching for something else to say.
Then he pulls out his phone and scrolls through it for a while. Sitting next to this girl at the end of the bar in silence. He finishes his drink then leaves.
I remember commenting to Rockhard about what a missed opportunity that was for him. What girl is at a bar alone? Obviously lonely as fuck, and the dude was decent looking he just didn't have the nerve to keep the interaction going past the "hello" icebreaker. He let shit get quiet for too long to the point where it would have felt too awkward for him to re-engage, then he left. Psh.
I didn't hear the game but the visual and body language was plenty enough.
It's likely that your assessment of the situation was correct and he simply stalled out but since you didn't actually hear the conversation it's also possible (though not likely) that she politely shut him down saying she was waiting for her bartender bf to get off work. If I were in that situation and I wasn't getting anything back from her after a minute or two of chatting her up I would take the hint and leave her alone.
Possible that she shut him down, but I don't think her and the bartender were too familiar. About 5 minutes after the guy left she paid her tab and left too. The bartender wasn't overly friendly with her from the looks of it. No more than he was with us and the rest of the clientèle really.
I have awful hearing from abusing my ears playing shows for years, going to concerts, going shooting, going to races, etc. It sucks because I can hardly ever overhear shit so I miss a lot of good sociology by proxy.
Today I was out to breakfast with my mother and these 2 early early-20ish girls were sitting next to us having a typical brunch date gabbing about their friends, tinder date(s), classes, and other typical stuff. I was trying to listen in on her tinder date stories but could only hear half of what she was saying, and she was close and talking pretty audibly. My ears are just shot. Oh well.

I hear ya man on having crappy hearing in loud areas...no pun intended
As for the woman in the bar, I realize I wasn't clear in my last post. She and the bartender obviously didn't know each other but it's possible that she fed that line to the guy if she wasn't interested in him from the jump. Or she said she was meeting someone else.
As an aside, I see that many times. I'll be at a bar with an online date and a really attractive lone woman will walk in, sit at the bar and order a drink. Sometimes she'll be alone for quite some time and always, without fail, some dude will arrive apologizing for being late and the two obviously know each other. If I were rolling solo and saw this woman alone my first thought would be to sit next to her like the guy in your story but knowing how this scenario always plays out in my experience it would be awkward when her date/bf arrives shortly after. How would you handle such a situation?
My first thought would be to sit a couple of spaces away from her where I could still open her but if someone else showed up it wouldn't look out of the ordinary.
