1) Saying ''oh they are just complimenting/catcalling her'' with a total lack of empathy.
2) Actually putting yourself in her place and trying to imagine how bothersome it can be to go through this every day for 10-15 years of your life. Whenever you go out all these thirsty, busted guys catcall you, try to touch you, follow you, sometimes say outright sexual things to you, stop you in the street, try to get your number and shit. And don't compare this to a nightclub and say this happens everywhere. This is street. Imagine having a boyfriend or a husband and this still doesn't change when you walk in the street, unless you cover your head which I won't even go into the disadvantages of covering your head. Call me whiteknight but I feel pity for women who live in Arabic countries and have to put up with all this shit. They are not allowed to go out at night just to walk, let alone going to a nightclub or a party. And they have to put up with all these dudes just because they don't cover their head and walk in the street without company.
Ps: I'm not assuming these things, I've been to Egypt. The situation is much worse than in the video. It has insanely high rape statistics.
Pss: I'm not advocating this type of attention-whoring and uploading it on Youtube. But there is a reality for women who live in Middle Eastern shitholes that I can't just dismiss by saying ''ah she's fine. It's just compliments and stares''.
^^ This.
I'll also add that men from muslim nations without an endemic culture & whose whole national identity is based entirely on Islam are the lowest form of human beings.
You do not see the same problem in Turkey, Iran, Lebanon, Syria or amongst Indian Muslims. These countries have national, ethnic or cultural identities & civilization independent of Islam.
Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Libya, Somalia and the likes however did not have strong regional, national or cultural identities before Islam, so their lack of culture coupled with Islam creates countries, people & situations like you described above.
That's what happens when a bunch of camel fucking uncivilized tribes accept Islam.

Get a load of this. You ever heard of "ancient Egypt"?
I think you're partially correct in cases like Somalia or Afghanistan, where large segments of the population come from a rural, tribal background. Somali clans that used to live out in the desert still believe that female circumcision is a good idea, while the Waziri tribesmen who live on the border between Afghanistan and Pakistan are possibly the most extreme Muslims on the planet. I do, however, feel like populations like those exist in countries all over the world, not just in Islamic ones.

Could you give me an example ? islam is the most barbaric and backward religion ever created. Introduce Islam to an already backward society then you get cases like Somalia or Afghanistan. Introduce Islam to a rich and advanced culture like Iran and they'll stagnate. I honestly believe that without Islam holding it back iran could have become a 1st world country & major world player by now.
Modern egypt has literally nothing in common with ancient Egypt. Ancient Egypt did not leave a legacy on modern Egypt due to Egypt being ruled by foreign powers for pretty much all of its history after the pharaohs (the Ptolemaic Greeks, Romans, Sassanid Persians, Ummayad Arabs from Mecca, the Abbasids from Baghdad, the Crusaders, the Saracens,Ottomans and British). This is why i include Egypt as one of the barbarian muslim countries. One visit to Cairo or Alexandria excluding the Coptic Orthodox neighborhoods and u'll know what i mean.

RE: 4 hours of walking in Cairo, Egypt as a woman.
Tangentially related article, don't know if you guys have already seen it--
http://thefederalist.com/2014/11/03/what...-of-power/
Quote:But when the Orkin photo turned 60 years old, a few years ago, the woman it captured talked about what the photo does and doesn’t represent:
“Some people want to use it as a symbol of harassment of women, but that’s what we’ve been fighting all these years,” [Ninalee] Craig said in a telephone interview from her home in Toronto. “It’s not a symbol of harassment. It’s a symbol of a woman having an absolutely wonderful time!”The woman explained, in an interview with Today, how the photo was shot during another staged walk through a major world city. In her case, she’d met photographer Orkin at the hotel she was staying at. Craig was only 23-years-old and had left a job and gone on a ship bound for Europe at a low fare. She spent months going solo through France, Spain and Italy. She tried to do it as cheaply as she could. Orkin was 29-years-old and another adventurous solo female traveler.
They both agreed that they were having a wonderful time and decided to photograph what it was like being a solo female in Florence at that time. So they spent hours on the street as Craig — wearing a bright orange scarf — flirted in cafes, gawked at statues, and was leered at by men.
Both Craig and Orkin’s daughter Mary Engel agree that “the photo is primarily a celebration of strong, independent women who aren’t afraid to live life.” Craig has some insight worth reading:
“Men who see the picture always ask me: Was I frightened? Did I need to be protected? Was I upset?” Craig said. “They always have a manly concern for me. Women, on the other hand, look at that picture, and the ones who have become my friends will laugh and say, ‘Isn’t it wonderful? Aren’t the Italians wonderful? ... They make you feel appreciated!’”
Craig said she certainly did feel appreciated in Italy and elsewhere in Europe. She turned plenty of heads wherever she went because she was 6 feet tall and traveling alone. She knows the men in the photo appear to be leering and lascivious, but she insists they were harmless.
“Very few of those men had jobs,” Craig said. “Italy was recovering from the war and had really been devastated by it … I can tell you that it wasn’t the intent of any man there to harass me.”
OK, but how about the man committing that not-so-innocent-looking gesture with his hand?
“That young man is not whistling, by the way; he’s making a happy, yelping sound,” Craig said. “And where you see him touching the family jewels, or indicating them, with his hand — well, for a long time that was considered an image people should not look at. That part was airbrushed out for years ... But none of those men crossed the line at all.”There is something interesting about a world where a young woman traveling alone feels empowered as she walks through a crowd of men “appreciating” her (or “street harassing” her, if you prefer) and one where a woman feels victimized. Certainly there are actions that are straight up harassment but much of what happens in street interactions is something much grayer. Is it better to teach women to feel victimized by such behavior or empowered by it?

This is IMO religion trolling.
Replace "Islam" with "any oppressive religion". It could just as easily be Christianity, Judaism or even Zoroastrianism trolling entire continents... but it's Islam because that's how the cards fell. Being Muslim doesn't make you a bad person any more than any other religion.
Go back a few hundred years and it was the Christians earning all the world's asshole awards. It doesn't matter what the title is, get enough people to back some dick/dicks promoting an -ism and you'll eventually have oppression.

If you are American, this post is proof that our educational system needs an overhaul. I dislike quoting wikipedia to argue a point, but this list ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Per...d_scholars) consists of thousands of Persian scholars who existed after the Arab conquest of Iran. Some of them, like al-Khwarizmi, revolutionized the field of mathematics, while others, like Omar Khayyam, were poetic geniuses. The Islamic Golden Age, which stretched across the Middle East(including countries like Saudi Arabia, which you described as having no prior history), gave us the law of sines and provided the first definite sighting of the Andromeda galaxy. Between the tenth and thirteenth centuries C.E, the Middle East was probably the most cultured and scientifically advanced region in the world...all while the vast majority of its population was devoutly Muslim.
All those scientific discoveries sound real "barbaric" and "backward", don't they?
I'll always argue that the main culprit of barbarism in any society is poverty and a lack of resources. The Pashtun and Waziri tribesmen followed a close equivalent of the religion practiced by elites in Safavid Persia and Mughal India. The latter two produced some of the finest cultural and architectural products the world has ever seen; the former continues to eke out an existence off of sheepherding and banditry. Should we still blame Islam for the wretched state of the Afghan tribesmen? Or should we, you know, blame the fact that they live in the coldest, most barren areas of the fucking Hindu Kush mountains? Do you think rich, college-educated Muslims in Mumbai or Karachi carry out terrorist attacks and honor killings as often as poor Chechen refugees? The purported savagery of Islam can be almost entirely attributed to environmental and economic factors.
People choose to interpret their religion however the fuck they want. A religious book could literally tell people to pop acid and have sex on the daily, and people would still use it as an excuse to kill each other.
