Odd Jobs and Side Job Hustles with a Pickup Truck
I've been a pickup truck (used) owner for about 10 months. Other than the occasional oil and filter changes and a few issues such as AC and heating, I've been pleased with the experience. I have a main 9 - 5 and hustle with side jobs such as hauling people's shit across town in the bed of my truck.

This thread is to find out what are some low start-up-cost hustles you know of that can simply be done with a pickup truck so I can have an extra few hundred dollars of cash a week. As of now, I renew my Craislist ad 2x a week to offer hauling services for things that can fit in the bed. I've done a handful of these types of jobs. What are some of the hustles with a pickup truck you guys are doing that pay pretty decent? Scrap? Trash?

I have seen ads on craigslist in the furniture section, where guys offer to move stuff for 50$.
Like deliver a chair for someone.

Put a rack on it and get a trailer so you can make deliveries of larger items. e.g. For people doing a kitchen renovation.

Actually that's a good idea for an Uber style service. Uber for deliveries. There are a lot of small contractors who don't have the trucks to deliver the goods they work with. Also, stuff like IKEA and other furniture deliveries, obviously.

Anyone know of a Uber type site for deliveries? If not it needs to be developed. Same concept as Uber. Different style and size trucks for different deliveries. Standard payments for time, distance travelled and weight/volume of goods. would almost certainly need two able bodied people to operate.

The trash one is pretty good.

You need a hitch, trailer, and bin. But you drop it off at the work/construction site, and then drive to the land fill. The one I see in my hood charges 200 bucks.

There is a guy near me who trolls the neighborhood on garbage day for scrap metal. He only stops for the big stuff like BBQ grills. Pretty sure he makes a solid $250+ from a load.

There's an app called Wagon, which is like Uber for hauling shit. don't know how popular it is. I believe there are a few more, depending on where you live.

https://www.getwagon.com/

What I would do is hang out by Ikea, drop some business cards or make some fliers with a google voice number. See if people need to take stuff to their home, payment in cash (or have a square card reader).

Another thing I see in LA is a guy has an Instagram account. He thrifts furniture from stores/garage sales and sells them at a flat delivered price. If you can get a following, you could do pretty well for yourself, marking up furniture at a delivered cost. Target hipsters.

I'd do the same for used gym equitpment as the markdowns on those is crazy and people, especially towards the start of the year would want them.

The key here is to develop partnerships with local furniture stores that don't have their own in-house delivery service, or sometimes have overflow work. I know a guy who is booked solid each week just from establishing his own base of business from furniture stores, hardware stores and so forth. He's well dressed in a sharp polo and slacks, charges a moderate, but not outrageous price, and he makes every effort to make his customers happy. It is a cash-only business and he has no debt. Just two months ago he bought his first house. It is a great side hustle that can turn into a full time hustle if you're in the right neighborhood and are willing to put in the time to forge your business relationships.

Quick question: How does he manage to make it cash only? Do the customers of the furniture stores pay him directly? I can't imagine a furniture store wanting to pay in cash.
