This concept does play in line with "flow points" at the bar, somewhat.

Funny I don't really see obvious funnels like this out and about -- they used those "along the outside of the bar" places to put your drink as dividers.

I love turning little forced interactions like that into flirting... the obligatory smile / "sorry we have to squeeze past each other like this" can turn sexy quick with the right eyes and body language.

Chuckled about the "buy you a drink" part... more like "get your buying temperature up while I nurse my last drink... then isolate."

It just seems too basic for my tastes and has a lot of potential improvements. For example, it could use a bit of design work like the addition of an arch or some surface covering/lighting, as well as possibly allowing some extended seating attachments too. It'd also be great to have multiple of these funnel points in a larger dance floor.

I'm also interested in seeing if the principle of this idea would actually work.

But overall I like the idea, it's subtle and schematic with a lot of potential.

It's a subset of "meet-cute", which girls dig.

Not all meets are cute though: I had a girlfriend I met on the sidewalk near my apartment one Friday night, and while I would tell people the "how we met" and try to make it fun and organic, she once semi-joked "it's cute, but basically you hollered at me on the streets! maybe it makes me look bad!"

So: thoughts on other ways to engineer meet-cutes?

I do this on the subway, waiting to overhear tourist girls overtly discussing their subway plans. It happens a lot and is a great invite for cutting through their nonsense with an authoritative "heh -- where you tryin'a go??" that they will inevitably answer with bashful smiles. Then they sort of want to tell you their plans, for validation? Good convo opps.
