In my experience people like this will often view it as an attack and not understand that they're doing anything weird regardless of how clearly it is explained. Helping people is a noble goal but trying to help someone before they're asking for help is usually futile.

That 'Bowling Pin' story really reminds me that, and especially living in a foreign country, just how many people from the West I encounter every day who are poorly-socialized - to the point that they're practically disabled; whether it was the girl who used to live in my building who would never stop bitching and whining about China, even as I was telling her 'Look, I have to go!' and checking my phone every few seconds, or someone I used to work with who would corner people when talking to them.

I don't know what to blame, but I do know this; These people are almost 100% of the time deeply insecure and highly value what people think of them, and in over two years in China, the three stupidest and most unpleasant people I've met (and four of the top five) have been American - not British, not Canadian, not Australian - American. Why? I know the US has a bigger population than all of those three places combined, but this can't be an accident...

I think part of why little dark didn't get some helpful advice was obviously the ridiculousness of his post, the epicness of the memes and pics that came at him like a once in a hundred year storm and that he got banned and didn't make it past page 1.

If he didn't get banned and was still posting some of the decent guys would have offered some advice. We would have broken down what really happened,etc. Also I don't think English was his first language and guys are good about understanding that. But he derailed it himself with that classic line about not going in the direction he had hoped.

It was the fourth link down the list when I googled it. Something similar happens when I google "throwing shit on girl." That HiFlo guy who was banned from here started a similar white knight fight thread, although I believe that there were far fewer white knights in that other thread.
