But when it does happen what I do, even if it's awkward, is ask the guy directly if it's ok to date the ex (also if you're a good friend you should know more or less how he'd feel about it to even ask). We guys need to be still upfront and deal with things like men.

I'll admit it's a line very hard to draw sometimes, but when in doubt I prefer not to do it. Sexual desire shouldn't be such a big thing that derails us from the important things (which we also need to figure out for each one of us)

Friends and family-never! However married women are often particularly straight-up and freaky thus rewarding so I don't say no.

I agree with this. I think I mentioned that my friend sent over his girlfriend to stay with me for a day as a tester. If she had slept with me, then he would have known that she is not trustworthy and he would have been able to act accordingly.

Actually, it seems to be the inverse.

Having a set of qualifications and principles that friends must abide by is about as logical as it gets.
