RE: Inerstellar - an excellent movie
I liked this movie a lot. Sometimes you come across a film at just that right point in your life.
Maybe you're in the right mood, or feeling reflective about one thing or another.
I first saw "Interstellar" in April on my flight from Houston to Rio. I was transfixed. Christopher Nolan does his usual professional directing job, and it's clear that he researched the physics very carefully. I saw the movie again last week on another flight to Brazil.
The scene in the hypercube, for instance, is very well done, and packs an emotional power all its own.
But what makes this film a success is that it doesn't just dwell on physics or space travel: its themes are actually very human.
The themes of the film are profound: the power of love, the unstoppable passage of time, personal loss, and, ultimately, the redemptive power of hope.
It is a great film.
There are some flaws here, of course. The first hour of the film could have been considerably shortened, and some of the plot threads are left without resolution.
But this is a moral tale of enduring value.

So the wormhole is not the blackhole?
Can planets orbit around a blackhole as if it were a sun? I always assumed the gravity would just pull everything in..
Why is time different for them? Those space ships never get close to the speed of light, if a wormhole bends space so that point A and B become the same point then shouldnt the travel be instantaneous isnt that the whole point?
How did the people of earth got saved? Where did they go, how did they used the knowledge they gained?
In 50 years that guy didnt fucked anne hathaway? Not even once?
The entire movie is mind-numbingly stupid. Warping time planet, but leaving matter peacefully alone. Also even if he is willing to enter the black-hole. It would still take hundreds of years of travel to enter it completely. Those things are massive.
They even justify their crap by saying that they have calculated the mathematics right. Yeah - I wanna see them set foot on that time-warping planet first.
^That is a good point. Regarding the planet they land on where 1 hour there equals 7 years on earth because of the immense gravitational effects of the nearby black hole.
It is true and has been proven, that gravity effects time. However, it seems if there was enough gravitational force on that planet to effect time so profoundly ( 1 planet hour equaling 7 earth years) then, would not the gravity there have effected the astronauts and their craft? It certainly effected the tides on the planet ergo the 20 story waves.
Perhaps the gravity was more of a 'pulling' force on the planet's tides and crust? In the way our moon effects tides here, just much more profound. There is a book called 'The Science of Interstellar' which might explain this seeming paradox but I only perused it briefly while at the bookstore one day.
Also, one would think entering a black hole would simply reduce you and your spacecraft to a tiny compressed ball of matter, completely crushed to the smallest size possible by the insane gravity of the black hole.
Nonetheless, for most movies, a suspension of disbelief must be applied a little here and there and I thought Interstellar was a great movie.
One planet orbiting a star. Billions of stars in the galaxy. Billions of galaxies in the universe. Approach.

Just cause you're an engineer doesn't mean you can't be born as a farm boy.
I must have been not all that clear. Explaining again:
The guy has to be an astronaut for a decade or so in order to be one of the best (including M.Sc.).
In the movie it seems that he has been on the farm for a long time.
So he has got to be pushing 40, or more.
This does not compute. He has a teenage son (No way Tom was born when Cooper was 20).
So
You have a 40+ years astronaut, in good shape (?) just going back to space.
