Buenos Aires - Where do you keep your USD ?
Hi all,

As a lot of you already know, one has to go with a stack of cash dollars when traveling to Argentina to take advantage of the blue dólar or the unofficial ARS/USD exchange rate which is in our favor.

Since I will be there for a couple of months, I was wondering where you guys would hide the money. Do you have any specific idea regarding my situation ?

I will be staying in an airbnb condo, but not sure there will be any locker available.

What do argentinians hate to eat? Pretty sure it's anything vegetarian. By a block of tofu and carefully exchange the tofu within for a wad of cash.

That might be absurd but cash in the fridge is actually usually a pretty sure bet because they will go for manholes in the ceiling, under the mattress, through your suitcase even the radiator behind your fridge but they will never go for food.

Also split your cash up, don't keep it all in on place. It will insulate you in the worst case scenario.

Sounds like an awesome idea, thank you !Had never thought about something so trivial. Anyone has any other idea where I could hide the other half of the money ?

Split it up into multiple batches. Everyone in Argentina knows that people hoard cash around their homes so you don't want to lose half of it if you are unfortunately robbed. It's not likely but you never know.

Fridge/freezer and cupboard, inside of a box or bag of something else is a good idea. It's less likely someone is going to go through individual boxes of food and such, so inside a bag of frozen peas, the bottom of a cereal box, inside a dvd case etc. are recommended.

A man who procrastinates in his choosing will inevitably have his choice made for him by circumstance.

A true friend is the most precious of all possessions and the one we take the least thought about acquiring.

Here (western Europe) the police advise against hiding stuff in the fridge because the burglars tend to go through that.

A pretty cool book on making secret compartments etc:

Take a look at this article:

I didn't use Xoom myself when I was down there since I had a safe, but a lot of my friends did

-Get a large suitcase w/a lock (distraction 1)

- Small amount of cash near nightdrawer (distraction 2)

-Place portion of money inside of one of the socks in your sock drawer OR fridge (with a food you never eat). God forbid you have a girl/maid throw away your stash.

- Get one of these stash containers for another portion. Most people use them to store weed/valuables.

- Get a money belt that you use to carry around cash. I prefer a waist high-cloth one.

WIA- For most of men, our time being masters of our own fate, kings in our own castles is short. Even those of us in the game will eventually succumb to ease of servitude rather than deal with the malaise of solitude

As DVY touched on, leave a 10/20/50/100 whatever you're willing to lose in plain sight on a table or something like that. Small insurance against thieves who won't go further than that.
