I think were arguing different points. Id still consider that kind of money spending as indirect. Big difference between swooping fly babes with luxuries and lifestyle and hiring a prostitute for a bang. The latter is direct and requires no effort. The first still needs to earn the lay.

I don't doubt that your friend is a true player, but fact is he gets 100 notches a year, not 160.

I have nothing against people who pay for sex and I realize that it may be a perfectly legitimate and cost-effective way for people who have plenty of money but little free time to hook up, but I don't think paying a hooker for sex should be called a notch because there should at least be some effort involved in making the girl agree to fuck you, otherwise the term loses its meaning.

As you said, your buddy calls up a prostitute when he fails to pick up (or isn't totally satisfied by what he picked up). By definition he's valuing those hooker "notches" less and I don't think they should be counted since he literally did nothing to earn them. Hell, even buying a girl dinner and expensive gifts isn't a guarantee of sex if you royally fuck up by being a complete idiot or beta loser.

Or maybe I just need to know that the girl actually wants to be there. I don't think that's an irrational desire though.

No, it does not - it will just have the different meaning. What you have here is circular logic - you defined what makes a notch, and argue that any other definition would lose the meaning you defined.

A notch is whatever you think it is to make you feel better and more confident about yourself. D^mn what anyone else thinks. It's all about you. If you feel better or more confident about yourself paying (directly or indirectly) to hit then that's a notch for you. If you feel like the man when you don't spend a dime then that's good too.
