22-Year-Old Female High School Student Teacher Charged with Sexual Assault After Sex with 18-Year-Old Student

Tayler Ivy Boncal, a student teacher at Conard High School in West Hartford, Connecticut, has been charged with sexual assault after she engaged in a consensual sexual relationship with an 18-year-old student.

Former student teacher and track coach Tayler Ivy Boncal was charged last week with three counts of second-degree sexual assault for her participation in a sexual relationship with an 18-year-old student. Although Boncal had finished her semester as a student by the time of the relationship, she was active in the district as a coach for Conard High School’s track team.

A concerned parent notified the school district about a potentially inappropriate relationship between a former teacher and student. Connecticut police started an investigation into the alleged relationship. According to their findings, the 18-year-old student initiated the relationship when he asked for her cell phone number in December 2017. The student was enrolled at the time in one of Boncal’s social science classes.

The pair engaged in intercourse several times, each time at Boncal’s residence. The encounters took place between December 25 and January 11.

The student refused to provide a written statement out of concern that the investigation would harm Boncal. “The victim refused to provide a written statement,” police wrote in a statement. “The victim expressed concern for Boncal with regard to the outcome of this investigation.”

Conard High School Principal Julio Duarte addressed Boncal’s arrest in a letter sent to the community on Friday.

“As educators, we are entrusted to protect and educate all of our students and know there are certain boundaries that can never be crossed,” Duarte wrote in the letter. “Also, we will not tolerate any behavior that compromises the safety or well-being of our students. I hope you will not let the misconduct of this one individual cast a shadow over all of our staff members who demonstrate their commitment to our students every day.”

West Hartford schools superintendent Tom Moore condemned Boncal’s behavior, arguing that she broke the “sacred trust” she entered into when she joined the community. “Whether someone is 21, 41, or 61, the moment they are a part of a school as a student teacher, mentor, or coach, they enter into a sacred trust with our students and community,” Moore said.

And it seems like she didn't have a boyfriend or husband at the time, at least as far as the article mentions. It is a lot less fucked up than a married school teacher with four kids taking 14-year old Timmy out by the dumpster and giving him a free lesson in sex-ed.

Once a person turns 18 there shouldn't be criminal penalties for this.

I'm all for teachers being fired, or lawsuits if sex was leveraged for grades, but to use the criminal system to deter behavior between adults is bogus and reeks of authoritarian rule.

The only real defense of criminalizing the behavior is that school attendance is mandatory, and therefore the student is legally compelled to attend and be under the authority of the instructor.

What are the odds that the female lawyer-turned-judge is actually a feminist activist though?

I think we can agree there is a bias in sentencing women by men, because of the simp factor. But the risk from women is that they become boosters for feminist activism & overall are more driven by emotion. Not a good thing in a judge. I'd vastly prefer delegating the sentencing to a board of men whose only responsibility was to receive anonymized data about the case and sentence them according to the law rather than whim and beta-pedestalization.

The reality is that would never happen and I'd rather have a "strong woman" then a simp judge on my case. Regardless of what they say, females always tear down other females, just part of their genetics. The pussy pass needs to be destroyed for any traction on some of these one sided laws currently in existence, especially when it comes to divorce law.

It’s why I said there must be more to the story. Not providing a written statement doesn’t mean much. This is considered a crime against the state, so the state can theoretically proceed without the “victim”. But it’s every citizems’ constitutional right to face their accuser, so if he was unwilling to testify then the case goes nowhere. The only thing that could be done to him is charging him with contempt but that’s aost unheard of to charge a victim of sexual assault woth contempt.

Nope.

The sixth amendment of the United States guarantees the right to cross examine witnesses. Nothing more.

The accuser and the victim do not need to be the same person. For example, in a murder case, the accuser will be the witnesses brought to the stand by the state. If a 3 year old is the alleged victim of a crime, the 3 year old is also not going to be the accuser.

Same goes for a dangerous driving charge. The owner of the car smashed up by the driver charged with dangerous driving might not be the accuser. Unless he actually testifies, the accuser would be the police officer who witnessed the results of the crash and shares evidence from the stand.

I find it odd that so many Americans aren't particularly familiar with their own constitution.

That broad is splitting hairs. In all of those examples except maybe the minister, professionals ins a position of trust over a minor (e.g., doctor/patient or attorney/client) they can lose their license to practice just for getting into their pants, even if the relationship was fully consensual and legal. Though not criminal under Alabama law, actions like that are economically punishable in other ways by the licensing authorities.

You can be sure they'd be less likely to do anything at all if it were a 65 year old man and his boy toy though - wouldn't want to be seen as "homophobic" nowadays.

A 14-year-old boy told police in Florida that he had a sexual relationship with his eighth grade science teacher. On February 28, the Volusia County Sheriff’s Office released a statement saying that Stephanie Peterson, 26, had been arrested and accused of having an inappropriate relationship with a student going back to November 2017. During their relationship, the boy told police that Peterson would pick him up at his home at around 11 p.m. and bring him back at around 1 or 2 a.m. The press release says that the alleged abuse began when Peterson sent the victim nude photos.

The student was first interviewed by officers on February 27 after he told his parents about the abuse, the day before Peterson’s arrest. Peterson resigned from her job on February 26. In addition, according to the sheriff’s statement, Peterson is also accused of buying the child marijuana and bowls to smoke it. The victim’s grades suffered during the abuse and Peterson told the teen that he couldn’t tell anyone or they would get in trouble, according to the sheriff’s statement. When Peterson was arrested, she was held on a $25,000 bond.

A News-Journal article on Peterson’s February 2018 arrest says that she is being represented in her divorce from Ferri by her father, attorney Philip Peterson. The divorce application was filed on February 12.


According to Brandon Ferri’s now-deleted Facebook page, he is a firefighter and EMT with the Deland Fire Department. In addition, Ferri also runs fishing expeditions in New Smyrna Beach. That page says that Ferri has lived in the area his whole life and “has operated his own boat on Mosquito Lagoon since the age of 15.” Ferri has not commented on his estranged wife’s arrest.

Peterson is facing two counts of lewd or lascivious battery and one count of transmission of harmful materials to a minor.


2. Peterson Has Been the Science Teacher at New Smyrna Since August 2016



Speaking to the Daytona Beach News-Journal, a school district spokeswoman said that Peterson began working in the district as a substitute teacher in October 2010. From there, Peterson worked as a reading teacher with the Creekside Middle School in Port Orange before landing in New Smyrna Middle School in August 2016 where she taught science. When asked the reason for Peterson’s resignation, a spokeswoman said the reason given was “personal.”



3. Her Father Is a Prominent Attorney in New Smyrna Beach


Peterson’s father is Philip Peterson, a private practice lawyer with DeLoach and Peterson law firm in New Smyrna Beach, Florida. According to his bio on the firm’s website, Philip Peterson, a native of Iowa, moved to Florida when his father worked in the space program in 1967. In 1975, Philip ran a movie theater in the area known as the New Smyrna Theater, along with his brother, Sid. From there, Philip studied at Daytona Community College, Stetson Business School and the Stetson College of Law. He was admitted to the Florida bar in 1982. His bio concludes, “Phil has built and earned a reputation for integrity, zealous representation, efficiency, and results.”

The law firm was started by Philip’s brother, Sid’s, father-in-law. Sid Peterson is also a lawyer in the firm. His bio says that he ran the movie theater along side his brother.


4. It’s Texas that Leads the Way in Prosecuting Teachers Accused of Abusing Students


In November 2016, Texas State Representative Tony Dale sought to pass legislation that would prevent, as Dale says, teachers merely resigning and moving. Dale said of his legislation, “HB 218 increases penalties and close loopholes that allow educators who engage in inappropriate relationships to resign and obtain employment in another district. This bill seeks to allow Texas the tools we need to get rid of teachers who prey on our children.”


5. Female Educators Make Up a Small Fraction Teacher/Student Sexual Assault Convictions


Slate reported that female educators make up 4 percent of convicted rapists in teacher/student sexual assault cases in 2006. While in 2016, former Department of Education chief of staff, Terry Abbott, wrote in the Washington Post that teacher/student sexual assault cases were on the rise. For example, in Kentucky in 2011, the state saw the number of such cases nearly double.
