I think a first step in the right direction would be to install a minister of health who isn't making international headlines as a joke.

Another step would be to install a minister of defence who actually has a history in the army, with a resume containing a tour of duty & responsibility for troups. A minister of defence isn't just an administrative job, like minister of education; it's a matter of deciding on life and death with many factions and interests trying to lead you in their sphere of influence.

There's always been something rotten in Belgium, hasn't there. Their only contributions to God's earth are chocolate and beer. Which are great, but self-indulgent. Apart from that it's chiefly chopping hands off Africans, non-democratic bureaucracy and pedophile rings. So I'd say this minister is par for the course, if not a bit underwhelming.

Either way, her weight in and of itself makes no difference as to whether she is a good or bad politician (I thought that she was anti-immigration).

We actually are. I find most obese people disgusting, basically because of the lack of self-control and -discipline, as do a lot more people in Europe. I´d say most young people under 30 are not obese. Obese people tend to be low class or older folks.

But there is certainly a spike in recent times with child obesity thanks to the modern sedentary lifestyle and availability of processed food.

Haha I'm Belgian, but well no offense taken. Nice coming from a man from a country founded by former european thugs ;-).

Ps it is worth noting that the fat minister has a medic degree and if Im not mistaken she was a practising doctor for 20 or so years. Well I dont know the details but I guess there is a small possibility she has some genetic deficiency or something. We will evaluate her work afterwards.

wish this was unprecedented. however, for the last five years and until only June of this year, a land whale named deb matthews was minister of health in my home country's most populous province (pic after the link: http://www.sunnewsnetwork.ca/sunnews/str...408.html).

her most recent pet project was proposed legislation to force larger fast food chains to disclose calorie counts of their foods right on their menus.

she took a lot of flack in the canadian right-wing media for being a land whale whilst lecturing others on their caloric intake. seemed like fair criticism to me.

unhappily, she's now the deputy premier.

aphelion, i wouldn't hate on it, as i use the nutritional guides myself. but that is because i am motivated to. the average joe six-pack who eats a big mac a day isn't going to care whether it says 600 calories in big block letters on the display, or tucked away on the back wall in small print. he's going to eat it no matter what.

in any event, the irony of an obese woman implying that everyone is eating too many calories was certainly not lost on me...
