Meet Maggie De Block.



This strapping young woman is a highly-popular Flemish liberal politician.

She actually was a practicing physician for quite some time.

Well, a new center-right coalition has been assembled in Belgium this month, appointing Ms. De Block as the minister of Health & Social Policy.

I find it extremely disconcerting that any government would consider appointing somebody who can't walk the walk on health, personal hygiene and diet to a position to encourage others to live healthier lives. It is akin to an alcoholic running a rehabilitation center. There is a reason that former alcoholics have to been clean for at least one year before they are allowed to be sponsors or counsel struggling alcoholics.

Regardless, this is a seriously disappointing move by Belgium. I have strong Belgian roots and this makes make me hang my head in shame. Pathetic.

From my experience fat women in positions of power always end up being hollow and pedantic bureaucrats with no practical purpose and no sense of humor whatsoever.

Are you sure there are wheelchairs around that can support this kind of weight? They would probably have to be made out of titanium.

This sums up the failure of the leftist govt./mindset in one simple picture.

The end result of a big brother govt. is things being so upside down that an morbidly obese woman is paraded around as the minister of health and no one dares question it for fear of having to answer to the new SS which is the PC feel good police.

Makes perfect sense. Most government officials are useless or destructive wastes of space.
Rather than expecting her to accomplish something good by her actions, she will at least act as a visual warning to other unhealthy people.

Also just one of the many and up-coming cues how Western world has been decaying.
I actually have no sympathy for European Union and the Anglosphere with US in particular. Let it crumble to the ground, I'll be in SEA when that happens.

I've said it before, but a country like Poland could invade westwards and conquer mainland Europe within a week. France and the UK are the only reliable European partners capable of pulling their own weight, and as the UK has scrapped most of its Navy recently, even this is subject to debate.

"Centre-right coalition" in Western Europe = still very left compared to the common sense needed to right the ship.

The larger the govt. grows off women's votes, the worse things will continue to get. And the absurdities, such as this simple picture will continue to increase. Until the whole thing implodes, or we are over run by some enemy.

Wikipedia says she was the most popular Flemish politician last year.

I have never lost my respect for a people so quickly and definitively as I have just now for the Flems. I had thought the Flems a strong, upstanding sort of people who ought govern themselves, but their devotion to this woman suggests granting the Flems freedom would be just as contrary to good sense as this woman's figure.

Some people are mixing things up here. I definitly don't approve her appointment and think it is ridiculous, but to clarify.

-The current government who appointed her is the most right wing gov in about 70 years. This is not a weak right government as claimed.
-She got popular for her strong hand in settling immigration issues, basically refusing a lot of immigrants and making policy a lot clearer and more strict. Her popularity comes from this and in general policy reviews her work is regarded as a job well done on that aspect.
-Some flemish media as well as in social media are coming down hard on this issue of her being Minister of Health, what a ridiculous move to appoint her in this in the first place, but I'm sure it was just political games between parties as it always is in Belgium.

And also @blink & Mang: You must be kidding. There is a big difference in European countries not wanting to have anything to do with wars in Africa or things in the ME and not having military capacity. Poland invading Western Europe, not a chance. I agree that in relation they spend a lot less than the US on defense, which I believe is a great thing in fact. But to think Western Europe is up for grabs because of this is non sensical, especially given the unity of these nations to fight as one if necessary.

Not surprised about Norway, Sweden, or the Netherlands. They'd be fucked anyway if they had to fight alone

But Germany? Oh Germany, what happened to you? What was once the mighty Prussia and the "Army with a country" under Frederick the Great is now this. They are fully capable of defending themselves and them some but are rather content with still having foreign troops on their soil. They are still afraid to do anything militarily because of WW2 guilt and political correctness. They dont even pierce step anymore when marching.
