I read that Sapkowski hates the games, but without the games he wouldn't get the royalties. They are now doing a big-budget Netflix series on it - and this time it's true that he can be pissed since Netflix will thoroughly rape the lore to death.

Nobody who writes a book like that is ever going to be happy with the game when it comes out.

You can't make a book like a game otherwise there'd be five combat scenes, a chunk of dialogue and that would be the end.

#1 isn't exactly combat heavy and I've already killed at least 100 drowners and even more salamander agents. If you flipped it the other way around and wrote a book like a video game it would be equally as ridiculous.

From what I've seen of the game (TW3), I think the studio did a grand job of capturing the vibe of the books (from what I've read so far). Artists will always be unhappy with others handling their baby, but Sapkowski has been very fortunate indeed with the translation from book to game.

TW3, on my first playthrough I thought 'yeah okay it's awesome...' but something felt missing. It didn't really sink its hooks into me until me second playthrough last year.

The lore and world is obviously fantastic being based on a series of dense high fantasy novels.

There isn't a single deadweight character in the game, and they all always act in a manner consistent with their personalities - the dialogue and writing is absolutely top notch.

Red Pills are peppered in but not rammed up your ass. Geralt isn't a pussy, but he's also not stoic and unlikable like, suppose, Kratos in the first God of War games.

The gameplay...if there's a weakness its the hack and slash combat, the fact that Geralt is somehow killed if he falls ten feet, the menus aren't too great and fast travel is kinda poorly implemented but I've played games with far greater issues that I still enjoyed.

Graphics, music, presentation? Elite, elite and elite.

And to top it off, the game is greatly supported by CDPR; The Complete Edition has something like 20 DLC and Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine, which both have different strengths and very few weaknesses. CDPR obviously cares about and values their fans unlike the SJW pussies at EA who ruined Battlefield and said 'if you don't think women fought in WW2 then you're a bigot and don't buy my game!'. I try whenever available to not give my money to people who hate me.

The pacing and plotting is stellar; RDR2, for all it does well, often moves at a snail's pace - it's almost unheard of for me to want to put a new game down for 3-4 days but I did with RDR2, TW3 moves at a brisk but not breakneck pace throughout.

The game is virtually error free - of course there's gonna be bugs in a 100+ hour open world game but there's nothing even close to the continual glitch fuckery of Skyrim. Apparently its as buggy as ever on the Switch...nearly a decade after its original release.

For my money the best game of the decade. If there's a game that comes close it's maybe Breath of the Wild - by far the most beautiful and compelling world I've seen and some of the best gameplay out there, but it's head and shoulders above other prestige AAA titles like Red Dead Redemption 2 and Horizon: Zero Dawn.

And yes, I know Netflix is going to insert a bunch of SJW bullshit into the show, but it'll still have a fuckton of viewers.

I will buy the shit out of Cyberpunk when it comes out - but it kind of sucks; 2018 was a banner year for gaming, but 2019 is shaping up to be rather lame.

I’ve had witcher 3 since release on ps4 but always got bored with its opening setting. Decided to try to get past that area and its actually pretty amazing.

Only question is if I should continue playing on my ps4 pro + 65” oled, or play on it maxed our on my 34” ultrawide 100hz monitor for PC.

I noticed some graphical glitches on the ps4 version..

Hilarious - no wonder that he hates the games since they make AAA-level of cash while he isn't getting any. But that doesn't surprise me since I met quite a few older Polish people - they have an immense lack of self-belief in anything Polish, because they witnessed the communism and had an immense lack of self-awareness and self-confidence. He probably thought that an upstart Polish company couldn't possibly make it big or compete with big American companies. This self-hatred is no longer valid among the below 30yo crowd since they witnessed far better circumstances and know that EE was just put in a shitty system - Eastern Germany was also crap compared to Western Germany, but the people were not dumber or less hard-working there. It's one of those things that the older generation cannot see reality for what it is.

Currently CDProjectRed can produce even better games because Western companies have to hire a diverse staff and have to have their stories destroyed by SJW writers. In addition insane globalist non-gaming CEOs just waltz around with mantras like: "micro-transaction", "service", "make it pretty" and finally "I don't care about the rest - let the Bathesda magic work on it" and "fire 300 - we made 50 mio. $ less than predicted, that will teach them a lesson." (they usually make less because of their own leadership's stupid decision, but of course that is never mentioned). Meanwhile indie companies are being led by passionate people - I mean how tough can it be to find gamers who have some basic managament/business skills. It's far easier to promote those than to hire pure business guys who would be as passionate working at EA than a company producing aluminum siding.

At least he probably gets the Netflix cash if he hasn't sold the rights for 50.000$ 10 years ago or something

I know I'm Late but the Witcher 3 is my all time favorite game. It took the place of mass effect 2, AC Black Flag kingdom hearts 2 (as a 11 year old) and the only game close is Red Dead Redemption 2. It's the only game besides Mass Effect 2 that I finished 100% (as in everything possible in the game to do)

Y'all already know I love TW3 because I took over this thread for a while as I played through it.

I just wanted to chime in to mention that I have read most of the Witcher novels off the back of it. It is sort-of true that the games tinker with the Witcher universe, but at the same time the games serve to flesh things out a lot. What they probably capture best is the way the Witcher novels are really more webworks of short stories connected together than single, straight-line stories as such (and I freely admit I liked most of the ghostkilling/wraithkilling side missions in TW3 than the main storyline ones). This works in really well with TW3's sidequest system. TW3 probably is a tad lighter in tone than the Witcher novels overall, but reading the novels is a pleasant surprise in that they don't really clash that much. In terms of how they handle the protagonist, I think you most match Geralt of the novels by choosing mostly if not entirely good-guy options at crucial moments in TW3.

And yeah, for those of you still playing through: don't skip the DLC. Hearts of Stone is fucking scary at some points, and Blood and Wine somewhere between an entire third act to the main Witcher game and an entirely new game.

I've played a few games through like 10 times. Resident evil 4, final fantasy 3, San Andreas, Planescape torment, New Vegas, and yeah, me2.

It's arguably more fun to play through a masterpiece for the 9th or 10th time than to play a game you are not all that jazzed about.
