MK games live and die on their multiplayer mode, nobody that is a fan of the series will care about the god awful story (MK X was terrible in that regard as well).

I know Mortal Kombat has been discussed here.... but we did it. We have officially hit peak video game clown world.

Johnny Cage, in preview releases and builds, would do the "circle game" in certain screens. Now he flips you off.

Remember - the "circle game" is also the white supremacist "OK" sign. So in order to avoid getting burned by SJWs, they changed the OK sign to a vulgar gesture.

How the mighty have fallen

Days Gone - obviously a Playstation exclusive, because the XBox doesn't have any of those - looks like it's come together quite well in the extra months of development time they took.
It went from a game I had little interest in to one I will almost certainly be playing this weekend.
Lots of gameplay footage up on YouTube from people who got it early. There's a review embargo until tomorrow, which is sometimes a bad sign, but Spider-Man (PS4 exclusive) had it too and was almost universally praised. I suspect Days Gone will fall a little below that but it's looking quite good.

I'm pretty pumped about it. Reminds me of Full Throttle, but with zombies and an open world. Maybe a bit of Uncharted thrown in.

I always have most fun with open world games. Even great linear games like Uncharted and The Last of Us just can't hold my attention and I never make it all the way through them, despite them usually having shorter campaigns than open world games.

There are admittedly many of those open world games I never finish either, but I can often spend dozens of hours just roaming around and having fun in the huge worlds. I recently reinstalled the underrated Ghost Recon Wildlands to do just that. I must have spent 40+ hours in the game in total and still have well more than half the story missions left.

Well, sadly the Days Gone reviews are not particularly glowing. Mostly scores in the 6-8 range. About to watch the ACG review now, which is apparently a "wait for sale". Which, knowing myself, I'm obviously not going to do if I decide I want to play the game.

The game doesn’t push some “diversity” propaganda constantly. What did you expect for reviews?

With the brief sections of reviews I've read there are certainly some - probably many - expected reviewers who can't seem to get past the fact that the protagonist is an angry, white man biker.
But even the few YouTube reviewers I tend to trust are a little lukewarm in their reviews. Though it seems to be mostly because of bugs (ACG mentions this is even after the latest huge patch) and certain design and story decisions.

I think I'll probably buy it, while hoping for quick additional bug fixes.

GameSpot 5/10 review (by a girl).
"The over-the-top libertarian character"
"Deacon also has a policy where he doesn't kill unarmed women, which does not affect the story in any way and goes completely unexamined. There's no introspection here; Deacon is selfish, and it's simply boring that the game is uncritical of him."

I'll read the Kotaku and Polygon reviews later for what I expect will be a good laugh.

After watching a few YouTube reviews I've decided to get the game, despite clearly suffering from bugs in some areas. So I'll probably be playing at midnight.

I think a lot of games that are open world, would benefit from not being open world. I load up GTA and after 5 minutes I have seemingly limitless options to go from. I just can't find the interest in that anymore. Would be nice to have more restrictions to begin with. What's wrong with having open world, but having areas shut off until it makes sense from a storyline?

Your post made me think about Tomb Raider, which I think does this really well. The second installment in particular was great. Is it linear or open world?

Metro Exodus does it too. I shelved that game (for now) just a few hours into it (I made it to the first open area, I think I read there are 3-4 large ones, plus many linear sections). That was primarily due to its clunky controls, but if it had been true open world it's certainly possible it would have hooked me - like any clunky and buggy Bethesda game - rather than move on to something else.

I guess we look for different things in game entertainment. I rarely care all that much about finishing a story line - I have probably finished less than 20 games in 30+ years - these days I usually find most enjoyment in large open combat playgrounds with beautiful landscapes that I can just roam around in and cause carnage and maybe find some new weapons or skill upgrades. Whether it's for 20 minutes or several hours at a time.
Not that I would enjoy those games as much if they were completely devoid of story and missions, but those things are secondary to the freedom of an open world with entertaining (if often repetitive) gameplay mechanics.

On the MK11 point, I'm playing through the story mode and unfortunately, it really does feel like it is a game that came out of the California Art Academy, if such a thing exists. The diversity and SJW traits shoved into the game are obvious and offputting. I can tell this was all deliberately done to stick with the California culture, which I am not about. The game has not changed much on the gameplay side, either, so I give it a 4/10.

Saw it earlier. The guy on the right does very long and thorough reviews on his own channel Skill Up, although he said this one will take a few more days.
My game is downloaded and ready to go at midnight in 40 minutes. They have released another large patch today which has hopefully taken care of some of the reported technical issues and bugs.

Bruh.....
I've only put 4 or 5 hours into this game but its the bee's knees. I bought it a few years ago when it was on sale and it just sat in my cache of games I buy on sale cause I may one day wish to play them (along with 200+ other games I bought on sale an haven't played) I've come close to starting it numerous times cause I always see reviews and comments that talk about how underrated it is. So last night I was strolling through that long list and actually stopped on Mad Max but didn't start it. Instead I started playing on my phone and ended up on Instagram and saw a story banned forum member Vinny made and it was a picture from his lovely balcony and it had the sticker of the crazy guy from the Mad Max movie saying "its a lovely day" so I took that as a sign to play Mad Max.... Thanks for that Vinny cause this game is everything those praiseful reviews an comments were saying. Great graphics even for a older game, story has twist and turns that keep you engaged, characters are interesting and well voices, the atmosphere is amazing, combat both on foot and in car feels fluid, plenty of things to do at your own pace in this beautiful open world.... this game blows most AAA titles out of the water.

Mad Max was awesome. Definitely an underrated game. It does get repetitive, but so do most open world games and as long as the game systems are entertaining I don't mind.
Never did finish it though, but that goes for nearly every game I play.

Days Gone, which I'm playing at the moment, has been compared to a mix of Mad Max and Last of Us, which I more or less agree with.
It's buggy and a little unpolished (more fixes are coming) but a very good game and in my opinion also rated too harshly by many critics (for other reasons than bugs).

Both these games are a solid 8-8.5 in my opinion.

Man MK has a lot of little SJW/Woke moments that wouldn't mean much on their own but once you put them all together its pretty obvious they are trying to appeal to Polygon, Kotaku, and soy boys everywhere

Any body remember the old Need for speed hot pursuit 2 game for the PS2. That's the best Cop vs racer game.

Is this the first game you can play as Shao khan? That guy was cheap as fuck in MK3. Might be fun to play if he says Trump quotes all the time.

Any good games for Switch or PS4 with split-screen co-op single player? I miss the glory days of playing Halo 2's campaign with a friend.
