If you had to choose one picture to represent masculinity...
What would you choose? I recently found this painting Astronomer by Candlelight by Gerrit Dou, painted around 1665.

I think it is an absolutely brilliant painting. The impression on the astronomer face, the curious concentration is the same that build civilizations through the ages.

First thing that popped into my head was the ironworkers eathing lunch on the beam that lord posted. I would say anyone of many pictures from earlier times when men were men whether its doing something hardworking as in manual labor or a gentlement dressed up

The OP pic is the best.

Masculinity as search for truth in darkness, the power to recognize objective truths and overcome subjective hamster bullshit is a very accurate picture.

Brutal animalistic power like in most other pics is only a superficial understanding of masculinity. A man is a man because he can somewhat transcend the animalistical nature that all animals and even human females are slaves of. He does so trough selfless study, knowledge and wisdom acquired from other great men.

Here is another good pic, that also shows that besides search for truth and wisdom, masculinity is also about respect and honor - great men learning from another great men:
