I saw a documentary earlier about Dignitas, a group in Switzerland that assists people with suicide. To bad you can't open something like that here. I don't see anything wrong with a business like that if the person is an adult and feels like leaving early

I thought it was required by the law to have at least one gun in a car if you drive in Texas, so you better hurry!

I tried to shoot myself one time but my cat-like reflexes instinctively made me dodge the bullet. Then I beat myself up for trying to shoot myself. And believe me, it's hard to roundhouse kick yourself in the head.

I spent a lot of time with my 4 grandparents (who lived to age 90 and beyond) and their old siblings as well and my conculsion is this:

Being really old is just fucking awful.

Your eyesight and hearing is almost gone. You have no strength to lift anything, run, bend over, walk a lot, or do anything anymore. Everything becomes a massive chore. Simple things like climbing a few stairs become impossible. Food doesn't taste like anything anymore and you can't eat even half the things you used to like eating. Your body produces strange smells. You can't remember anything except the things from 50 to 75 years ago. Your brain and body abandon you. No one apart from your kids and grandkids want to talk or be around you anymore. Self sufficiency becomes impossible.

You revert to a childlike state where you are completely dependant on others... except in this case you are not small and cute and have a nice big pair of milk filled titties to suck on every day.

I don't see any point in living past the age where your body is more of a burden than a blessing.
Does anyone here see the point in living to a really old age ?
I'm talking about age 80/85 and over.

If you can function into your 90s, can walk on your own, cook on your own, shit on your own, then sure might as well keep living, but if you are not really living, well then yeah...

Only if you can manage to stay relatively healthy in old age. I would have no problem living at a slower pace at 90+ but no nursing home for me, at that point I feel you might as well be dead.

As always, one size doednt fit all. Bernie Ecclestone (Formula 1 racing impressario) is a famous example of a man living a full life well into the later years. He's 85, worth about 4 billion USD and married a 35 year old in 2012.

There's a point where suicide is a wise option in old age, but I don't want to dwell on it.
