Part of me thinks yeah, because you'd be very out of place, but then Im also thinking that standing out is a good thing, and standing out for the right reason a better thing.

You can always dress sharp, but it takes a little more discernment. Overdress, but moderately so.

If people are wearing tank tops, rock a point collar polo. If they're wearing polos, wear a button down. If they're wearing button downs, wear a sport coat. Flip flops, driving mocs. Jersey shorts, bermuda shorts. You get the deal.

And if you were already dressed up, just roll with it. Or dress to the nines and fabricate an alibi.

Second the recommendation on Brooks Brothers Extra Slim Fits. Wearing one now, fits great if you're slim. A little tight in the chest, neck and arms for those who lift.

A vintage Lacoste cardigan in a bright color is a great look. Not for everyone though.

Gap jeans in a dark rinse are surprisingly good too.

There's no such thing as being overdressed. When you walk in a room 'overdressed' everyone else is immediately underdressed. That should be your frame.

If blatantly out of place somewhere (eg. in black tie gear at a dive bar) just come up with an excuse. If you handle it right it will never work against you.

A lot of guys on here seem to be pro the plain T-shirt style, now this might be regional, but Wal-Mart of all places is selling nice quality Hanes Ts for 4 bucks. They arent the thin shitty undershirt material either, soft, thick, and they've got at least 10 different colors. Super cheap way to throw a few new shirts into your closet for low key everyday use.

Sean John is way played out dude. Not sure about their dressing clothes but I know their urban wear is totally outdated.
I tend to wear plain tee shirts, Raybans, flip flops or moccasins sometimes even Nikes, and nice blue jeans.

I guess Zara is pretty good. I also agree with someone (khaleth, probably) that good jeans are important. Try Diesel jeans.

A trendy store with a heavy California surfer influence. This is a younger guy store. I usually buy most of my clothes here. I like the clothes here because a lot of the clothes have that subtle peacock flare that I love, and I regularly get compliments from the clothes I get here.

Nordstrom is an upscale dept. store that has some really nice clothes to choose from. It's great for younger and older guys. The clothes can clearly get pretty expensive so if that's too much then there's Nordstrom Rack - http://shop.nordstrom.com/c/nordstrom-rack - which is significantly cheaper.

And then other guys have mentioned Zara, I personally haven't bought from there but I definitely will in the future.

I've bought a lot of stuff on 6pm.com. Great deals there.

I can get away with buying certain brands online without trying them on because I'm real thin (wear a 30x30) pant and am familiar with how certain brands fit.

They have insane deals on john varvatos clothing, which is my favorite brand. If I were ballin harder with the disposable income, i'd probably wear nothing but john varvatos. I live in LA, and frankly there's almost never a reason here to wear anything other than edgy upscale casual - which is the look that he nails perfectly.

I get compliments on his stuff whenever I wear it, from men and girls old and young.

As far as jeans go, check out AG Adriano Goldschmied if you don't mind dropping 150-200 on a pair of jeans. I think they fit incredibly well and the washes, especially his dark denim are hard to beat.

And a huge +1 to the Levi's 514s. Best slim fit jean under 100 bucks there is, especially the black ones with the elastane they use to make it a super comfy fit. You can dress em down with a v neck and sneaks, or put on boots and a leather jacket and look sharp as hell. Every man should own a couple pairs IMO.


H&M and Zara are hit and miss, but when they hit they're unbeatable. If you're a slimmer guy, their suits will fit perfectly. I was in Zara the other day and they had a dark blue lambskin moto/bomber style jacket for 199 bucks. That would be 1,000 if the label said John Varvatos and the varvatos one probably wouldn't be that much cooler. I didn't buy it because I have something just as similar, but when they nail it at zara they can't really be beaten.

Vince is a great brand too. Luxury mens basics, but very nicely manufactured and wearable.
