How to learn the Russian alphabet in 15 minutes
For those of you interested. This is pretty accurate and the natives will think it is clever.

Yeah all an alternative is to write out famous footballers names, or celebrities, politicians; whatever the person is interested in. Once you get used to it, it eventually becomes easy.

The alphabet is the easy part...it's all the cases that confuse me.

Yep. It took me around a week of sporadic repetition to learn the Cyrillic alphabet before moving to Bulgaria. A year and a half later I'm still not conversational however (picking up my efforts lately).

I imagine if one knows the Greek alphabet, learning Cyrillic becomes a slight bit easier.

It's still difficult though, and I do hope to learn Russian some day; but not before I feel happy with French and Spanish.

The cases are really not that hard. I'm currently working on producing study and learning materials to make the entire process easier.

This is pretty much how I've independently arrived at teaching Cyrillic. I've actually taught this alphabet to a friend in a grand total of about 5 hours, split up over the course of one day. We started around lunchtime, and by the time the stars were twinkling in the sky, he was reading Russian without any trouble at all.

The alphabet is easy indeed. Except for some cases where the sounds change. Still, great guide! And thanks for sharing the other link as well.

Never heard "пака", only "до свидания".

There's a joke here I'm missing, isn't there?

Poka is what normal people say every day to their friends. Do svidania is just too formal, something you would say to your girl's mom or your boss. It is literally the equivalent of "see ya" and "until next time"/"goodbye".

Ok, thanks. So then "poka" corresponds with "privyet", and "do svidania" with "zdrastvuytye"?

Obviously I am not Russian, despite my username Confused

It's a common street-level, conversational way of saying "bye bye". It's usually not listed in the books.

Check out this verb map. I would keep a copy on your phone.

^ That right there is priceless. I'm a native Russian speaker and was surprised by all the verbs I had no clue about.

I skimmed for 5 min. As I expected, that would take me way longer than 15 min.

http://www.adme.ru but I am pretty sure they've aggregated it from somewhere else.
