Philippines trip for a 16yo, whose mother I will F-CLOSE
To my Philippines expert brothers of the forum.

I was hitting on a really fine Miami-Cuban woman (about a 9) 6 months ago, and at one point I DHV'd with my world travel adventures etc, when she mentioned her teenage daughters dream was to travel the world.

I never got an f-close, because logistics were off for both of us, and we stopped talking for months.

However, I get this e-mail from her today (7 months later), and I feel that I can finally f-close....with a little help form you guys since I have never been to the Philippines. So, when the daughter is away, mommie is home alone, and lonely Banana

"Hi there,

Long time no speak.

So, remember when I told you my daughter had a Filipino obsession… Well, she’s chosen a trip to the Philippines as her belated Sweet 16 gift.

Any advise on must see/do places and activities. I’m embarrassed to say I don’t know much about the country. Did all day research on Saturday to get clued in but still don’t feel 100% confident. Don’t want to miss out on any special places.

All help and suggestions are welcome as well as don’t do’s too."

So, can you guys help me type a quick agenda for a traveling 16 year old female accompanied by her friends to Philippines? I am looking for insider scoop you cannot easily get with Google as she has already done.

This trip of course, should be kept clean and danger free as much as possible.

I would say boracay definitely. It's the only place in the phils where you'll run into to many young, cute tourist females. It's a pretty small island, safe, lots of international restaurants, bars, etc. A little bit pricey there, but only by phils standards.

Any mother who allows her 16 yo daughter to travel alone to the Philippines is retarded, I hope she knows a few people overthere. Anyway, there aren't any real travel agencies I know of, in the Philippines you take a taxi, bus or ask a friend to bring you where you want. The only place that attracts international tourists is Boracay. Theres also Bohol, Malapascua and Palawan island and can be reached from Cebu by ferry boat.

Seems like you don't know SEA, overthere you go where you want to go by bus, airplane or taxi and once you arrive you'll find a few agencies or friendly people who will be willing to help. I've seen 1 tour/guide agencie during my 7 months stay overthere. I think resorts and hotels might offer tour guides on Boracay probably offer these services so she just has to book a hotel and go there and that's it.

Tommy you're talking like SE Asia is some unexplored land for tourists. There are tourist resorts EVERYWHERE in SE Asia and millions of tourists visit SE Asia every year. You think they all do it independently? Course they don't. Any travel agent in the UK will offer package deals to Asia with flights, transport, accomodation, trips etc included and I'm guessing it's exactly the same in the USA, Canada and everywhere else. There's also thousands of tour agencies on the ground everywhere in SE Asia that will organise EVERYTHING for you if you want them to.

You can easily go to SE Asia and not have to organise a single thing yourself.

@Tommy

I did not say she was traveling alone. Read my post. However, one of the friends she is traveling is the designated adult chaperone.

Regardless, I was not looking for criticism to her mom. Whatever her reasons for doing it. She's a potential bang! Which is the only prize I care about when all is said and done.

@Gringo: there really aren't many tourists in the Philippines as compared to Thailand or Vietnam.

It's still a pretty popular tourist destination, any travel agent can organise a trip there and there are plenty of tour agencies on the ground to organise things also.

@gringo are these agencies reputable? In other words, no scams she should be particularly aware of?

Palawan is cheap and supposedly the last virgin untouched area of The Philippines, it also has that huge underground river and other eco-tour type of things going on. Mango Tours is a well-known agency for The Philippines.

Mixx,

Sounds like she's already got some kind of itinerary if she has a chaperone. Seems to me this was just an excuse for her mom to reconnect with you. You could probably say anything and be fine.

I can't vouch for the tour agencies, I'm sure some are rogue and will scam and rip you off but once she's there she can ask other travellers or the hotel staff to get an idea. Personally I wouldn't worry about it, this is her mothers problem not yours.
