I'm still too low level to join but that's OK.

In case you were unaware, you can find gems in the stones, trees, and mushrooms that you remove from your map. There is also an achievement that will net you some more gems for removing things.

If you spent gems in the beginning of the game because you listened to that sexy redheaded slut, you can get some of them back

I've been playing this for about a week. Level 4 townhall with 162 trophies I believe. My clan castle is up. However I'm not sure if I can join multiple clans or not. A local friend of mine is in a clan, and he has been playing for 2 years! He has all of these dragons and metal walls and everything is walled off very impressive layout.

I don't know how to break this to you, so I'll just be blunt. Your friend is infinitely lamer than us.

RE: Clash of Clans
This is just a PSA for members of the clan, to address something I've observed for awhile but that isn't that easy to discuss in the game chat.

What I see a lot of is war attacks that are overly complicated but which don't seem to use any kind of specific strategy, and the result of that sort of attack is lots of dropped stars. Lots of 1 or 2 star attacks that should be 100% based on the strength of the attacker.

Obviously I don't expect everyone to 3 star everything all the time, because sometimes attacks just go south. I've certainly had my share of 90%+ one star attacks that made me want to chuck my phone against the wall and similar. But I think a lot of you guys aren't setting yourselves up to succeed as well as you could.

The kind of unfocused attack I'm talking about is the sort where you have giants and archers and dragons and hogs and all kinds of different things all mixed up, and the troops just don't work that well in concert so many of them are wasted. What it amounts to is crippling your army's strength by not using complementary troops.

What I suggest is picking a few simple, strong strategies and sticking to those, picking the best one for whatever base you're attacking. Once you decide on your basic strategy for a given attack, figure out how best to draw the clan castle troops out and how to kill them with minimal damage to your own army. From there, plan the rest of your attack to maximize your damage.

*******************************************

A good attack strategy should be simple so you don't have to time everything perfectly for it to work, and durable so if things don't work out perfectly the attack won't come to a screeching halt.

At TH7, you're best off sticking with mass dragons in my opinion. I mean at least 9 dragons and preferably 11, including one in your castle. I like to use 2 rage spells and 1 healing spell, but if you're attacking another TH7 3 lighting spells to kill an air defense is also good. Or you can just use 3 rage spells. You want to position your dragons so they can punch in to kill the air defense as soon as possible, and try to avoid attack lines where they will get hung up attacking high hit point buildings like gold/elixir storages in range of an air defense.

Giant healer is also viable against TH7, but you have to be careful not to run out of time. If you're doing giant healer, always bring something like 10-15 goblins to run around and quickly destroy buildings. Goblins are great with giant healer because they're very fast, they do a lot of damage, and they do 2x damage against resource buildings that the giants ignored on the way in. Just wait to deploy the goblins until the defenses are pretty much gone. Healing spells work well to keep your giants alive until you can kill the air defenses and deploy your healers.

At TH8 more viable strategies open up. In no particular order:

GoWiPe - Golems, wizards, pekkas, and wall breakers. I use 2 golems, 2 pekkas, 17 wizards, and 11 wall breakers plus normally wizards in my castle. A pekka in the castle is also good too. I usually drop a few wall breakers to punch a hole in a wall within range of the enemy castle to draw the troops out, then lure them to where I can kill them with wizards. Drop golems as tanks, wizards to do the real killing, and pekkas to wander around smashing shit. Drop wall breakers as needed to open up a path into the base. This is much better understood by watching youtube videos, but it's my current go-to tactic.

GiWiPe - Pretty much like GoWiPe but you use giants instead of golems. You'll want level 5 giants for this.

Mass dragons are still good, nothing changed from TH7 except don't even bother using 3 lightning to kill an AD if the enemy has 3 air defenses. You're better off using 3x rage or 2x rage and a healing spell. I can not emphasize enough how much you want to use at least 9 dragons.

Balloonion - Level 5 balloons and level 3+ minions with rage spells. It's a tactic I haven't used myself but it's valid at TH8. See youtube for details, or maybe one of our balloonioners will say something about it.

Mass hogs - you'll want level 3+ hogs, and you need to be mindful of giant bomb placement. Spell use is tricky because hogs move so fast but it's a good idea to drop healing spells where you believe giant bombs to be so if the hogs are hit they will be healed quickly. It's good to back up hogs with something else to kill the clan castle troops since hogs are not ideal for that purpose. Draw the troops with one hog and kill them with wizards or archers away from the base.

****************************

The key similarity between all of these strategies is they stick to just a few complementary troops. That makes deployment relatively simple and reduces the potential for error while not wasting space in your army with troops that will just get smeared by an unlucky mortar round.

Now, I'm not saying you need to rigidly adhere to a given strategy. But if you deviate from the well-balanced army that strategy calls for, you should have a specific, articulable reason. Like in mass dragons sometimes it's good to bring some balloons because they target defenses first, and if an air defense is in the right spot they can zip in and kill it while it is concentrating on a dragon. That's rare, however, and the vast majority of the time you're best off just sticking with the strategy.

I ended up writing a hell of a lot more than I meant to, but just one more thing:

Clan castle troops. They should be one of your top considerations when planning an attack. Forgetting to draw them out is a great way to royally fuck up your attack, depending on your strategy, because a few high level wizards can completely ruin your attack in seconds if conditions are right. I know we all know that, but we all also forget sometimes, and it's hard to overstate how important it is to consider the castle troops. I still forget occasionally, and when I do it completely fucks me over.

*********************************

Anyway, I'm not trying to single anyone out. I've just observed a lot of unfocused, overly complicated attacks pretty much since most of the clan hit TH7, and I know it can be pretty damn frustrating when attacks not only don't 3 star but fizzle out completely. I want our clan to have fun, and I know it's more fun when our attacks all go well and we win wars, so hopefully this is helpful.

If anyone has specific attack advice I didn't cover, or disagrees with my advice, cool, I'm happy to hear other perspectives.

How come the TH 8 players don't have 8 elixir pumps and 8 gold mines? Does it make your town to much of a target?

You get an extra pump and mine at TH10. You want to max out whatever available things and the number of things you can have at each level.

RE: Clash of Clans
I'm currently sticking to not upgrading my TH until I've maxxed out absolutely everything (especially defenses) available at its level. I don't know if that's a good choice though, as the people who attack me are not assigned to me by relative player levels or TH levels, but trophies.

I don't think you can crush enemies with the clan until your TH 8 or above. Right now I just donate troops which are relatively low level, but high for me. It takes longer and longer to upgrade your defense each th upgrade.

Good advice!

I would also add - watch replays.

If you want to become capable of launching three star attacks, watch a replay of someone else's three star attack.

Watch replays any time your base gets owned on defense and figure out how to strengthen it.

I know that clan castle troops can fight in defense over and over, but if I unleash the clan castle troops during an attack, are they gone afterwards just like the other troops? What if I use them to attack but they're killed during the attack?

Yeah in my message I said 'rvf'er here, is this poosy paradise?', I thought there might be some entry level requirements as I'm only TH4...anyway I'll try again and quote my RVF handle.

On a side note, any tips on what order/preference for upgrades? I heard laboratory is the most important, followed by storages, mine/pumps and camps...

Also how does trophy count affect which camps I find for attacks? I 'next' endlessly through very high level camps and blow gold...I hear some strategy where guys puposefully lower their trophy counts for this reason, is this correct?

Also I wish I knew how to play this game before blowing all my gems in the first hour of gameplay, listening to that fat cunt in the starter tutorial was a big mistake, now I'm grinding endlessly to get to 500 gems...oh well

HCE if you deploy castle troops in a raid or war attack they are all gone.

For anyone just starting, use search terms coc plus whatever type of troop or building or strategy you want to know about brings up a lot of detailed information.

I guess just crank through the achievements to stack gems. Get to the third and fourth builder as quickly as possible.

You will get awarded a lot of gems by hitting a 1250 trophy count. You can possibly get there before you're really ready in army strength. Do this by attacking only villages that have their TH exposed for the easy one star win.

Once you join the clan, we can keep you stocked with some ass kicking troops in clan castle to help you push to 1250.
