Emirates; fantastic planes, more comfy economy, and smoking hot stewardesses. I'm also a big fan of KLM (partly because it goes straight to AMS) and Lufthansa.

Low cost: FlyDubai - cheap, decently comfortable and pretty good-looking stewardesses.

Pegasus is probably the worst in terms of comfort but they have some really good prices and are pretty reliable so I have no problem flying with them.

I avoid any US-based airlines whenever possible; the experience is sub-par compared to Gulf Arab and European airlines. The staff is usually made up of middle-aged uptight she-men who have no idea what hospitality is about.

I just had a shitty experience with TAME Ecuador. They are a piece of shit.

I booked a flight to Galapagos on their website in January and flew there mid-February for a couple weeks. It's a great place and you should check it out.

20 hours before leaving Galapagos to go back home I get an e-mail that the flight is cancelled and rescheduled one day later.

The next day, when I got to the airport they refused to check me in unless I paid $100 because they said I fraudulently represented myself as an Ecuadorian citizen when I booked the flight back in January in order to get a lower airfare.

Completely untrue, but they had me by the balls and I paid, but I disputed the charge with my credit card and got the money back.

Stay away from TAME Ecuador!!

Its easy to hate all the low budget airlines. That being said if your flying on the cheap you get what you pay for. So no reason to hate them (then rebook).

Though personal favorite are some of the foreign carriers. Such as Interjet and Qatar Airways.

I was recently on Alaska and thought I had thrown my phone charger away accidentally. I asked the flight attendant if she could look for it. She did. Then I found it on my own anyway. I apologized. After this experience, Alaska definitely goes on my list of good airlines.

I like JetBlue, Southwest, Alaska, and Frontier.

I hate American.

I'm okay with United, Delta, LATAM Perú, Interjet, and Aeromar.

I sort of hate AeroMexico, but will give them another chance.

i fly swiss for 90% of my european flights. the perks with miles and more are lounges and sometimes upgrades. swiss is punctual like their watches.
i fly delta when i go to the states (as they are one hop away). no issues with them even though the hostesses are old and big, they are very friendly.
i flew tap a few times, and its true...porra girls are hot!

Domestic US - Alaska/Jet Blue/Virgin are the best by far. Alaska recently bought Virgin and it and Jet Blue are basically mirror images of one another--both fly cross country and have some limited international flights (mostly to Mexico/the Caribbean) but Alaska doesn't have any routes within the eastern half of the country nor does JB within the western half. Of the major carriers, Delta and American usually beat United and Southwest (everyone loves SW but I can't stand it, maybe if I flew it more than once every 2-3 years I'd have high enough priority to avoid getting stuck in a middle seat every time I'm on it).

International - Singapore, JAL, Cathay Pacific in that order. Air Asia is pretty great too for what it is (the spicy Thai chicken dish they have is the best meal I've ever had on an airplane, including Singapore business class). Don't have any recent experience with the European carriers and I won't give my money to the Gulf carriers unless I absolutely have to (so far never had to).

I really don't like Delta. They have too air crafts that should have been retired by now. Complete with tube TVs.
Passengers often suffer severe engine noise and cabin pressure issues on Delta.

Jet Blue is generally nice, and have good deals quite often.
I've flown on most US airlines, but nothing noteworthy for the most part.

For anyone considering a recon mission to Ethiopia without fully committing to it, I'd recommend Ethiopian Airlines for an international trip.

This way, you can have a layover in Addis Ababa and explore the city for a day. I have done this twice.
They have 23-hour layover options, so you can spend nearly a full day in the city, at almost zero cost to you.
They're perhaps one of the only low-cost airlines that offer hotel and meal vouchers for all layovers over eight hours.

So, you arrive Addis Ababa at 8 pm for instance, they give you a hotel voucher, and direct you to their provided hotel shuttle bus.
You get free meals at the hotel. If your next flight is at 3:30 pm the next day (like mine was), then all meals are included. Dinner, breakfast and lunch.
Next day, the shuttle bus picks you from the hotel back to the airport.

Hit the city, and if you know what you're doing, you might even get you a nice Habesha girl to come enjoy your free lodging with you.

I really hate Ukraine International Air between JFK and KBP (Kiev). Old 767s that are really crowded. Gate agents that excel at "service with a snarl". A waiting area (Gate 12) that is far too small for the number of people on the flight, has terrible air conditioning and the passengers waiting were obnoxious. The flight attendants were obnoxious, the food was absolutely the worst I have ever had on a plane and it was painfully cramped. Never again.

I will say that the 737-800s they fly in Europe are in decent shape and I would be willing to fly on one of them again.

The worst is the low class uneducated rude passengers (a good reflection of Ukraine's population).

Last time I took it, I had a fight with a few aggressive drunk guys and there was absolutely no security in the plane. Only female useless air hostesses who didn't give a shit.

So flew Wizzair again and honestly it might have been worse than last time.

Paid extra for the "VIP" package mostly because I needed the extra luggage and it worked out to like $5 to pick your seat, get priority boarding and have them check you in so was a whatever decision... the problem of course being what they deem "priority", I thought it meant what it means but apparently all it means is you get to go and stand on the bus longer than anyone else, which has a priority section that they pack as full as the rest of the bus and then is the last section they let off the bus effectively meaning that you're the last person to actually board the plane.

Was fuming as genuinely have paid extra for a service that ends up being the complete opposite.

Also have to throw in Viva and Wingo from Colombia as both take the budget airline and go to extremes. I did online check in but they require you to actually print your online boarding pass out for them or they try and fine you for not doing it which is just rubbish. They also have no baggage drop off or online check-in service so you have to do their job for them only for them to then do the job again and make you stand in the absurd lines, luckily I was there for the Viva flight 5 hours early because I was only connecting but it took 3.5 hours in the line for them to check in ONE flight. That they want to charge you after you've done their job for them for not wanting to kill a tree really rustled my jimmies.

On a positive for both airlines, they don't like being confronted on their BS so if you cause enough of a shitstorm they eventually become a reasonable business, Wingo went and printed my ticket for me because they literally can't work from a phone (da fuck) and Viva just gave up on trying to charge me extra on everything and just processed it and said they'd get me at the plane but I backed in that they weren't competent enough to actually send that message and was right.

Will say that TUI were actually quite good which was nice as my expectations were super low on that one and they were legitimately good instead.

Recent new airlines for me:

Aeromexico - I really liked the flight, cabin of their fleet is sleek, great legroom, food is outstanding, fresh papaya and melons for breakfast. The customers are all stuck up Mexicans though. Downside is you have to pay for luggage but it's only around $20 per luggage.

Norwegian: Amazing prices from Europe to USA, dreamliner has the best cabin, good service but you have to pay for blankets and pillows, only £5 or something but still.

Thomas Cook: Not bad service and comfort but entertainment sucks, maybe 5 movies available. The crowd is terrible especially if you fly from Orlando, all chav brits on board.

Jetblue: For a budget American airline I expected much worse, instead everything was great for the price. Legroom is good and so is service but the stewardesses were so fat they bumped into my shoulder every time.

That is a growing pet peeve of mine on U.S. airlines. I always sit on an aisle seat because I like to get up and stretch. All these oversize stewardesses with wide hips smash into everyone as they walk down the aisle. It is absolutely absurd that airlines hire people with this body type to walk down narrow aisles. You are are great at complaining, but when it comes to real logic and math, you guys love sitting on the bench and drinking your tea. Trust me, I know, I lived in the EU for many years.

I personally have experience in the financials of the flying industry and I laugh when I read about posts like yours (I'm American). I would love for you to break down for me what you have about flying specifically. Be real specific. I will respond with specifics too. The problem is that all you travelers think you have all your shit figured out when you really don't know anything about oil costs, flight costs, etc.

I can appreciate aspects of Crash Bandicoot's perspective & your perspective lol. I totally stand by Crash's viewpoint, but to your credit, there was a supposed heyday / glamorous era of air travel a few decades ago. Times where the hostesses were hot & you were escorted to the jet via a red carpet lol. But certain things are drastically better now than those old times (important things such as safety). As a business guy myself, I understand that it all comes down to the bottom line in the end (while maintaining safety & efficiency).

Singapore Airlines for the win. Curious to see if there are any haters. Second place goes to A380s with 2 seat economy on the upper deck window seats and big storage bins. Certain rows give 2 bins.

Avianca customer service sucks. Asiania is a flying pizza oven. BA business class doesn’t impress much. I’m always in a geopolitical war with a Slav of my same large build for the armrest on Aeroflot. Never fails.

Will be testing a few others in this next year. Premium economy Singapore and American to/from Asia. Norwegian, LOT and WOW economy.
