On the CNN video, one of the instructor's said that their criteria for instruction is 8 years old but that they teach children as young as 5 years old on 22 rifles. It's a tragedy this doesn't happen more often.

I would love to get the chance to hold an Uzi, let alone fire one. You'll get locked away forever for just thinking about guns here in England.

This is an absurd story though…what was the instructor thinking? Unbelievable.

My father and his friends used to play "war" with air rifles when he was a kid in the 40's here though. He shot someone in the head (with no permanent damage…lucky it missed eyes etc.) and still talks about it today nearly 70 years later…that girl is gonna be all kinds of messed up.

First of all I'd like to know why the forum is promoting a young girl to operate a masculine protection device? Secondly, why this young lady isn't at home playing with a cooking set or some barbie dolls. If you want to teach boys and girls how to aim guns accurately, buy them a laser tag set or take them out to paintball.

Its more natural for a woman to practice using pepper spray seeing as she's going to end up spending all her time in front of a mirror anyway. It ain't illegal to walk the streets with a hair spray can and a lighter either.

My 8 year old is damn good with her cricket and p22. And knows Coopers Laws which is more than I can say for a lot of the Lilly livered keyboard commandos I come across on the 'Net.

Yeah cause an 8 year old girl really needs to know how to use a gun right? Guns and gun training is generally an American past time, you gun nuts don't even realize you are creating the hell that you live in. Way to go there, that is some serious parenting dad. Don't teach her to cook, clean or be a care taker, teach her how to kill her problems away with a gun... nice work.

how many instructors/employees you think will refuse a client, just because of
maybe he can "foresee" that things could go really wrong

the mother of the little girl has full responsibility for this,
and should be prosecuted

I'm not American, but I didn't learn to shoot a shotgun until I was 14. Before then it was all air rifles and bows. Children should be using air rifles to learn the principles of shooting, it's much less dangerous.

Could this possibly be another scare-people-shitless hoax? I can't fathom a situation where an instructor would do such a thing, let alone having a traumatized mother release the video in to the wild. Does anyone out there have some info on the range or the instructor (I mean real info, not just repeated words and phrases from TV)?

The instructor has some negligence here. First of all, it's his job to ascertain whether a person is physically fit to use a firearm. A 9-year-old should not be firing anything fully automatic. I can see loading a single round into a gun and allowing a kid to fire (assuming reasonable caliber) but I've seen a 23-year-old woman drop a .45 pistol after shooting it the first time. Luckily, I was less of a dumbass than the instructor, and since it was her first time firing the gun I only put a single round in the magazine.

Even if he was negligent enough to arm a 9-year-old with a fully automatic weapon, he should have at least had enough intelligence to be outside of any danger (read: behind the girl with his arms around her ready to grab the gun if she fucked up). Instead, he stood to the side of the girl so whoever was taking this video could get a good shot. As a firearm instructor it is HIS responsibility to protect himself and his customers, and this girl's parents should not be held responsible for his death.

That said, I do believe the parents should have their child taken away for negligence.

I'm wondering why the hell you would give a 9-year-old an Uzi. A FUCKING UZI. I get that Ingram kicks ass but why the hell would you put such a weapon in a kid's hand?

I had coffee with a US Army Colonel about a year ago and he regaled me with a tale of how his wife essentially held a loaded weapon to her head while she fixed her hearing protection. Both he and I essentially classified his wife as "too stupid to live".

Honestly, you'd generally start someone who has no experience (regardless of age) with a .22LR weapon so they can get used to the kinetic motion of firing the weapon without having a lot of recoil come into play. Who the hell started this kid off with an Uzi?

In my opinion, the RSO (if not the same person as the instructor) should have been watching and making sure such a weapon wasn't pointed directly at him; if it was and he noticed it, it should have been confiscated IMMEDIATELY.
