The annual report, based on official birth registrations, shows British tastes appear to be going decidedly more upmarket with names such as Oscar, Hugo and Theodore surging up the rankings for boys.

Meanwhile a revival of traditional girl’s names continues apace with Elsie, Ivy and Violet increasingly fashionable while Britney and Chardonnay have almost disappeared.

The annual table, which is viewed as a barometer of social changes as much as fashion, shows the increasing popularity of Muslim names.
If the three most popular spellings for Mohammed are combined they would easily eclipse Oliver as the most popular boy’s name overall.

When the findings are divided by region Mohammed also emerges as the most popular boy’s name in the West Midlands while in London Muhammad was in the top spot.

Similarly Ibrahim, entered the top 100 boy’s names, for the first time, ranked 89th overall, jumping 18 places in a single year and 43 places in the last decade

No I mean UK, that is just for one spelling of Mohammed- with an o and excluding Muhammad and Muhammed, etc

Muhammad is one of the most greatest names.
It is not really pedestalizing if you name him Muhammad. There are a lot of Muhammad in muslim world, actually a lot here in Senegal. No one privilegiates his son because of that, partly because there are a lot of Muhammad already out there.

And naming your son Muhammad is not directly correlated to your assimilation into British society. Moshe, Jesus are not British names, yet when someone names their son like that no one says they are not assimilated. Or Jean Baptiste. Or Zacharie. Or Jonas. Muhammad is an arab name, and there is no romanized/europeanized/westernized version of it.
Or would you have preferred Mahomet? Mahomet, which is an incorrect version of the word.

I can also guarantee you that in France a lot of Mohammed, Yusuf, Amine, Ali etc may have Arab names, but behave like other "francais de souche" . In terms of shopping, TV programs, studies, view on society, friends, etc. They were born in France, and think of themselves as French.

Title is misleading. The Mohammeds of the future will be at the economic bottom most of the time. While the number of Muslims will increase in the UK as well, they will only have some sway in certain regions similar to Turkish areas in Germany. Besides - you should not forget that roughly 2-4 million Eastern Europeans have entered the UK in the last years. They are fertile and they are breeding a batch of blonde white babies that the UK Daygamers can pounce upon in some 15+ years.
Those white Eastern Europeans actually were the greater number of immigrants in recent times. The reason why you do not see them as much is because they spread out around the country better looking for work wherever it was to be found. It also shows that those parents have little common sense naming their kid Mohammed or Ibrahim - similar to blacks calling their kids Jamal. In some cases High IQ Mohammed or Jamal needs to consider a name-change in order to be able to rise better in the corporate world.

I'm inherently relaxed about most immigration to the UK; the Muslim population, however, just refuses to integrate, despite opinions to the contrary.

What this means for the future is hard to predict but based on places that have lots of Muslims the effect on local women is normally greater conservativism and more protective behaviour from the non -Muslim men

I find it hard to believe you are so oblivious you can't understand why anyone would have an issue with this.

In case you really are that oblivious, I'll spell it out for you clearly: Europeans don't want to see their countries Islamicized.

If you can provide some moral and logical rationale for why England should within a hundred years become an Islamic Sharia state, then by all means present your case. Of course, you would then be forced to use the same rationale to defend a hypothetical European/American project to flood African and the Middle East with white Christians in order to outbreed and gradually displace the natives.

I don't know why some people are giving the OP a hard time....it's an alarming statistic, which warrants discussion. A statistic that highlights the rapid pace of change in the past 15 years alone.

Although I'm sure we've had said discussion a thousand times on here already! As evidenced with the Birmingham 'trojan horse' plot...the UK (especially England) will either balkanize or maybe slow secularization will happen. Although on current trends, the latter seems highly unlikely.

Before Mikado has a pop, it's not necessarily a Muslim thing in Britain, but a Pakistani thing. Who, happen to be Muslim, and the majority from tribal villages in rural Pakistan (or descended from) and as such carry very alien practices with them. Honour killings for example.

However, in other Euro countries it isn't Pakistanis, but Muslims from other countries who don't integrate...take from that what you will. Although, Pakistanis have integrated worse than say, Turks in Germany. By a considerable margin.

Edit: As you can probably, tell it's a class thing also, most definitely. The more middle class, the more secular they become.

This whole thing is overhyped. I was born and raised in UK and I went to school with a lot of guys with Mohammad in their name.

Mohamed (however you spell it) is probably used to denote that the baby is a Muslim. The guys with the name Mohammad aren’t even referred to as Mohammad most of the time. Muslim kids tend to have other names too.. E.g. Mohammad Yusuf Khan would be called Yusuf. Mohammad Iqbal Javid would be called Iqbal, or even Javid.

Now imagine every white kid born in UK had the name John. Then the name John would be way more popular than any other!

In the US I seem to come across a lot of Davids and Jennifers! I remember going out with 3 different Jeniffers three days in row in LA. I came across a lot of Karens in UK.

In Los Angeles if you go into almost any restaurant, be it Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Indian, Italian, American food etc..the guy cooking the food will probably be Mexican. In the UK Polish are known for the same thing.

Regarding the Jamal name – many black Americans may or may have Muslim ancestors and they’re trying to get back in touch with their African roots. Until the last 50 years most black Americans had more American sounding names. Nowadays many black Americans wants to be more “African.

The Muslims who come to the UK and call their kids Mohammed and Ibrahim do so because that is part of the culture they come from. They’re not trying to make up names to sound more “African”.

It is not important where you are starting from - if you work and the second generation has a meaningful higher education then you rise socially. That is why Asians in the US as well as Eastern Europeans in the UK do better - also African Christian blacks in the EU. Dated one such Nigerian girl recently - she was hot and had an IQ of 120+ - in addition her entire family was quite similar. Going out with her was only marginally different than going out with a white girl despite her being in the EU just 6 years (26 YRO).

I know where this African heritage romanticism is coming from. I once saw a black university professor on TV who studied that very topic extensively - he recommended parents to refrain from naming their kids that way. Even with higher education - when it comes to assessing CVs - this is just a big disadvantage. The only guys who can afford doing that are from well connected families like Barack Obama. The same goes for Eastern Europeans giving their kids extremely slavic names - it is just counterproductive in most cases.

Just a sign of the fall of Europe.

Slowly but surely white Europeans will be demographically displaced in countries that have fully embraced multiculturalism i.e. the UK, Sweden, France. Unless they do something, Europe will slowly begin to look less like Europe and more like the Middle East.

There will be ethnic conflict on the European continent within the next 100 years... just this time Europeans will be united together in purging the Islamists from their homelands in Europe.

I notice this is a european problem.

You don't see much of this in the US also if people do claim usually it's some kook screaming it, fox news for example.

I know plenty of kids out here named Mohammad yet we call em' Moe or they go by an American name.

For example....My parents gave me a (Pakistani) islamic name (i'm not religious in the slightest)....yet i have a very American English name (it was easier to legally change to it when I was 18 but was used throughout my childhood). Pretty much an Oreo and alot of us are.

I haven't seen any "sharia" or "Islamicization" going on here most are pretty American and liberal compared to their home country/european counterparts.
