I saw some before/after pictures of guys that train their necks (and traps) and the difference was astounding, specially with clothes on. Not any benefit for the main lifts that I know off, but apparently it helps with contact sports and just in case that you would get some hit to head. To be honest I do it just for purely aesthetic reasons.
Here's a vid explaining a bit

Also Alexander Leonidas has tons of videos detailing how to train the neck.

^

I'm fucking convinced. I'll be working in sets starting tomorrow. Thanks for the tip!

I train my neck twice a week and have noticed a difference. I mostly do it for cosmetic purposes.

So this effing friend of mine is always saying to me he wants to lose weight. He doesnt commit to a workout or diet routine. Hes about to get an arranged marriage but girls keep rejecting him cause he is chubby.

I told him to do a mild keto diet this week for only 1 week to see what kind of effects it would have on him.

This mofo couldnt even get through day 1 hahaha. I told him to not complain to me ever again about his weight since he couldnt even follow the diet for 7 days.

There are some diabetics who won't take their insulin. People with COPD who smoke.

Some people are destined for mediocrity, its just who they are and you can't change it. They are the bottom 80%.

I know plenty of people like this. Most people are like this. As Steelex eloquently states - they are destined for mediocrity.

You friend would like to change, but he doesn't actually want to. He doesn't have enough of an actual desire to change to do anything about it. He wants a fast and low-effort fix for his problem(s).

He's a dead ringer to be another quiet cog in the wheel.

Back to the gym after 5 weeks of vacationing and taking a wisdom tooth out, feel like a sack of potatoes. One good thing is that all the minor aches and pain that I had just disappeared after taking a break.

Some people become addicted to things very easily. This friend of mine cant control his binge eating habits, binge drinking habits, and gambling.

I told him : Dont ever do cocaine cause with your addictive psychology, you will be done.

Hes 22 years old.
Steelex 路 2017-08-30 18:11:00 路 #3619
For the longest time I couldn't decide if a weak mind creates addiction or if addiction weakens the mind.

I've decided that both are true.
realologist 路 2017-08-30 18:26:00 路 #3620
Most addicts have very weak minds and a whole host of issues that they are unwilling to shine the light on.

It's real common for addicts to feel bad for fucking up and giving in to their addictions so they turn to their vice to relieve their stress about the fact they have an addiction.

For example:

A heroin addict uses heroin and feels like a fuck up and is stressed out so they use heroin to relieve the stress from them being a heroin addict. Fucked up cycle but it illustrates how weak mentally many addicts are.

Same thing happens for people addicted to anything including junk food.

Starting doing a 5x5 Hex bar deadlifts three times a week. I did 240lb which obviously is not much but it is only my third day doing them. I'm using the higher handles right now and I plan on adding 10lbs per day until I fail. I haven't even felt it in my legs yet, it feels so insignificant for them but I am getting some DOMS in my upper body so at least it feels like I'm doing something.

Once I get to 3 plates I'll drop the weight a bit and go switch to the lower handles and work up to 4 plates 5x5.

I've been neglecting dedicated core exercises so I'm going to start that up again soon.

Finishing off a workout using the pull up assist machine feels pretty good, once I'm really fatigued and my upper body is done I can't bust out any pull ups without it.

Not wanting to change enough is the problem yeah, but another way of looking at it is that it's being comfortable in one's current position that's the problem. You have to hate mediocrity and where you are so much that you'll do anything to change and reach the top. Success takes an extreme mindset.

I finally hit unassisted pull-ups for 8 reps since my surgery. Its hasn't be a quick recovery but my shoulders feel much better, glad I had the surgery done. Not sure if I will do the other unless it gets really bad. I had to slowly use weight assisted weights for chin ups to build strength and make sure my joint were not getting worse. Also doing front goblet squats with 60 lbs seems to be a decent workout, and doesn't kill my knees. Will probably have to start using the bar soon for the front squat since the dumbbell is awkward to hold.

Posture has gotten really good, since I do a lot of rows, spinal stability exercises and not huge on chest work like before. I tend to not hunch my back anymore. Just need to work on the forward head tilt a bit.

Hit three different PR singles this week:
60Kg overhead press
140Kg squat
90Kg bench

All felt pretty strong, really pleased with the OHP. It's such a hard one to get movement on.
Sidney Crosby 路 2017-09-08 00:31:00 路 #3626
First time doing OHP today, need to work on my form a bit but the stronglifts page should help me work it out. I've been doing a lot of cable raises for my shoulders so I should switch it up a bit.

60 kg vs 260 kg....

Size is everything. Too bad im on the side of the 60 kg guy

I've shifted to a lot of single leg moves instead of heavy squats. My legs have blown up and the bigger deal, my back feels a lot better. I don't have to dedicate 15-20 minutes to decompress it after a squat workout to make it feel that way too.

It counts for a lot less when there is no referee. You wouldn't want to have a fair fight with a WSM competitor, or anyone with 50lbs+ of muscle on you, for sure. That said, if there's no rules, and only one of you is going home more or less intact, then the effective deployment of a force multiplier can be a great equaliser. Even very large people typically have the skulls similarly as thick as yours, and bones exposed that are still susceptible to strikes from blunt objects.

Skill and conditioning, and outright aggression are significantly more important than size/strength in real combat (though size and strength are still desirable). If you find yourself in a fair fight with a guy that much bigger than you then you have made a lot of bad choices leading up to that point, and will have ample opportunity to reflect on them from your hospital bed.
sonoran_ 路 2017-09-11 23:43:00 路 #3632
Then it just turns into a David vs Goliath scenario. The small guy must find that hidden weakness of the giant and exploit it very efficiently.
If he can't, all the big guy has to do is make a little contact with him (touch, push, grab, hold etc.) And it's basically over.

Reminds me of WWE when I used to watch as a kid. It's like a big Show vs Rey Mysterio match up lol.
